Kai Raposo.
19 when the main antagonist becomes a major threat.
Male.
Supporting main character, sidekick of the main protagonist.
Hazel
None, except for a little itchy stubble he had before he came to Eengloh.
Changes very frequently. Always very long, frequently embellished in some way, with beads, braids, feathers, you name it. He is drawing attention to his hair (this is actually a part of Eengloh’s culture, as failed magic gives off sparks that burn away hair, making long hair the mark of a powerful mage, but Kai takes it to an unusual extreme).
Red.
5’8”
That hair. It’s pretty distinctive, if inconsistent.
Above average, but not in an unhealthy way.
Fairly muscular, but the muscles have faded somewhat since he came to Eengloh. Skinny, dangerously so when he first came to Eengloh, but now only slightly skinny.
Faded tan (would be called Caucasian/white in our world)
Fire magic
Public speaking
Social interactions in general, but especially romantic ones
Flirting
Dancing
Uses broad hand gestures when he speaks, paces when thinking. Taps his foot when nervous, bites his gums when bored.
He wants to protect those who cannot protect themselves.
Prone to compulsive lying about little things, as well as exaggerating/stretching the truth.
Doesn’t trust others easily
Can be manipulative without necessarily realizing
Goes all or nothing with most things. He’s the kind of character who would have that jarring scene where they keep going at an antagonist even after they’re long dead, until another protagonist had to tearfully ask them to stop, and then they both struggle with internal turmoil for the rest of the season, book, etc.
Prejudiced against mostly everyone, especially the rich, authority, government, basically most well-established powerful people. He does have a soft spot for underdogs though, even more so than most people naturally do, and despite him usually not trusting easily, he quickly bonds with and trusts anyone obviously vulnerable.
Ballroom dancing. Dating. Cooking (he considers himself a foodie and a chef, but notice that cooking is not on the talents list. That is very intentional).
ESFP. Ravenclaw primary, gryffindor secondary. Dauntless. Overall, he can best be described as an actor. Charismatic, unafraid of lying, and clever.
Not yet established.
He was abandoned by his large, low class family due to his unusual hair color (which superstition says means he’s descended from the volcano goddess, has an enormous temper, and lava magic that will destroy all of them, which is only a little true). Growing up on the streets of Seredial, using his fire magic and pretty much whatever else it took to survive, he grew jaded and cynical very early in his life. Eventually, Aeron found him and brought him to Eengloh (against Kai’s will at first), where he met Addy and Rowana, and learned more advanced fire magic (unlike the girls, he could control his pretty well, out of necessity). Eventually, all three became members of the mage council, and Kai continued to work in politics for most of the rest of his life.
Educated in Eengloh on magic. Self educated in literature and history (he finds math too dry), his understanding of science (particularly ecology) comes from Theodore.
He has none, and he’s quite happy about it.
Roasted pulled pork wrapped in laulau leaves.
Lizard
Gunpowder, combined with his fire magic.
Glass beads he helped Theodore (kinda illegally) recover from an unexplored archaeological sight (this illegal archaeology is kind of how they bond, it’s strange). He puts them in his hair.
Purple.
Politician
Wants more mage-finding charity operations, to find young mages at risk and bring them to Eengloh. He feels that Etaarem needs to open its borders and increase international trade. Wants to establish currency instead of just using the current barter-economy Eengloh has.
Atheist.
