Is polite to anyone except from the other Jovian Deities, to which he overtly displays spite and defiance. Always makes a good impression to those who wander into his clan, in order to deceive them and devour them when they finally begin to trust him. His outward personality is built on lies: His true self is only revealed around his clan. He's kind to his underlings and looks out for them, refusing to harm them unless the situation truly calls for it.

Motivations - What motivates Paradox most?

The safety of his clan and the forest in which he calls home is his top priority, if anyone takes one of his underlings from him, he'll hunt them down and give them what they deserve, before taking back what's rightfully his. Any damaged parts of the forest he restores personally, and kills those who attempt to harm any tree, plant or animal which resides within his domain. He'll fight for his underlings until the end, and would rather bad things happened to him than his clan.

Gets very angry and spiteful whenever someone brings up the other Deities and/or clans, has a tendency to rant out of rage. Makes up/'merges' words at points, especially if he's excited, and it can be rather hard to understand and keep up with him at points, especially with his joyful demeanour. He's also prone to become obsessed and clingy easily, very bad at saying goodbye, so he forces those who come to him to stay with him, forever, whether that be in the form of being devoured, or forcefully indoctrinated into his clan.

Very skilled at singing, dancing, magical spells, painting, drawing, as well as wood carving, weapon making and battle training. Background - What is Paradox’s background?

When Jovia was a young planet, there was nothing. No signs of sentient life, the planet only being inhabited by mutated, yet somewhat normal looking as well, animals and plants. Everything seemed to be peaceful, the eco system was balanced, and there was no major issues apart from the competition for food and territory between animals.

However, this would all be disturbed one night, when a shooting star blazed across the sky, splitting into five parts, each of a different magical charge and colour, and crashed into Jovia, scattering into each domain.

Paradox's life would soon begin when the golden comet shard landed in what is now named the Dark Forest, and essentially 'hatching' a week later into a being that no creature in Jovia had ever laid eyes on before. He seemed to be some odd mix of a wolf, deer and a Helicopter, the latter being what he refers to himself as nowadays. This was especially surprising to a certain wolf pack in the area, who had been keeping tabs on the shard ever since it had landed.

Just like any other Jovian, Paradox was born blind, unable to walk, fly or fend for himself. This is when the alpha of the wolf pack, who Paradox would now refer to affectionately as 'Raksha', decided to step in and take care of Paradox during his most fragile state. While she wasn't always there for him, wishing for him to be totally independant and capable of caring for himself, she was there to assist in his development and feeding, at least until she taught him how to find food once his sight, as well as walking and flying skills, came in.

However, as he grew to two years old, another skill came to light that no creature ever before had the power to harness.

One day, Raksha had returned from hunting to see Paradox using some kind of golden aura, breaking and manipulating all of the items that the wolf had hoarded in her home over the years. She had felt the same kind of energy from the shard Paradox had hatched from in the first place, but this was still a surprise to her, especially since she had seen him as just a much more mutated wolf.

At first, Paradox had struggled deeply to control his new magical powers, especially since Raksha couldn't assist him with it considering she herself didn't have the ability, but he eventually got the hand of it, and in turn, became much more independant. Raksha, seeing that he was fully capable of taking care of himself, decided to let him leave the pack and start a life of his own, though she did watch from afar to see how and what he did.

Meanwhile, the young Paradox didn't find himself settling down in one place for long, always traversing the woods, finding a place to stay for the night and then heading off again at the crack of dawn. Seasons passed, Paradox wandered, until eventually, he found a place, where he found himself coming back to time and time again. A large clearing in the middle of the woods, space that could fit hundreds, possibly even thousands, of creatures. Paradox didn't know why this place stood out so much to him, but he decided that this would be the space where he'd finally settle down.

Time goes by and a weird empty feeling began to settle into Paradox's heart, an odd void that inflicted the ugly feeling of sorrow into the young Deity's soul. At first, he wasn't sure what was causing it, but he had to figure it out soon, since it was eating at his magic and making it hard to cast spells. Looking around the clearing he called home, such empty space, he realised something, and then had a mission.

He was going to create his own family, a clan. Not one like Raksha's wolf pack, but one that worked together, nurtered one another, and saw him as their ruler.

Paradox practised spells, to see if he could create another living being from scratch, one just like him, but different in their own special way. After much hard work, he finally did it, created another being, one that cast a resemblance to him, but still had their own identity, colours and all, while also lacking magic. This infant Helicopter was Paradox's pride and joy, and he swore an oath to raise them, alongside the others he would create, like how Raksha protected him.

So, more he would make. One creation soon became seven, all donning different colours, fur shapes as well as horn structures. They had all seen Paradox as their parent, ruler, and the young Deity was hopeful that this would be the thing that would kickstart his clan, his community.

But things weren't as good as they seemed at first sight.

As Raksha wasn't the best parent figure to Paradox, ditching him once he could fend for himself, Paradox thought that the same method was key to raising children. He distanced himself from the younglings, only there to feed them, as well as cater to their other needs, though occasionally neglecting them to see if they'd try become more independat. But they didn't, they were still so young. When Paradox's back was turned, they got sick, and one by one, the seven infants became zero, Paradox was alone again.

Distraught, Paradox truly didn't understand what he did wrong, and became determined to start anew. He created a new batch of underlings with a series of magic spells, and again, attempted to raise them, changing up his method slightly. However, it still didn't work, and no matter how much he tried, they still died. One from a bear attack that Paradox was too weak to defend against, another by hypothermia as well as starvation during the harsh winter season.

As each group died, over and over again, Paradox spiralled into a depression, ready to give up. He decided to try once more, creating six Helicopters this time, and keeping them extremely close to him, not taking his eyes off of them. He fed them, made sure they were well, and kept them warm no matter what, building up supplies for the winter. Things seemed to be going well, that is, after a few months, that's when things went downhill.

It was one warm spring morning when Paradox returned back to his clan with a few berries he had picked. Feeding them to the children, he didn't suspect that anything would go wrong. But it did, as death struck hard again.

When Paradox was going to feast on the berries himself, his sensors detected something dangerous: Poison, the berries were toxic. Panicked, Paradox had hurried back to the clan, but it was too late, the poison had done it's job, the underlings were dead. Now at an all-time low, Paradox had decided to give up completely, leaving his dead clan's side as he wandered off to a nearby pond, sobbing to himself.

And then something peculiar, yet amazing, happened.

Paradox was distracted from his woes when he felt something nuzzling up against him. Turning, he was shocked to discover that one of the underlings from the group had survived. As it turns out, this was the runt, the weakest and smallest of the others, and was such pushed away when trying to get to the food, not knowing that his 'siblings' had unintentionally saved his life.

Seeing the child alive and well gave Paradox a newfound hope, and so, he began to raise the one child all alone, and he grew, making it to adulthood. He would soon become the first clan deputy, donning the name of Atlas. While Paradox grew much slower, still technically a child whilst Atlas matured, seeing his own creation grow so big and strong gave the Deity hope, and so, another batch of underlings he made, Atlas helping this time to raise them. They became the first medic, the first ambassadors, and the first average residents.

Notes

  • Originally created in 2020.

  • Paradox/The Paradox Demon isn't actually his real name, but he dislikes his real name, so he prefers using his alias.

  • He has a terrible spice and heat tolerance.

  • Due to being primarily black in colouration, he overheats really easily, which can cause him to pass out, and his robe doesn't necessarily help with this, either.

  • He has good night vision, which is why he doesn't really need his headlights.

  • He has a fatal flaw in his chest, a magic core. Basically, he (and the other Deities) has a magic core in his chest which fuels his magical energy and allows him to use and harness magic, but if it gets damaged in some way, it'll cause him a lot of pain and will kill him quite quickly. This is why he wears a robe, it's enchanted to protect his chest from harm so he doesn't die.

  • He prefers baths to showers and insists on having bubbles every time he bathes.

  • He smells of lavender, and due to his habit of chewing on peppermint leaves, his breath smells of mint.

  • His magic core allows him to heal wounds extremely quickly, even lost limbs. If he loses an arm or even his head, it'll simply reattach itself, and if it was completely destroyed in some way, it'll grow back, good as new.

  • Despite having good healing powers and magic, he isn't immune to diseases. While he won't die from them unless they're very serious (such as the Scourge of Paradox, the disease he himself created), he can't heal himself when he gets sick as magic spell functionality is hindered.

  • His golden antlers are sought after by many Jovians, and have attempted trying to hunt Paradox just to get their hands on them. Although not made of real gold, they are beautiful, and no other Jovian is able to have horns just like them. Because of this, Paradox would attack and even kill those who seek his horns, or even just a tiny piece of them, as he believes that his antlers are what 'makes him himself'.
