Silex Amoro
Tireless Scholar of the Soul
40
Male
He/him
6'0"
177 lbs.
Formal, dark colors
Silex's serene expression, impressive height, and gaunt face intimidate many people on first impression, and he hasn't aged well either with all the stress in his life and all the time he spends indoors. His skin is pale and premature wrinkles line his cold, black eyes. His hair is just as dark and reaches his shoulders. It tends to look slightly greasy, and the bold white skunk stripe running down the side doesn't exactly call attention away. Even his bony hands tell much of his storied past, his fingers moving with deadly precision, not a tremble in sight.
Dressing professionally, nonhuman magic, biology, string music
Impulsive people, shallow jokes
His sister being harmed, being manipulated
History books (fiction or non), dissection, calligraphy, backgammon
Heterosexual
Silex is cool-headed and pragmatic. He takes a scientific approach to everything, especially magic, and will do just about anything for the pursuit of knowledge. Fairness has the highest priority in everything he does: everyone is innocent until proven guilty, and maintaining a polite, calm demeanor at all times is vital. It can be hard for him to understand other people and their unpredictable emotions, but he does his best.
Though Silex is not physically fit or particularly fast, his technique is unparalleled. During a fight, he is constantly calculating the weaknesses and shortcomings of his opponent, so that he can end things as quickly as possible. He intentionally cultivates both his light and dark magic to disable mages of each. Soul control magic is also a regular part of his repertoire, allowing him to attack with the utmost precision and speed.
Published scholar and foremost expert on the soul
Silex was once a simple man. He lived within his means, mentored Kelkov Aerio in the ways of Soul Control and Dark Magic, and took care of his sister, Lyra Amoro after their parents passed away. He was never the greatest guardian, though, and was quite strict, even losing his temper at her multiple times. While he treasured her, he unwittingly caused a rift between them. And one day, he woke up to find that she'd run away from home.
He never learned where Lyra had gone or how he could find her. After that incident, Silex threw himself deep into his experiments on the soul, often using himself as a test subject to the detriment of his health. He finally managed to drag himself out of that dark place when he was contacted by The Creator, and instructed to start the Founding of the Soul Guardians.
After Emelia Reragon's meddling bore fruit, Silex cut ties with Kelkov and refused to tutor him further. Watching Emelia's plan progress without the Creator doing anything to stop her also deeply shook his faith. These days, Silex is driven most by understanding magic and the soul from a purely scientific point of view, rather than blind faith in the Creator's design as he once did.
"Violence is my absolute last resort. If it does become required, I will aim only to defend and protect, never to cause lasting damage unless my life or that of others is in grave danger."
"They make me a bit anxious, I'll admit, but nothing I can't handle."
"I would want my biography to have a simple, straightforward name, such as 'Silex Amoro: A Memoir.' "
"I greatly enjoy the sound of rain against my windows... but I prefer not to walk around outside during a storm, as it ruins my suit. Additionally, there's something especially fascinating about a cold, foggy morning, far too early for most humans to be awake."
