Everything in Joan's closet is expensive clothing brands and professional business attire, and she has a shoe collection (of mostly heels) that takes up half of her closet and is not at all appropriate for her new Alaskan home.

She never leaves the house without full makeup, not even to the gym, which she doesn't like to go to that often anyway so it's not usually a problem.

Joan likes to consider herself a vixen, a femme fatale, a powerful woman in charge. She has a bit of a dominatrix kind of personality, where wielding power over others is the ultimate goal. She treats others with respect only if they show respect to her first; otherwise she is the Queen and they are the peasants. She is proud to say she can stand toe-to-toe with any man in a professional or private setting and not blink, that she is as ruthless and powerful as them and then some.

Focused: Joan knows who she is and what she wants out of life, and you can bet she's going to get it. Put her on the scent and she is a bloodhound; she never wavers from the goal. Messy things like emotions or personal attachments won't be an issue with her.

Intelligent: Joan has well-rounded intelligence. She is book smart, street smart, and well trained in the art of common sense. She is a jack of all trades in that sense, knowing a little about everything, and makes herself well-versed in subjects when she needs to be.

Ruthless: Joan will do anything and everything to get whatever she wants whenever she wants it. She is not accustomed to facing roadblocks or challenges she can't overcome. Get on her side or get the hell out of her way.

Detached: Joan has a hard time forming personal relationships. She treats everyone and everything as if there is six degrees of separation between her and the person or object she is interacting with. It can be very difficult for her to drop her walls and bond with anyone on a personal level.

Joan is the type to have lots of casual friendships, but only one or two close friends. She is also the type to be just a little flirtatious with just about everyone she meets, which can make others uncomfortable because her words usually always have double meanings. But no one can ever get close to her on a personal level. She treats everyone like potential clients with a little bit of fun attached.

Joan's line of work means she's always in harm's way. She is an aware human in a supernatural world, working for a company that plays both the good and the bad and the in-between. So far she's had a cushy and comfortable life since her mother started working for Nightfall, but that doesn't mean she isn't braced and prepared for whatever dangers may lay in wait for her.

Joan has zero interest in marriage or children, so she has zero interest in relationships or finding love. She is all about the casual hook ups and the Friends with Benefits, having fun and not being tied to any one person. She's pansexual, completely comfortable with whatever someone identifies as, and willing to try everything once. But she is not into sex for the attachment, just for the fun. She likes to say she has an allergy to the word 'commitment', and the moment someone seems like they might want to get serious, she runs for the hills.

Joan has a bachelor's degree in Business Administration with a minor in Human Resources. That said, most of her management skills comes from lived work experiences rather than education.

Native English, fluent in Spanish, conversational in German, passable (but bad) at French and Italian, and a smattering of others thanks to business dealings and connections.

Meet Joan! She is the Branch Manager & Director for the Snow Haven branch of Nightfall, having mostly grown up in Las Vegas. She is a Human, like most of Nightfall's upper management, but her mother was turned when she was 10 years old so she's been involved with the supernatural the last 16 years of her life. She's now been sent North to open a Nightfall branch, but has never been this far north and is now wildly out of her element in addition to being alone to run Nightfall.

Snow Haven would not have been Joan's first choice for a new Nightfall branch. And it would not have been her first choice to be the one to lead it. Joan spent her entire life in the American Southwest, the land of deserts and plains, not tundra and snow. She was born to Celia Martinez and a father she never met, who dumped her teenage mother somewhere in New Mexico and abandoned them both. Her mother doesn't talk much of those times, or of her past and how Joan came to be, and Joan doesn't ask.

They moved a lot over the early years, but Joan doesn't remember any hardships that Celia must have experienced being a single teenage mother with no family to rely on. There were struggles, but Celia was both pragmatic and determined, so she would often tell Joan it was a challenge or a game. She did her best to shield her young daughter from the poverty they must have lived in, and it must have worked; Joan remembers her early childhood with relative fondness. Celia worked herself through school and began working as administrative assistants in various jobs.

That all changed when her mother was turned into a supernatural. Joan was 10 years old, and the tentatively stable life they had built in a town not far outside Las Vegas, Nevada, shattered around them. Celia was alone to deal with her turning and the sudden supernatural world their little family had been exposed to, and Joan had to deal with the frightening changes that accompanied the turning. They struggled for two years to try and return to a sense of normalcy, Joan sworn to secrecy on her mother's condition.

Their lives changed again for the better when Celia met Natasha Keller, then a brand new business owner in Las Vegas looking for someone for the HR department of Nightfall. Whispers of Nightfall had just begun to circulate that it was a business for the supernatural, but when Celia arrived with Joan in tow, Natasha was a human. She understood Celia and Joan's troubles as a fellow human raised among the supernatural, and took them in, both as clients and Celia as an employee.

Natasha came from enormous wealth, and Nightfall turned out to be hugely successful, so from then on Celia and Joan never had to worry again. Celia eventually became manager over the entire HR department, and her earnings put Joan through high school and college. Joan never wanted for anything, and quickly took to Natasha as both a friend and a role model, a woman who grew up in a similar situation and survived and thrived. She ended up going through college for a business administration degree, and began to work for Nightfall under her mother after she graduated.

So when Nightfall looked to expand out of Las Vegas, and their first expansion into a town called Bear River failed, Natasha gathered several of the women in her employ - Joan included - and sent them out to establish various branches across the US. Which is how Joan was sent to the far north to establish a connection in Alaska to service both Canada and Russia, nestled dead center in the small town of Snow Haven, Alaska.

Fully, 100% Human and with no desire to be turned.

Joan has been Aware since her mother turned at 10 years old. Her upbringing in Nightfall and as Natasha's protégé means that she has extensive knowledge on basically every species.

Joan, being an aware human, has magic-imbued talismans she carries around in order to better care for herself in the supernatural world she inhabits.

She has a SILVER BUTTERFLY BRACELET she regularly wears on her left wrist that turns hot against her skin whenever a supernatural is within ten yards of her person, and glows a faint twinkling color depending on the species the supernatural is. To unaware Humans the glow appears only to be the bracelet catching the light.

She also wears a VINTAGE BUTTERFLY RING on her right ring finger, which is a defensive ward that draws on the user's energy to block an otherwise deadly attack from a supernatural or Human against her person, in any form that attack might take. The ward is passive and will activate whenever Joan is in danger; however as she is non-magical and unable to sustain the ward through the normal magic means, it saps her strength and energy with every use and will only ward against five successive attacks. Then there is a cooldown period of twelve hours, to keep the ward from killing her. The ward is only able to be used when the ring is on her finger.

PLOT IDEAS

Idea 1: Sex! Joan needs it. She's pansexual and doesn't give a fuck. Joan is the perfect girl for you if you need either a one night stand, a FWB situation, a brief fling, a booty call, etc. This can be past, present, future. As long as your character is fine with zero strings or commitment. Joan is allergic to the word. She will ghost so fast if she thinks someone is "picking up feels" it ain't funny. Unrequited love won't really be a thing because of that. She also will not sleep with Nightfall employees because she used to be HR and the idea weirds her out as a result.

But! If you need someone for your character to cheat with, Joan has zero qualms or morals about being "the other woman". She's also happy with being the +1 to a threesome, foursome, fivesome, etc... (also, side note, I am completely comfortable with skimming over it with flowery language, fading to black, or skipping over the act entirely, whatever my partner(s) are most comfortable with.)

Idea 2: Anything to do with Nightfall, client or employee side. Joan is not above 'casing for talent', aka, if she wants it, she's going to do her damnedest to get it. Work for the Tavern? Try to steal them for the club. Work for another supplier? Try to steal for Nightfall. Etc. Joan's moral compass is low. Little can tamper her drive and ambition. I'm always up for anything anyone might want to come up with for Nightfall and Joan's role as Branch Manager for Snow Haven!
