Riyah vel Rán
Jedi and Guide
Riyah's name is pronounced Ree-ah vel Rain (it's a name from her home planet of Avaniah).
AFAB, cisgender female.
15 in 19 BBY.
5 foot 4
Riyah's an Avanian, so she doesn't have hair. She has lekku - basically long, fleshy appendages attached to your head. They're what Twi'lek and Togruta have.
In Riyah's case, hers are pearlescent white and shine iridescent colours at the edges, when she moves.
Avanians have two lekku that fall at the front of the shoulders, and one that looks almost plaited that falls down behind, between the shoulder blades.
Avanian lekku also have small circles at the edges - they are a remnant of the Avanians' aquatic heritage as they evolved from suckers.
On the top of their heads, they have a bump that looks like a shortened montral (cone-like horns seen on Togruta).
Honestly, just look at the gallery because I can't words.
Eyes: Riyah has lilac, naturally wide eyes that give her an interested, alert expression.
Mouth: Riyah's mouth is usually slightly open by default, making her look curious and interested in what's going on around her.
Avanians wear a string of facial beads across their cheeks and the bridge of their nose.
None.
Pale lilac
As an Avanian, Riyah has pearlescent white skin.
Riyah is skinnier than Blaze, as she doesn't have as much muscle. She's quite bony, with long arms and delicate fingers.
She's a different species to all my other characters, so there's that - but she can be told from other Avanians by her Jedi facial beads.
Riyah prefers light and loose clothing, so when she's not wearing Jedi robes, she wears clothes in the typical Avanian style, particularly ponchos and skirts embellised with Avanian embroidery. She also tends to wear fabric sandals and long-sleeved tops typical of her home planet.
Riyah generally wears cool, light garments made from natural, soft fabrics. Typically, she likes light pastel or neutral tones.

- Stares at her hands, or down at the floor
- Naturally looks worried or sad
Angry:
- Shakes slightly but visibly
- Bites her lip
- Bounces on the balls of her feet
- Can't look anyone in the eye
Riyah has a deep, strong connection to the Force. Any slight disturbance or dark presence in it actually causes her discomfort and even pain. She believes that fighting for the Light will create a better world, one where she and others across the galaxy won't have to experience this pain. She also lets the Force guide her path, following a desire to find out and do what is right.
Riyah is also motivated by worry of letting her master down. She constantly works on her skills in order to ensure that her master is not disappointed in her.
Riyah may be strong with the Force and a proficient healer, but her weakness is combat. She struggles with the technique and the idea of possibly hurting another being.
She can also be overly trusting and sometimes naive. She can also be detached from reality, with her head in the clouds.
Riyah is a pretty unbiased person, with few prejudices. If anything, she can be too willing to trust people, to the point where others might view her as naive.
Riyah is extremely deeply connected to the Force, and experiences it as colours: harmony and light in the Force as blues and greens, and disorder, pain or doom as reds, purples and blacks. She is a proficient Force healer.
At the temple, Riyah spends her time meditating, reading textbooks, or talking to her master or Blaze. She also likes to paint the colours she sees in the Force, which is encouraged by her master.
Riyah is calm, quite serious, and dependable. She is easily trusting, and she herself is trusted by those around her, as she is kind and sincere. A promise from Riyah can be counted on. One of the core principles of Avanian culture is trust, so being someone others can rely on is important to Riyah.
Riyah is a thinker, rather than a doer, and thinks everything through before she does it, including little things like what she's going to say next, so her speech is always clear and precise, despite Basic not being her first language. She has a calm and collected air about her and her tranquility counteracts Blaze Antilles 's excitablility about the world. While she dislikes unfamiliar situations, she tries to approach them as problems to be solved, thinking them through quietly and meticulously.
She tries not to dwell on the past, instead looking to the future. She's an optimist who sees light at the end of the tunnel, no matter how dark it gets.
No conditions (except high midichlorian count).
Hogwarts House: Ravenclaw + Hufflepuff
Riyah was a pretty difficult person to sort into one house. While displaying obvious traits of Ravenclaw, such as wisdom, a thirst for knowledge and a willingness to learn, she would also be a good fit in Hufflepuff, with qualities such as loyalty and patience. Some Hufflepuff flaws Riyah shares are forgetting about her own needs, passivity, and rarely standing up for herself. Negative Ravenclaw traits of hers include being oblivious to the world around her, perfectionism, and sometimes coming off as cold and uncaring (since she's quiet and rarely opionated).
Where the story starts, Riyah is a padawan at the Jedi Temple, being trained by Shi Zul, her Jedi Master. She's training to be a Jedi Healer.
Riyah was born on the planet Avaniah, and began to show signs of being force-sensitive at an early age. Knowledge of the Force and the Jedi is commonplace on Avaniah, as its people have a deep respect and trust in the Force. Therefore, Riyah's talent as a future Jedi was cause for celebration, rather than fear. When a Jedi Recruiter came to her village, she was passed on to them without fear or regret, but the knowledge that she was going to her vocation, her purpose in life - another core principle of Avanian culture.
She was taken to the Jedi Temple on Coruscant, where she was a diligent student. She learned Galactic Basic as well as her native language of Avanian, and can speak both fluently. As a youngling, she was introverted and kept herself to herself in the library's archives. However, she did befriend one Jedi - the irrepressible Blaze Antilles. Riyah became Blaze's confidant, whilst Blaze was able to help Riyah stand up for herself and better her combat skills.
The pair's story begins in 19BBY. When they and their masters were sent to resolve a conflict on a small moon in the Qirix system, their clone cohorts inexplicably turned on them, opening fire on the four Jedi. Together with Blaze's master, Nox, Shi urged them to run, promising to hold off the clones for as long as they could.
Though it was the only way to survive, the decision tortured Riyah and Blaze. Looking back as she ran, Riyah saw Shi crumple to the ground, fallen. Though Nox was still fighting, she knew it wouldn't be long before he fell too. She forced herself to keep moving, scrambling into an escape pod and jettisoning away from the ship, Blaze clutching her hand.
They were heading for the surface of an arid-looking planet when the ship gave a jolt and they were thrown to one side. The pod had been hit by a missile, presumably sent by the traitorous clones. Riyah and Blaze found themselves hurtling into the surface of the planet at top speed, crashlanding in the middle of a lonely world, the home of two other girls hiding from the shadows of their pasts.
Riyah never knew her parents, as she was taken to the Jedi Temple at a very young age.
They aren't a blood relative, but Riyah's Jedi Master is Shi Zul, an Omwati.
Riyah is a Jedi. She is a prominent follower specifically of the Unifying Force. This philosophy explains that everything in the universe is connected by the Force. It also believes that there is no light or dark sides, and the Force treated all things equally. The future was significant to followers of the Unifying Force, and many, including Riyah, experienced visions.
Riyah believes that no-one is all good or all bad. She will fight for what she believes in, and even die for it, but she also believes that war is usually not the way to resolve a problem.
Padawan, training under Master Shi Zul at the Jedi Temple.
Yellows, greens and light blues - they remind her of peace and warmth.
Riyah mostly eats plain vegeterian food, from the mess halls at the Jedi Temple.
Her padawan braid. For her, it's a reminder that she should always keep going and keep trying, to present the best version of herself to her master.
Her lightsaber, which is an unusual yellow colour.
Riyah has lived on Coruscant since the age of four, where there are few animals. However, she loves all animals, and is able to understand and empathise with them through the Force. Born on an ocean planet, she always felt a particular connection to marine animals.
