“We can do this, don’t worry. Let’s just hope Luke isn’t too long.” Maddie leaned more into Nathan for warmth, keeping her hand over her eyes as she looked towards the distance.

Luckily, Luke was back in only a few minutes. He nodded as he joined them and glanced back at the cabin. "No worries, just a lady and her two kids in there. Probably on vacation or something."
Esme didn't sound convinced. "What were they doing and what time is it right now?"
"Um–" Luke checked his watch. "They were eating lunch, I guess. But it's four in the afternoon…..supper maybe?"
"Trick question," Esme said. "Those three are Lucem, they're constantly eating to replenish the energy they burn just by breathing. Even the children are incredibly dangerous."
"Oh. Shoot." Luke sighed in frustration. "Well, what are we gonna do, then? Sit out here and freeze until they decide to go build a snowman together?"
Esme paused. "So….you guys remember that thing I told you about? The Mortal Counteraction Theory, where "weaker" people like you three have the ability to break magic?"
"…..Yeah?"
"How confident are you feeling in that theory right now?"
Nathan wolf-histled. "Hard to say. I believe in the fact that an important situation makes me you better at something." He turned to his companions and cocked an eyebrow.
Luke rolled his shoulders. "I could agree with that. Are we looking at a fight?"
Esme turned her head in the direction of the cabin. "Possibly. But if this works, then no. What you'd have to do is form a wall around me–since I can't do what you guys can do–and walk into that cabin like you own it. Assuming you do it right, with the right mental strength, you'll actually deactivate their magic and be able to take them out without a hitch. In fact, pretend I never told you they were Lucem. You guys have the power here, not them. They're ordinary humans, they don't stand a chance. All you gotta do is tie them up and lock them in a back room so we can get a breather before moving on. Does that sound doable?"
"Of course we can. They're ordinary humans." Nathan twirled around to face the cabin and shook himself off, steeling himself. "Piece of cake."
Luke came up beside Nathan and gave him his trademark flash of a smile. "Just like handling the bully on the playground, hey? Ooze authority and don't give 'em a chance to act cool."
"If you say so," Esme said grimly, hanging back behind them. "Good luck."
“Thanks Esme.” Maddie said, letting out a sigh and shaking her head a little, “Let’s get this over with then.”
Luke nodded and quietly led the way back to the cabin, avoiding the path that would take them past the windows. He stopped and stood by the door, listening carefully to the muted conversation inside while he waited for the others.
Nathan silently padded up to Luke's side. He nodded to Luke's hands, silently asking if powers would be necessary.
(I realized it is time for me to sleep. 1.34 am and I hadn't even noticed XP)
(lol okay, good night! Sleep well! ^^)
Luke shook his head and waved his hand dismissively. He held up three fingers, indicating they would go through the door together, and started a silent countdown once Maddie got there.
Nathan nodded, turning back towards the target. He attempted to clear his mind in preparation for the Theory.
Luke's countdown reached zero and he straightened up, ramming the door open and striding inside.
The three Lucem inside leapt to their feet, giving cries of surprise. The two younger ones ran around the table to join the woman, who held out her hand and sent a wave of intense white light towards Luke and the others. Luke leaned into it and, instead of getting thrown across the room, walked straight through the light and kept going. The Lucem's eyes widened and she quickly threw up a protective shield of light around herself and the two children.
Luke glanced at Nathan calmly. "You take one side, I'll take the other. Knock her out."
Nathan nodded over at Luke. Keeping his mind empty and focusing on the beat of his heart, he walked straight towards the Lucem family, a bland grin on his face.
He circled the three figures, easily approaching them. The youngest of the three sent a short shot of light towards Nathan, who let it envelop him. He didn't stop moving.
The woman shoved the children behind her and shouted at them, but she spoke in an unfamiliar language. Luke shrugged and scooped up a rolling pin that lay on the counter.
"Hey Esme," he called over his shoulder. "You sure about this? I kinda feel like I'm bullying innocent civilians here."
"Don't let them fool you," Esme called back from outside. "If you let down your guard, they'll strike without mercy. Now hurry up, your time's running out and I'm not sure how long the Theory will work in your favor."
"Okie dokie. Nate, I need a distraction, if ya would."
A sly grin appeared on his face. "No problem." He turned to them. "You know," he said loudly, "I find it absolutely pathetic you're losing to a bunch of humans and a spirit of negative energy no less. It's completely ridiculous you'd let yourself lose! Pathetic! Miserable! We'd be able to crush you with a pebble, no problem!"
The woman's eyes narrowed in anger and she started to glow, reaching out towards Nathan with a hand that was suddenly white hot. Before she could touch him, however, Luke caught her in the back of the head with the rolling pin, knocking her out cold. Even as the glow was fading he had turned and was digging around in the kitchen drawers for something to tie her up with. "Okay, watch the kids for a minute, maybe try to herd 'em into that back room over there and jam the door. I've got this one."
Nathan's eyes immediately softened at the sight of the two younger Lucem staring at their unconscious mother. His vision flashed and suddenly it was Tess and Will standing in front of him, sending accusatory glances his way.
Just as he was about to talk to them, the sound of Luke going through the kitchen drawers brought him back from his thoughts. "Sorry about that. We don't really have much choice."He smiled a little, refraining from patting the closest one on the shoulder.
Luke found some duct tape and used it to tie the woman's hands behind her back, then dragged her into the back room and heaved her onto the bed. The two children followed like ducklings and crawled underneath the bed, staring at Luke and Nathan warily. Luke waved goodbye and shut the door on them, bracing it with a kitchen chair. "We should probably do something about the window in there too, just in case. I'll do that if you wanna get the other two inside."
(sorry Ive actually got to go, talk later?)
(sure, np ^^)
How're you guys?
(Tired… You? sorry I haven’t been active in this chat, been super busy recently)
(No need to justify! I was just checking up on you guys. I'm sorta down atm but it'll pass I'm sure :) )
