Once the queen was gone, Virgil quietly snuck into Scarlet's room. "Are you okay?" He questioned in a whisper, Scarlet was his only friend that was still alive and there was little he could do against the queen.
"And you say I'm the cryptic one." Nykidia giggled after hearing Teresa's riddle like talk. "I may be Insane but you just say the weirdest things."
Scarlet jumped when she heard a voice behind her, thinking for a moment that it was Alice again, but she immediately relaxed when she saw that it was only Virgil. “I’ll be fine once we get out.”, was all she said, willing herself to be strong. “How are you?”
(Is it okay if there planning on escaping together?)
Sure!//
"I'm good right now, what did Alice want?" He asked, closing the door quietly. He didn't want to attract any attention. He sat down on the bed and pulled out some bandages. "Here." He said, handing Scarlet the bandages. "I know you don't like me doing it."
“Thanks.”, she said quietly, stuffing the bag back under her bed and standing in front of the mirror so that she could bandage her cut. She had barely registered the pain, she usually didn’t, years of living in the palace had lead to building up a very high resistance to it. “I’m supposed to— I’m supposed to cook dinner”, she forced out. “Which means we have to leave earlier. Which is dangerous.”
Virgil shuddered. "Who was it this time?" He asked, he almost didn't want to know. "If needed I can use the fear I have collected, it'll just cause more of a commotion." He offered, he hated using his powers in front of his frend, but he would do to keep her safe.
Teresa smiled sarcastically “well you are, but sometimes riddles are good.” Turning back to the young man, “I won’t turn into stew but double cross me or my friend, you will pay the price.” She said simply
"I've already scared him enough. Maybe." Nykidia said giving her friend a playful shove. "Can we go inside now?"
Scarlet took a shuddering breath in. “Yeah that would… that would help, but not if you don’t want to.” Patting down her bandage gigngerly, she turned to her friend, looking away. “Butler’s son, Cooks daughter.”
Virgil put a hand to his mouth. "Oh gods." He muttered, he quickly went to change the subject. "I have enough fear to get us out, now." He says, a steely glint in his eyes.
Scarlet nodded, shoulders sagging in relief. “Do you— do you think we should get— the menu out too?” It was stupid of her to hope, she knew, and dangerous.
"I've already scared him enough. Maybe." Nykidia said giving her friend a playful shove. "Can we go inside now?"
She finally smiled and shoved her back. She moved from the door and came into the kitchen “Dad, Nykidia brought guests!”
Scarlet nodded, shoulders sagging in relief. “Do you— do you think we should get— the menu out too?” It was stupid of her to hope, she knew, and dangerous.
Virgil shook his head sadly, his violet eyes filled with sorrow. "It would take to long, we don't have the time. If we leave now, we have a higher chance of making it. Alice is on the other side of the castle."
Scarlet nodded, forcing the regret out of her eyes. “It was a stupid question. Do you have your stuff with you?”
Virgil gave a nod, he always had his meager possessions on hand. "Always." He said, pulling a small rucksack from under his cloak.
Scarlet grabbed a drab brown cloak form her wardrobe, unnoticeable and a sufficient enough disguise for now. She shouldered her pack. “Let’s go.”
"Window?" He asked, pulling his hood over his face. He really didn't need the cloak, he wasn't known by anyone but Scarlet and the queen.
She nodded, pulling up her hood as well. “It’s raining, that’ll cover our tracks better.” Easing herself out her window and into the branches of the huge tree outside of it, she waited for Virgil to follow. Fear turned her stomach, but it was coupled with elation. She was going to get out.
Virgil stealthily walked onto the branch, he hated water but would endure it for Scarlet. He sensed the fear radiating off of Scarlet. "May I use your fear?" He asked in a small voice, partially so they wouldn't be caught but mostly because, he too, was nervous.
"There was a boy out in the rain. And he looked cold and wet." Nykidia yelled inside but staying outside in the rain, not wanting to track water in.
Her dad came into the open “well brin him in, I have towels for everyone.” He said
Scarlet nodded wordlessly, trying to figure out a way to get to the ground without slipping on the slick branches. “Go for it.”
"Okay, this may feel a bit weird." He said before taking a deep breath and closing his eyes. He opened his mouth and showed his sharp teeth, inhaling what looked like a shadow from Scarlet. When he opened his eyes a few seconds later they were a brighter violet.
Wait…staying in a strange abandoned house with some random family? I did not sign up for this. Cade thought, taking a small step inside the house. "You know, I have a home of my own. If you just tell me where the path is I'll be on my way." He didn't need two random girls and their dad to take care of him.
“Come in son, here. Teresa flip the switch.” Her dad said. She grumbled “fine.” She shuffled over to the switch and flipped it. The room flickered and changed back into the homey cabin it was with lights and a warm fireplace.
