I turned my head to Riverpaw and gave her a questioning look. I slowed until I was almost hovering. The heavy load I was carrying was starting to take its toll.

I was tired, so I decided to land. There were one or two small fallen birch trees in sight. The other trees were still standing, but some roots from a nearby pine stuck out.

Riverpaw braced herself as Sofie landed, looking around cautiously as other animals ran passed them, towards the area she had spotted from the sky.

“Riverpaw?” I looked at the little pup with worry.

Riverpaw's ears twitched, and she curled further on Sofie's back, not wanted to get off.

I turned away and looked around. “I need to rest…”

The area was filled with dense pine. There wasn’t much shrubbery, and if there was, it was all uprooted. Many little squirrels and rodents scattered away in search of cover. Something strange in the distance caught my eye. It was… shiny?
