“You okay? I mean, you’re not gonna die in a few seconds, right?” Rowan asked, smiling a little. Until she paused, eye widening a little in a panic. Oh gosh what he is actually dying pretty soon that would NOT be funny, idiot, idiot, idiot- She looked at Alvor for some kind of bad reaction
Alvor coughed a little before smiling and shaking his head. "Not yet, at least." he whispers. "Marrow said I have a week at the most." he shrugged before leaning back in his bed and looking around. "What is this place?" He asks softly, before returning his gaze towards Rowan.
“Oh sh-t that was really insensitive of me,” Rowan ran a hand through her hair even though moving it caused her a little bit of pain. She looked at the ground as she explained, “You’re in the hospital. It’s not too bad of a place, the nurses are really nice.”
Alvor smiled a little. "Nah. You're okay." he mutters softly as he coughs again, luckily nothing came out this time. He looked around. "Hospital… huh. I've only been around hospitals because of my dads taking me to get shots… but that's it…" he mumbles.
“It’s not too bad,” Rowan assured him again with a tiny smile, “They have really good pudding and smoothies. And good pain meds, they put the lights right out if you ever need a break or somethin’, it’s not too bad,” Rowan shrugged indifferently as if she didn’t take those pain meds so often. It was hard when her pain was so bad she just wanted to sleep through it.
Alvor smiled a little. "Well. I do like some good smoothies." He offers and shrinks back into his bed and gives a tiny sigh. He missed his dads. They were all he had. "Its really nice to meet you, Rowan." He smiled shyly and brushed some hair from his face, coughing faintly.
“Yeah, it’s nice to meet you too,” Rowan offered a smile, but she felt a pang of sadness. Too often people came here to die, to just waste away in a bed. Rowan glanced at her left hand with a frown, before looking up back to Alvor, “Are you able to stand up or are you stuck in bed?”
Alvor smiled a little bit. "Yeah. I think I can stand. I haven't tried it yet." He says softly. "What about you?" He asks curiously.
I thought I replied! I'm so sorry!//
(You’re totally fine!)
“Yeah,” Rowan nodded, leaving out the part that it usually hurt to move and she usually needed something to lean against when she got tired. Rowan swung her legs over the side of the bed, hiding her wince of pain. “Come on. Let’s go to the pool then.” The pool was usually the best place to do things without hurting too badly. And if Alvor didn’t have much longer, Rowan didn’t want to him to spend the last of his days sitting in a bed in misery.
Alvor noticed her wince and walks to her side carefully. "Here." He helps her walk, smiling a little bit. "So. Which way?" He asks curiously. He had never been to a pool. He had gone swimming in the lake by their home but he had never been in a pool.
Rowan was taken by surprise. Usually it was always the nurses helping her -if they even let her walk in the first place- and never someone who wasn’t obligated to. She smiled a little, “We’ll take a left outside the door and it’s at the end of the hallway.” She explained, grateful for Alvor’s help as she put her weight on him—she was pretty thin anyways. Rowan managed to walk despite the pangs of pain it brought—with Alvor helping her she suddenly had renewed vigor.
He nods and helps her through the halls, humming softly to himself and sighed gently as he coughed softly. Halfway down the halls a heavy coughing fit hit him, flowers spurting from his throat. He groaned quietly and moaned.
Rowan gently pat his back, concern over her face. It must be horrible… She thought as she brushed away a couple of petals from his face. “Is there anything I can do?” She asked with a hint of worry coming into her voice.
He shook his head. "Nothing." He mutters softly, coughing softly. He grinned at her. "I'll be fine." He mutters softly as he ran a hand through his hair. He helped her along the hall and into the pool.
Rowan felt bad about not being able to help, but it was like that for most patients. At least cold water sometimes soothed Rowan’s pain, most of the time no one could help her either. Once they turned into the pool room, a small smile appearing on Rowan’s face. The pool was large, with a shallow end and a deep one -Rowan never went to the deeper side in fear of drowning in case one of her organs decided to spaz out on her- and there were a stack of barely used flotation devices near the side of the pool.
Alvor helped her to the side of the pool and smiled a little at her. "So." He says happily, coughing quietly before looking at the giant pool. He loved it just by looking at it.
Rowan smiled when the water hit her skin, her tense muscles relaxing as the weight was partially lifted off them. “The pool’s nice, give us something to do if we have to be cooped up in the hospital,” Rowan said with a smile at Alvor, “Better than just sitting in the beds.” She lifted her right hand up a little, ignoring the slight ache that the action caused, “You coming in?”
Alvor nods and sighs quietly. "Sure." He sheds his shirt before cautiously walking in. The scar along his wings was still apparent even though time had passed. He sighed at the warm water, easing into it. This made him feel so much better.
Rowan smiled a little, looking at Alvor’s wings. “They’re beautiful, you know. Your wings,” Rowan told him, her eyes tracing the elegant feathers. She couldn’t count how many times in the past couple months she had wished could sprout wings and fly away from this hospital forever. Rowan was getting tired of being in pain all the time, but she tried not to let it wear on her too much.
Alvor smiled a little. "Yeah. I'm not a fan of the scar. But oh well." He extends his wing to her and smiles. "You can touch them if you'd like." He says cheerfully. He coughs softly but only a few petals come out. He doesn't let that bother him.
Rowan only hesitated a second when Alvor coughed, but upon noticing he was still okay she took a step closer and reaching out her hand. Rowan’s finger’s glided along the elegant feathers in awe, it was like touching a pool of silver because they seemed so perfect and smooth. “Wow…” She murmured, a small smile on her face, “My mother was a faerie, and she had wings like an insect, but yours are different… they’re so soft…” It was true, Rowan was half fae, but she didn’t inherit much of her mother’s magic. Rowan could interact with nature and plants sometimes, but she hadn’t been able to do that at all while in the hospital.
He nods and smiles. "You should see my dad and papas wings. They're amazing. They're so big. Mine haven't grown fully yet." He chuckles before saddening a little. He missed his parents. They were off trying to find a cure to his illness. But he wished, he really wished they would be with him if he died. He didn't want to die without his parents there to comfort him. At least for now he had his new friend, Rowan. "Your mum was Fae?" He asks curiously.
Rowan nodded slightly, “Yeah, though I didn’t inherit many of her powers,” Rowan explained, “I can kinda control plants to an extent, like I can make them grow faster or larger than normal.” Rowan smiled a tiny bit in nostalgia, “She had tons of magic like that. It used to be just me and her- we lived out alone in the woods, so she was my only experience with Faes and magic until I came here.”
Alvor listened and smiled a little bit. "That sounds amazing. My papa, John is a healer. He healed my wound from when I was little. My dad, Halo used to practice healing and medicine before he became a demon." He says happily before saddening a little. He treads in the water and sighed softly.
“Wow…” Rowan murmured. She had never met a demon before. “Are they, um, here right now?” She asked softly, subconsciously moving out to deeper water in the pool. She was grateful for the water, that made it a lot easier to move everything other than her left hand.
