Halo was already taking care of his quietly sobbing son. Alvor had a high fever, and he was dry heaving. "Papa… Papa it hurts…" He moans, reaching out towards John. Halo was grabbing a bowl of cold water, medicine and a rag.
Halo was already taking care of his quietly sobbing son. Alvor had a high fever, and he was dry heaving. "Papa… Papa it hurts…" He moans, reaching out towards John. Halo was grabbing a bowl of cold water, medicine and a rag.
John took Alvor’s hand, squeezing it lightly as he felt his son’s forehead. His eyes widened and his breath was caught in his throat for a second. “It’s going to be okay Alvor, it’s going to be okay.” John’s heart was pounding—he had no idea what to do.
Halo looked at John with worried eyes, "Healing… we need a doctor… I could call Marrow… But I don't know when she would get here…" He says, his eyes trained on his son. "I don't know if your healing abilities can work on internal wounds…" He whispers. Alvor heaves and Halo offers a bucket and Alvor heaves. "Shhhh, breathe… I'm sorry baby… I know it hurts…" He whispers.
John bit his lip nervously, rubbing his hand on his son’s back. He willed some of his healing magic on his son, but he didn’t think it was doing anything. He glanced at Halo and asked nervously, “What should we do?”
Halo dials Marrow, his eyes facing at his trembling and weak son. He waited before, "Hello? Halo it's the middle of the night…" he could hear her tired voice over the line. "I know but it's Alvor. He has a high fever, he's throwing up… I just. Can you please help him…?" There was a pause before. "I'll be there in 10."
A small wave a relief washed over John, his panic lessening. He continued to rub circles in his son’s back, “What do you think he has? Maybe food poisoning?” Hopefully nothing too bad…
(What should he have?)
Halo looked over at his husband and nods as he runs a hand through his sons hair as Alvor coughed and wheezed. "Papa it hurts…" He whimpers softly, his eyes shutting as he whimpers. He holds onto his parents as he cries.
(ooo, maybe it could be something super hard to cure so they have to search for some mythical object to save him (so we could keep developing John and Halo), or maybe something semi-normal but Alvor would have to go to a hospital type place but then he could meet another sick girl/boy/etc and we could develop more of his story from there, or something entirely different lol. We could just make up a disease/cold or something, like “Hatchinsons’s Disease” or whatever lol)
“Help will be here soon,” John promised softly, biting his lip. He wished he could do something more, but he was stuck rapidly tapping his foot.
(Maybe we could do a mix of it! Maybe Hanahaki disease and they have to find something to cure it, and go on this quest and Alvor meets someone?)
Halo rubbed his back before looking at John, his eyes wide. Alvor heaves again, choking on something. Halo shushed him gently and kissed his forehead.
(Ooo, that sound awesome!)
John watched Alvor carefully, “It'll be okay.” In truth, he only hoped his words were truth. John had never seen something like this before in his years of being in the army.
Alvor hacked and coughed before throwing up. Upon closer inspection, Halo placed a hand to his mouth. "John… Look…" He whispers. Instead of puke, soft flower petals sat in the bucket. Halo looked at John and held Alvor gently, the small male sobbing and crying.
Marrow knocked on the door, sighing softly into the night. She knew Halo would only ever call her if it was an emergency… He sounded so panicked in the phone, she could only wonder what was happening until she saw it.
John stared at the petal, “But isn’t that…” He whispered, but trailed off before he finished the sentence. He’d only ever heard of something like this in story books. “It’s impossible.”
"I know…" Halo muttered softly before rushing towards the door when he heard Marrow knock. He opened the door and let her inside. She nods to John before looking at their son. "Oh my…"
“Thank you for coming,” John said as he saw Marrow. “I’m sorry we probably woke you, it’s just… our son…” John chewed his lower lip as he glanced anxiously at Alvor.
She nods and gently walks towards the boy and runs a hand through his hair. "I'm sorry… But he will need to be hospitalized…" She mutters and looks towards Halo. Halo's head bowed and he nods. "Is there anything… Is there a cure?" He whispers as he gazes at her. Marrow thinks for a moment before nodding. "Yes. But it's rare and the brew has to be precise…" She mutters.
“What can we do?” John asked, willing to do anything to help his son. He walked away only for a moment to grab a paper and pencil, “What’s in the brew? What ingredients can we get?”
She gently takes the paper and writes them down before handing it to Halo and John. "He has about four days, a week at most. You must hurry. It'll be dangerous." She states softly and sighs.
Alvor coughed again, whimpering and crying softly. Halo looked at his son then looked at John. "Pack the essentials, love." he mutters. "We need to get moving." He whispers.
John took a deep breath, then nodded, quickly going to grab two backpacks for them and food stores. He threw in a few sets of clothing and other essentials in each backpack. It’ll be okay, it’ll be okay, it’ll be okay… John reminded himself again and again. They had gone through worse. They could make it through this.
Halo thanked Marrow who took Alvor to the hospital, kissing his forehead gently. Alvor was frightened, and he didn't want to leave his fathers grasp, but he allowed himself to be taken to the hospital. The moment Halo shut the door, he took a deep breath and sighed softly.
John grabbed both backpacks, but stopped to grab a few herbs from their stores, just in case one of them got scraped or cut and they needed it for an emergency. He brought both backpacks, equipped with clothing, water jugs, and food stores, to Halo. “He’s going to be okay.” Right? He left the last word unspoken.
Halo looked at the other with determination and nods. "He'll be fine. Let's get going." Halo walked out into the cold night, and unfurled his huge black wings. "We need to act quick." He begins to fly into the air, waiting for John to follow.
John followed Halo out, closing the door behind them. He jumped into the sky, taking in a deep breath of the night air. “Where are we going first?” John asked over the wind.
"We need to go to the western mountain. We'll find most of the stuff." He replies over the wind as he flies.
John nodded and flapped his wings a little bit harder, wishing they could already be there. But at least Alvor was in good hands. He would be okay, they’d all be okay.
Halo flew beside the other and sighed as he looked at the list before carefully tucking it into his bag. "It'll be a few more hours of solid flying. But we'll be there soon."
