(I'm okay, I was just in the process of moving, lol.)
Halo holds him, his eyes concerned. He kisses John's forehead. "Easy does it. Easy. I've got you." He says gently as he holds the other. "It's going to be okay." He mutters, wrapping his wings around the other, almost like a protective shield.
“Are- Are we safe?” He squeaked, barely more than silent. He had heard of veterans who had gotten out of battle only to be faced with PTSD, but that couldn’t be him, right? “Halo am I okay?” John whispered before hiding his face in his own arms.
"Yes, baby. We're safe. I've got you, right here in my arms. We're in the woods. And we're safe from the world." He kisses his forehead gently and smiles. "I'm right here baby." He says gently. "You're okay. I'm right here. I will always protect you."
John slowly -too slowly- relaxed again and wrapped his arms around Halo, “P-Promise?” He pressed his face into his love’s chest, breathing him in and trying to remind himself that he wasn’t on a battlefield anymore. That he wasn’t covered in blood.
"I promise, love. I promise." He whispers, kissing his forehead. Halo was a patient man, and a loving one at that. He sighs softly, kissing his forehead and running a comforting hand through his hair.
John finally nodded a little bit, still holding on to Halo tightly but the moment had passed. He didn’t know what to say, he didn’t even know if he wanted to talk about it or not. John kept his arms tightly around Halo, reminding himself again and again that his love would protect him.
Halo hummed softly, it was a very old lullaby that went missing a few generations back. He sings it softly, holding John as he runs a hand through his hair. He didn't know what scared John so much, but he was going to help him get through it.
John found the melody to be soothing for him, memorizing Halo and telling himself that he was here, they were here, and he was safe. He finally mumbled quietly, “Maybe we should… eat breakfast…” John didn’t want to face that fear, so he decided he wasn’t going to talk about unless Halo asked him.
Halo looks down at him and kisses his cheek. "It's okay. And yeah… We can get some breakfast." He says softly, smiling a little. "What do you want to eat?"
“I don’t know… Anything sounds good…” He said quietly, chewing on his lip. He slowly moved to stand up, watching the entrance to the hut carefully, as if something would jump in at any moment. John shivered a little at the brisk air which was completely opposite to snuggling in Halo’s warmth.
Halo gently brought John back to the bed. "Rest." He says softly, kissing John's forehead. "I'll make breakfast." He says gently. He smiles at the other, his crimson orbs glittering gently, a flash of blue running through them. "Just stay here." He mutters with a small smile.
“Thank you, Halo…” John mumbled and slipped back under the heat of the blankets, making a small but weary smile at Halo. He curled his wings around himself, and he closed his eyes although the paranoid feeling settled in his gut. John forced that away too.
Halo nods and kisses his forehead before slipping out of bed. He walks to the kitchen and begins to work on breakfast. Eggs, bacon, and hashbrowns. He hums softly as he works, and before long, he was placing the food in the plates and carrying them back to the room.
John sat up when Halo came back in, his stomach grumbling. The food smelled delicious, enough to get his mind off from that fear lurking in the corners of his mind. He stretched his bad wing a little bit, thankfully the pain was mostly absent by now.
Halo smiles warmly and kisses John's cheek as he sits down with the food. "Here you go, love." He smiles at the other, , squeezing his hand gently. He looks at John's injured wing. "We're going to have to replace those bandages " he says quietly, kissing John's cheeks.
John wrapped one arm around Halo, tucking himself into his love’s side. His eyes were drawn to the food, and he made a small smile, “Thank you, Halo… It smells really good,” John nibbled on the corner of a bacon strip, before taking a full on bite. It basically melted in his mouth, and he started taking larger bites and said as he was chewing, “My wing feels a lot better, now.”
Halo nods and kisses his forehead gently before looking at the other. "I'm glad to hear your wing is getting better." He says gently, kissing his shoulder before beginning to eat.
John smiled a little bit more, leaning on Halo as he ate his food. He sapped off of Halo’s warmth, forcing himself to forget about the outside world. It was just here and now, in this hut with Halo. “I love you, Halo…” John snuggled closer, if that was even possible, and happily ate a hash brown.
I love you too, John." He mutters, kissing his cheek as he eats. He wraps an arm around John as he eats and smiles a little.
John finsihed with his delicious breakfast and closed his eyes, breathing Halo in. His love was like a steady drum beat in a raging storm, like a single flame in the immense darkness. “Will you teach me to fly?” John asked suddenly, opening his eyes to look at Halo, “My wing has been getting better, and when it’s fully healed…?”
Halo looks at the other and smiles warmly. "Of course. Once your wing is clean of injury and then we can fly." He says, smiling gently.
John mirrored the smile, wrapping his arms around Halo and pressing his face into his love’s shoulder. This. This was real, this was perfect. This was what John needed, just him, just Halo, just them and nothing else.
Halo smiles, gently holding John as they sat there. He was perfectly calm and happy to have John with him. He loved the other endlessly. He hums quietly as he runs a hand through John's hair.
“Halo…? Are you… Are you sure that the monster from the cave that attacked you…” John brushed a finger over Halo’s chest, the image of blood and flame attacking his mind, “Are you sure it can’t track us?” His voice came out as a little squeak, his mind replaying the moments of the past like a movie.
Halo pauses in thought before shaking his head. "I wouldn't think so, baby. No." He kisses John's forehead. "We're safe." He smiles gently, holding John close.
