"Hello!" The small boy said cheerfully, his hand almost fully covered in blood.
Mar didn't notice the bloody door handle until she opened it and jumped at the sight of the other, younger children. She blinked slowly at Asher's bloody form.
I looked over at the kid frolicking in his own mess as he gets blood on everything he touches.
"I hope you'll clean that doorknob."
I mutter, opening one cabinet after the other, searching for something to eat for breakfast. I couldn't find any cereal, but there was an egg in the fridge, which I decided to scramble for a small breakfast.
"Um…hello." Mar responded, her voice wavering. "You are?"
Fox looked extremely uncomfortable as he slowly nibbled away at the roll. He looked as if he was folding in on himself quietly, not trying to draw any attention towards himself.
"Im Asher! Dont mind the mess!" He says, bending down to push away a small tile revealing a small stash of candy.
Fox stared at Asher with wide eyes, not even bothering to pretend like he wasn't. This place and these kids confused and scared him, but Fox was still going to hold on. He finished off the roll, chewing slowly. He wrapped his arms around his knees.
After finishing scrambling the egg, I sit down at the table and quietly eat it. Turning back to look at the kid on the counter, I notice he seemed bothered.
"You alright?" I ask him with a gentle voice, relaxing my face to communicate friendliness rather than tension.
Fox looked at the girl, his look of anxiety fading a bit into more of a timid expression. He nodded slowly, pulling his arms tighter around himself. He was not, in fact, all right, and hadn't been in a while.
Marlene wasn't sure what to do. "How old are you guys?" She broke the awkward silence.
"Im Nine!" the tiny boy says with a huge smile on his face. His inoccent smile is so full of joy that you can almost look past all the blood. Almost
Fox just stared at her, blinking, and not speaking. He glanced back at the girl who had originally spoken to him.
The kid doesn't speak and instead appears under more stress. He turns to the little boy and then back to me. I give him a smile and wave softly.
"I'm Exila, what's your name?"
I attempt at something simple for him. Maybe he could tell me his name. It would make it easier for him to express his troubles if we at least knew each others' names.
Fox smiles shyly at being spoken to, waving back. He draws an F in the air with his finger, then an O, and finally an X. He isn't going to talk, but he doesn't know much sign language so this is how he will communicate today. The stress in his eyes doesn't completely fade but at least now he appears calmer.
A nine-year old murderer… Mar shivers, heading to the pantry. She turns back to the boy. "What's your name? You should probably wipe that blood up."
"Im Asher!" he says gleefully, popping some sweets into hi mouth
"Asher. Okay." You're the oldest one here. Act like it. Mar wets a cloth and brings it to Asher's hand. "Why do you have blood on your hands?"
"I killed a squirrel!"
Belle looks up. "He isn't going to clean up until the threats come." she said quietly.
Fox swallows anxiously at the mention of the threats, his eyes glancing at the others in the room before returning to Exila. It isn't hard to see that they make him uneasy, especially Asher.
"Did the squirrel do anything to you?" Mar asks, gently wiping off his hands. If she can only keep Asher talking, maybe he won't notice the blood is gone.

"I don't remember!" He says, then giggles fr no reason.
