As they were pushed through the gate the guards were waved off. Kaz breathed a sigh of relief as they finally left, his anxiety lessening a little. There were only two people left with them now, two scientists who had been with them in the van. They reached a glass booth at the end of the hall, where another odd-looking receptionist sat. This one had small antlers and bandages wrapped around his neck as well. He looked tired, and when they arrived at the booth he forced a smile. "Last open housing unit is on the left," he droned, and the scientists led them through another metal-detector like gate
Vaughn’s eyes now narrowed. He felt furious. Furious that they had been taken to this living nightmare. He shot anyone in the building who looked at him a deadly look, like at any moment he would slit their throats if he wasn’t cuffed.
Kaz rubbed at his wrists, grateful he was out of the cuffs. Though he almost missed being closer to Vaughn. As angry as Vaughn seemed at him, the other man seemed to provide some sort of comfort despite his better judgement. They were led through the doors, and the contrast in the housing hall was immediately confusing. The hall was painted a faded blue that blended into stars the further down the hall they got. There were large windows, and plants were strung from the ceilings. One of the scientists stopped near the very end of the hall. "You'll still be staying with your respective roommates, so I suggest you pick a room you can both agree on," he said. Kaz walked over to one of the rooms, his eyes growing wide as he realized it was covered in stars. He grinned widely. "Vaughn, Vaughn, can we have this one?" he asked, bouncing up and down a little in place
Vaughn had followed at a slow place, lingering towards the back of the group. He stepped into the room where Kaz was at, looking around. It was slightly calming, the way the stars were painted all over the ceiling and walls. His lips pursed in thought before looking over at Kaz. He seemed way too excited about a simple room. “Fine,” he mumbled, hands stuffing back into his pockets.
Kaz grinned, opening the door and walking inside. Not only did the room seem painted in stars, but it also was covered with what looked like meticulously painted ocean, as well as storm clouds. There was a large window on one side of the wall, and odd-looking vines hung at odd spots in the wall. Bright, electric blue flowers bloomed from the vines, and Kaz's grin widened. "This looks just like my old room in Germany!" he exclaimed quietly, trying to keep his voice down so as not to irritate Vaughn
(Why am I like this, I keep starting new tv shows on Netflix when I need to still finish Arrow, Stranger Things, and The Defenders. Like I just watched Death Note and now I’m starting Bates Motel)
Vaughn stepped inside behind Kaz. His eyes narrowed softly as he looked around the decently sized bedroom. It looked nice, like a child’s room. But compared to everything that seems to be going on in this hellhole, it just made the room seem completely phony. This was definitely not safe. Kaz’s voice snapped him from his trance. He nodded slowly and walked over to the window, looking out. He wondered if it was unlocked. Maybe he could break it and climb out.
(oh my god you're watching all the shows I'm watching or have watched !)
The window wasn't locked, but they were at least three stories up. Kaz walked over to the window, looking down. "I don't remember climbing any stairs..?" he said, vaguely confused as to how they had gotten from the courtyard to where they were now
(Ayyy cool!)
Vaughn pulled the window open, half leaning out it. “I don’t either..” he mumbled with a heavy frown. He looked at the siding, wondering if there would be any way to climb down instead. He obviously couldn’t jump. He would break his legs or worse if he tried that.
Kaz shivered a little as he opened the window. It was cold, and the lab seemed to be overlooking an expanse of black forest dusted lightly with snow in places. "W-Would you close the window? It's cold," Kaz asked quietly, expecting Vaughn to get irritated with him again
Vaughn continued to lean out the window before moving back in. He shut the window, walking over to one of the beds. He set his bag down, glancing once more around the room.
Kaz flopped onto the bed, staring up at the ceiling. He smiled softly. It reminded him of home. He winced as his back ached, and he suddenly remembered the syringe. He opened his duffel bag and sifting through the contents until he found the syringe. He grimaced at it, the thought of willingly injecting himself with something making him a little uncomfortable. He felt for the artery in his neck, holding a finger on it as he turned to Vaughn. "Right here, right?" he asked quietly
Vaughn’s head turned to look at Kaz, glancing at the syringe, then his neck. “Yeah,” He said, watching him closely as Kaz held the syringe.
Kaz reached up, pressing the needle to his neck and closing his eyes as he inserted it into the artery. He injected the liquid as quickly as he could before taking it out and setting it back in the bag. He laid down again, wincing as he waited for the medicine to kick in
Once Kaz had injected himself with the sedatives, Vaughn turned his head away. He considered unpacking his things, but he decided against it. He would get out of this place. He didn’t plan on staying.
Kaz made a small groan as he felt the sedative kick in, tension leaking from his frame as he relaxed into the bed. A slight feeling of euphoria began to wash over him, better than almost any of the painkillers he had. "Shit, man," he muttered, the sedatives effectively killing the pain he felt
Vaughn’s brow arched at the sound of Kaz groaning. It was slightly.. attractive? Jesus, maybe he really was insane. “Told you it was good,” he said, laying down on his bed.
"I feel like Jesus," he muttered, stretching out more on top of the bed. "Is this what it feels like to not hurt all the time?" he asked, biting the inside of his cheek from making another noise of contentment at the vague high he was getting
“Mhm, it really helps,” Vaughn said, running his fingers through his hair, distractedly. He rested his hands on his chest, staring up at the stair painted ceiling.
Kaz made another small groan, slumping back against the sheets of the bed. His body felt like it was melting, but in a good way. It felt like everything that hurt was melting away until it left nothing but the high. "Thank you so much for this," he muttered
Vaughn’s jaw clenched at the groan that Kaz gave. Why the hell did he keep doing that? And why did it make Vaughn feel so weird inside? “Yeah, whatever,” he mumbled in response, not looking over at him.
Kaz looked up at the ceiling. The stars seemed like they were swimming on the ceiling, and the flowers looked too bright in his current state. He threw an arm lazily over his eyes, trying to block some of the light
Vaughn noticed Kaz’s gestures and he got up, glancing around for a light switch. When he found one, he flicked the lights off. He walked back to his bed, laying down again.
"Thanks," he muttered, rolling a little so he could hold one of the pillows to his chest. He glanced over at Vaughn, taking a few moments for his eyes to focus. Huh. Vaughn actually looked kinda good on the bed. You are higher than a fucking kite, quit that, his mind gurgled as though it was being strangled by the meds as it whispered in the back of Kaz's brain
Vaughn rolled over onto his stomach, trying to get a bit more comfortable. When he couldn’t do that he got up, unbuttoning his shirt. He then took it off, but kept his undershirt on. He glanced over at Kaz for a moment. He was high as hell, it wouldn’t matter if he changed. He unbuckled his belt as he dug through his backpack. He took out a pair of sweatpants and tugged his slacks off, dropping them onto the floor next to his bag. He pulled the sweats on, adjusting them a tad before packing his other things away.
