(WHO GAVE THE DOG TO BE THAT CUTE?!)
(THE LIL HOWL WAS SO TEENY AND SAD)
Vaughn rolled onto his side, facing away from Kaz. He grabbed at the sheets, pulling it up to his waist before promptly kicking them off. Too hot.
Kaz folded his glasses and set them on the small bedside drawer, sighing as he rubbed at his eyes. A jolt of panic struck through him as he realized he had made noise. What did Vaughn say? his mind spat. You had better pray you wake up tomorrow morning. If he doesn't kill you, I just might, it hissed, and he curled in on himself beneath the sheets
Vaughn didn’t comment on the small noise he heard behind him. That’s not what he cared about. What annoyed him was the constant loud talking. Subtle things like that didn’t matter too much to him. He let out a slow breath, taking one of the two pillows on his bed and hugging it agianst his chest. It was almost childlike, the way he did it.
Kaz wrapped his arms around himself, staring at the wall next to him. He could feel himself drifting off, and he welcomed the sweet release of unconsciousness as it finally overtook him.
(y'all wanna skip to the transport?)
(Yes.)
(Yeah, that sounds good)
Kaz woke with a start, falling off his bed and hitting his head on the corner of the nightstand. Damn nightmares. His mind hadn't lied when it told him he would be lucky if he lived through the morning. He felt something warm on his forehead and hissed slightly as he reached up to touch what felt like a small gash in the skin. His fingers came away red, and he scowled down at them angrily
Aliana wouldn't lie, she couldn't sleep all night. She was to nervoucited. She had already packed everything up and was now sitting on her bed, humming a tune, and swaing to the melody.
At the sound of a thump, Vaughn quickly sat up in bed. He rolled his shoulders back, rubbing at his tired eyes. He looked over at Kaz who was on the floor with a nice sized slice on his forehead. “You always fall of the bed or something?” He asked in a low tone, sounding scratchy and rough from sleep.
Kaz sat up, wincing at the pain in his joints and head. He opened his mouth to respond, but remembering his nightmare he simply shut his mouth and nodded. He began to rummage through his bag, pulling out a small piece of gauze and some medical tape before grabbing a bottle of pain pills
Vaughn frowned slightly when he looked at the pain pills. “Maybe you should slow down with those, you’re going to overdose or something,” he warned as he got out of bed. He stretched his arms out, feeling a few cracks and pops as the stiffness left his muscles.
Kaz didn't know what to do. He wanted to explain that he couldn't really get high off them when his body was in so much real pain in the mornings, but he didn't want to speak in fear Vaughn would get violent. He chose to nod slightly, putting his glasses on and walking into the bathroom
Vaughn collected his clothing into his bag, checking through his things to make sure everything was there. He took a small, simple, silver band from the bag, slipping it onto his right ring finger. He zipped his bag shut, glnancing around the room.
Aliana stood up and paced around the room. Her anxiety was kicking in. Despite her usual carefreeness something about this was setting her off.
Kaz sighed, staring at himself in the mirror. A trickle of blood had made its way down the side of his face, and he scowled. "You are a fucking dumbass," he muttered to himself before grabbing a towel and wiping at the blood. It wasn't too big of a gash, he would manage. He finished wiping the blood away, setting a small square of gauze over it and taping it to his forehead. His hair just so happened to fall halfway over it, which he was grateful for. He took a small cup from the side of the sink, filling it with water and taking a couple of the pills. He drank the water and threw the cup away, walking back into the room quietly
“Pace a little quieter please,” Venezia called. “I’m trying to sleep. It’s really all you do anymore, she thought to herself bitterly. Mom would be so disappointed. Jessie too and you know it. She shook her head sharply. “I mean, I might as well since we’re getting kicked out.”
Aliana turned to Venezia, "It might no be so bad right? I mean this could be the start of a new adventure! That would be cool."
Vaughn’s eyes flicked over to watch Kaz when he stepped back into the room before going back down to his bag. He couldn’t help but feel nervous and anxious from the idea of practically being tested on. What’s the matter Finley, scared of loosing your breath? the whispers taunted, his lungs tightening. He took a breath, shoulders shuddering slightly. He zipped open his bag, taking out what looked like an old Walkman, and a small cassette tape.
Kaz sat down on the bed, throwing the bottle of pills in his bag before zipping it and setting it next to him. He glanced over at Vaughn, noticing the tape. He opened his mouth to ask what kind of music he had before shutting it. He doesn't want to listen to your voice Kaz, his mind sneered. You had better keep it shut before I shut it for you, it threatened
Vaughn opening it, popping the cassette tape inside before shutting it. He connected earbuds to the Walkman, simply staring down at it. His old therapist had given it to him to use when he got stressed. He carried it with him most places, just in case he felt a panic attack coming on. Music seemed to help calm his nerves.
Kaz's shoulders slumped slightly, and he winced as a headache began to form. Wonderful. Just more pain to deal with. He didn't get long to feel sorry for himself though, because several guards opened the door and filed into the room, followed by a scientist. "It's time to go," one of them said, and Kaz felt his lungs tighten
Vaughn gave the guards and scientist a hostile glare, putting one of the earbuds into his ears. He slid his backpack onto his shoulders, stuffing his Walkman into the side pocket. He listened as the music started up. Some alternative song that he couldn’t exactly remember the name of started playing.
Kaz slung his bag across his back, trying to remember how to breath as he walked out. The guards began to escort them down the hallway, and two other groups were leading the other pairs of candidates down the hall behind them. Some of the other residents stopped to stare as they made their way down the hall and out into the yard. A large, armored van was waiting for them, along with more guards carrying what looked like cuffs. The guards behind them shoved them forward, and Kaz felt something click in his brain. Before he knew it he wasn't Kaz anymore and he was socking one of the guards holding the cuffs in the jaw, an angry grin plastered across his face
Vaughn had felt completely calmed by his music, but his eyes widened in surprise when Kaz struck one of the guards. “Las, what the hell?! Are you trying to get yourself killed?!” He shouted, moving to grab Kaz.
