(Poor Kaito, I'll go have Koki hug him.)
Koki looked at Kaito, now swirling eyes full of concern. She looked over him, deciding he needed a hug. "Are you alright mister?" She asked, already hugging him lightly. She didn't want to break his ribs.
(Thank you, my boi needed that)
Kaito tilted his head slowly to look at Koki. His eyes were lacking life but he managed to crack a soft smile. His soul transferring process was possibly the most painful.
Ryuusei had sat down on the floor, still coughing a few mouth fulls of water every now and then, no longer worrying about staining the carpet; it had already been soaked with muddy water, dirt and blood so worrying about it was pointless now. He didn't show much emotion when Kaito walked over from the judge, just giving him a slightly concerned look of "are u ok dude?". He didn't know this guy too well so he didnt feel safe going full friendly mode on him just yet.
But just because he wasnt quick to react, didn't mean he didnt care at all. He would help if he was needed, but right now Kaito seemed to be doing alright even without him
Yanluo closed his spell book as it turned back into a feather fan.
”Alright… I will now take my leave… if any of you need me for anything, I am in the fifth court… Soldiers!” he called out as the four men who have been kneeling all this time stood up in unison.
”Thank you for having me Qinguang” the fifth judge ended as he took his leave.
”Thank you coming” the first judge responded before standing up.
”Now… I know you would all want to heal and all that but we’re going to have to travel a bit first. But don’t worry, it’s by boat, not by land” the first judge stated as he opened the exit doors of his court.
”Ah, they’re already here, come on” he invited the four now mixed spirits to him.
(I’ll have to leave this here for now, gonna go get some sleep ;-;)
"As soon as we get… Wherever we're going, I'll make you a cake." Koki promised, letting go of Kaito after a few moments and nodding. "Do you want chocolate? Yeah, you want chocolate. And if you tell me you're lactose intolerant, we can't be friends."
The boy rose up to his feet, walking quietly behind the others. The corners of his mouth seemed to twitch, slightly forming a pained grimace when the judge mentioned a boat. He was just out of the water and now they were gonna go back at it again - the memory of his death was still quite fresh in his mind so right now, any mentioning of a water source made his stomach turn, making whatever water was left in him gush out through his mouth in the middle of a coughing fit.
He followed the judge, using whatever was left of his old clothes to wipe his face; his body was still acting like a drowned corpse, therefore water still dripped constantly from his hair and clothing, making him look like a wet pile of seaweed. His empty eye socket was constantly bleeding, blending with the muddy water and making an huge mess. It seems that merging his soul with a spirit creature had not affected his body, or at least not yet.
He tried rubbing off the blood on his face with his sleeve (unwillingly making an even bigger mess) while listening to the smaller girl with one ear. He didn't understand some of the things she was talking about; cake? What that something edible? Chocolate? What was that?? "Lactose intolerant"? What was that even supposed to mean???
(again, I hate school)
Jennifer hadn't really reacted too much, other than surprise at the whole ordeal not being super painful. She also noticed that she didn't really feel all that different, but…eh.
The wound in her chest that she'd been ignoring the entire time ached a little less, though.
Deciding that Koki had the one guy occupied and that the soaked one seemed a little lonely, Jennifer approached the latter. "Hey, are you alright?" she asked. "That whole thing looked a little…yeah."
Ryuusei was initially slightly startled by the girl, looking up at her with a surprised expression before averting his gaze, turning his head in such a way that his bleeding empty eye socket faced away from her. He knew she was probably okay with seeing an injury - they were both dead after all, the girl possessing an equally obvious wound on her chest - but he still felt like it was rude to expose the worst parts of him.
"Mn. I'm alright. I've been through worse."
He had pretended to be in pain because the judge had asked him to, and now that he thought about it he felt even more embarrassed about the whole ordeal. The only thing that could have been counted as painful or more likely, unpleasant, was the water puking part - dead or not, water gushing through his nose and mouth was definitely something he could live without.
"Oh," was all Jennifer could say to that. Now that she thought about it, she figured that he must have been alive when his eye was being gouged out, and had either died of blood loss in rain or drowned shortly afterward. Still, that had to be pretty crappy. "My name's Jennifer, by the way. What's yours?" she queried, trying to change the subject.
(I'd like to mention that Koki has a large amount of shrapnel in her body. She has a few large ones in her forehead and her dress is stained with blood.)
The boy faintly repeated her name in his thick japanese accent, breaking it into syllables 'jye - ni - fuaa' as if trying to get used to the strange name. 'What does it mean, what kanji do u use to spell it?" he thought to himself, trying to process the information.
"Um, my name is Ryuusei, miss." he presented himself, putting his hands to his sides and bowing politely before her. He may have lived a poor life, but he was taught to always be polite no matter what. "May i ask where are you from? I do not seem to recognize the name you bear. Are you from outside of Heian Kyo?" he asked, lightly rubbing the back of his head in an apologetic sort of way.
Heian Kyo was the old name of the modern day Kyoto back in the Heian period, before the westerners came along so the girl's name felt alien to him, given he was unable to piece together its meaning.
Out of all the souls gathered here, he was the only one who looked out of place, given his tattered kimono and pants that made him look like he would fit in perfectly in a samurai movie. No one else wore anything remotely close to what he had on at the moment, which made him wonder about their place of origin
Katio gave Koki a small genuine smile.
“No, I’m not lactose intolerant, but I am allergic to tree nuts like macadamia, walnuts, things like that… thanks for caring by the way” he thanked the girl as he looked outside. The blood on his lips were starting to dry.
The sound of footsteps came into the court.
”Greetings everyone—“ a figure in a green and white robe stepped view. They had brown hair, emerald green eyes, an Oni mask tied to their neck like the first judge did, emerald-colored shoulder pads, golden lapels, blackened sleeves, a genuine and kind smile when he spoke up, and a nice playful voice. ”—I am the second judge, Chujiang, and I’ll be the one taking you to your resting place alongside this lovely spirit; Shie” when the second judge finished, a pale brown eyed girl with chest lengthened black hair in a pure white kimono stepped up.
”Pleasure to be of assistance” the girl gave a small, polite bow to everyone.
Jennifer couldn't help but smile a little bit–the guy must not have gotten out that much. "Yeah, another country actually. America," she replied. The name Ryuusei had used–Heian Kyo–seemed familiar somehow. Maybe she'd seen it on a map somewhere? Jennifer was about to ask more, but Chujiang and Shie appeared and she felt it would probably be rude to continue conversation while they were trying to help the group. She bowed to the girl and the judge respectfully.
The boy looked at Jennifer like she was from another planet. He knew very little about what was outside the capital city, let alone outside the country. He'd heard about the great empire of China and about a far away India, but 'America'? Never heard of it. He mouthed the word silently as the girl turned her attention towards the newcomers, and so did he, answering with a polite bow to their greetings
Kaito turned to the two new figures as well, bowing politely and silently.
The second judge smiled as the three people; Jennifer, Ryuusei, and Kaito bowed to him. It showed that he was the superior here.
Qinguang, the first judge gestured outside the doors.
”Thank you for bringing a decently sized boat for once” he teased the second judge.
”Well of course, it’s not everyday that you would guide guests who are human spirits mixed with mythical spirits” the second judge laughed the last part of the answer out.
”The doctors are waiting my lord…” Shie brought up with her bland and calm voice.
”Ah right, if you four would be so kind to just—“ he started pacing to outside the court ”—follow me”
(Jennifer bowed too lol)
Jennifer followed. She was a little curious about the doctors–they were dead, so did their injuries really need to be treated? It wasn't like any of them were going to bleed out or something. Maybe it's so we don't terrify people when we try and help them, she thought.
(Also, did Ryuusei have white hair to begin with? Bc that'd be a pretty funny conversation. "Uh…dude?" "Yes?" "Your hair's, uh, turning white.")
(I’m sorry ;~; I accidentally skipped that part XD)
(Tbh i was actually trying to decide if he had black hair to begin with, but turned white once he became a spirit, or it was white from the start. Tough choice man, i'll roll with watev u think is cooler)
Ryuusei obediently walked behind the judge, not saying anything as usual. He was used to acting like a shadow among people, unheard and unnoticeable.
He wasn't exactly looking forward to the boat ride, but he didn't really have any other option so he had to just go with it. Hearing about doctors caught his attention a little bit - it seemed natural for their bodies to be fixed in order to proceed to fulfill their heavenly duties, otherwise they would look no different than the regular corpse spirits that terrified mortals. He doubted anyone would want help from someone looking like a fresh drowned corpse.
Maybe these doctors could do something about his eye as well?
Koki smiled at Kaito, grabbing his hand and pulling him along. She was adopting him, he looked like he was going to need a sister. I will teach him self care. I will be a good younger sister.
Kaito followed Koki, behind Ryuusei with his right hand covering his mouth to prevent any blood from coming out. They eventually got outside.
The scene outside was misty, the temperatures were low and the winds blew softly. There were trees outside as well, arranged in forests just across the river they had to cross. The boat parked outside was a decently sized wooden one.
”Please get on the boat, one at a time…” Shie, the female spirit in white, requested as she got on first, followed by the second judge.
The mist and the wind did not bother Ryuusei not even one bit - he himself was soaking wet and cold as a stone, therefore he felt nothing.
However, when he spotted the boat, his face turned grim; getting close to water so soon after he'd just exited it a while ago made him feel uncomfortable. He sighed deeply and carefully boarded, holding on to the seat like a tensed cat, looking anywhere but at the water. He wasn't afraid it, he just needed a little bit of time to get over his past trauma before he could look at water again without feeling sick to his stomach
Kaito let go of Koki’s hand as he got on the boat. Thankfully, he wasn’t afraid of the waters so this ride was going to be easy. Each person took up only one row so he didn’t have to sit next to anyone… which was great considering the fact that he did not know how much he could stop himself from coughing out blood.
The blue character that was on his cheek had glowed brighter when he got out the boat.
