Morrigan stared straight ahead. “My dad lives here.”, was all she said.
Morrigan stared straight ahead. “My dad lives here.”, was all she said.
"Oh." Morrigan hadn't said much about her past, but Joanna knew enough to guess that her dad wasn't a good egg.
Morrigan’s lips were pressed into a hard, thin line. “He scares me.”
Cicada looked at the sea and the waves lulled her to sleep.
(Last time she's just randomly sleeping guys. I promise.)
(Lol k)
(I have to get this exposition done before we land in Anjou or else my plan will be ruined!)
Ahhh)
Cicada had entered her third dream memory. She kept going back in time because now it was the day she met Breeze. Cicada had just stolen a pouch of gold from one of the merchants at the age of 5. It was her first major crime. Breeze was a little 4 year old who had caught her stealing and now was confronting Cicada.
“I saw you took!” She yelled at Cicada.
“I didn’t took nuthin’,” Cicada responded. She got caught what else was she supposed to say.
Morrigan’s lips were pressed into a hard, thin line. “He scares me.”
Joanna nodded. She gave Morrigan's hand a reassuring squeeze. "He can't hurt you anymore. Especially while I'm here. He so much as blinks at you, I'm whacking him upside his head."
“I saw yous tooks the gold,” The girl crossed her little arms and stared Cicada down.
“Yes I took the gold!” Cicada shouted at the girl, “I needs it to buy a ship!”
“Why do yous want to buy a ship?” the girl asked.
“So I can get out of here!” Cicada cried out, “I want my mommy and daddy!”
A faint smile appeared on her face. “He’s a general. But thanks, Joanna.”
“Wheres are theys?” the girl asked again.
“I don’t know!” Cicada dropped down to the ground tears spilling out of her eyes, “I want to find them.”
“I donot knows my parents either,” the girl responded, “Maybe I needs a ship.”
A faint smile appeared on her face. “He’s a general. But thanks, Joanna.”
"No problem. It's what friends do."
“Maybe we should get a ships together!” Cicada looked at the girl, “So we can find our mommys and daddys together!”
“Yeah!” the girl jumped up and down, “I’m Breeze!”
“I’m Cicada!” Cicada excitedly replied, she stuck her hand out. Breeze flinched.
Ryan sighed. Yeah, I'm not leaving at Anjou. Cade probably isn't there… He stood up and walked up on the deck, hoping they were close to docking. I don't think I can stand on the deck for too long without throwing up…
“How do I knows yous is not going to leave me?” Breeze asked.
“Because I promise that wes going to be together forever!” Cicada shouted.
“Okay!” Breeze cried and pulled Cicada into a hug.
Cicada heard the sirens voice in her head, “You promised we would be together forever.”
The dream changed and Cicada wanted to turn away with what she saw.
“Friends.”, she repeated quietly. For the first time, she was exposing what was really beneath the goth facade to Joanna.
“Brecken we trusted you!” Zanna shouted at him. He walked toward a patrol of Inquisitors.
“How could you?!” James shouted. They were surrounded, nowhere to run, not where to go.
“Simple,” Brecken took off his bandana and vest, “I’m was an undercover Inquisitor. I never cared for any of you.”
Joanna nodded.
The silence stretched on and on, and eventually Morrigan got tired of it. “Remember when we used to have Pancake Fridays before….. before Ace left.”
Breeze was crying. They had escaped Inquisitors hundred of times before, but they had never been betrayed before. Especially to the Inquisitors.
“Get them,” Brecken pointed to the crew. The Inquisitors rushed at them. The battle was hard, but one by one they all fell. Zanna was first, an Inquisitor was relentless as he whipped her until she fell limp to the ground.
Joanna nodded. "Yes, I do. I remember I'd make surprise flavors once a month."
“Zanna!” Cicada cried out, she fought twice as hard. River was next, he was shot in the head.
“River!” James shouted out this time, “Watch your back red!”
A sad smile spread across her face. “Yeah. My favourite was chocolate chip with vanilla bean icecream.”
“I am!” Cicada pushed off another Inquisitor. Breeze was next, a blade tipped in poison made her fall and writhe on the ground.
“Breeze!” Cicada cried out. She wanted to run to her friend, but she couldn’t get there. James was the last, two blades through his body. As he fell, Cicada ran and hurried to catch his limp body.
