"It was good. I made some friends, so that's good." Rae tapped her phone against leg. "I actually have a job in a bit, but you are welcome to come along." This was one of her bigger gigs, and maybe, just maybe she'll be on a magazine of something.
“A job? What do you do?” Nathan asked, a bit confused. He was curious, wondering whether she was like a coffee shop barista or in a band or what.
"I'm a amateur model." It was weird saying it outloud, but it was nice to get it off her chest. "If you would like to tag along, I think it should be okay." She's never brought anyone with her, but Rae was sure it would be fine. "Then, maybe we can go get icecream… together." It was in a near by park, so it wasn't too far away.
A model? Nathan had no chance. Even if she was only an amateur model. It wasn’t like he had anything better to do, though. “That’d be great,” he agreed. Wait…was she asking him on a date? He blushed a little, hoping she didn’t notice.
"Awesome! You don't mind walking do you?" She stood and started walking towards the small park where they all were meeting. It was a beautiful park with many colorful flowers and nicely cut green grass. "It's a summer photoshoot, so I'm really excited." And you could definitely tell. It was written all over her face.
Nathan smiled. Her enthusiasm was contagious. Plus she looked beautiful when she was so happy about it. “That’s awesome!” Nathan replied. “What is it a photoshoot for?”
"A new clothing line. Other models will be there trying out. Olny three will actually make it though." Although it was a competition, she never got down about it. If it wasn't this one, than the next one. You can never give up on your dreams, or at least that's what she thought. She threw her fist in the air for some fighting spirit. "I might get a bit embarrassed."
“I’ll still cheer you on,” Nathan replied. “Wait, how do these things even work? I’ll be your moral support.” He smiled. “I’m sure that you’ll do great.”
"Well, they dress us up in the new clothes and we take pictures, then they decide who did the best." They arrived at the park, and a huge crew was there along with many other beautiful young girls. It was only now that Rae started to feel a bit inferior. "Hello, how may I help you." A tall woman with a clipboard asked. "I'm one of models and this is my friend." She looked between the two, her stone face unchanging. "Friend, you stay over there." She gestured to a spot in the grass where people had chairs and blankets. It was mostly the families of the other contestants. "Name?" Rae felt her heart sink. It was her first official gig and now she was getting nervous. "Rae." The lady pointed to a tent where the girls changed and got their makeup done.
Nathan offered her an encouraging smile. “Even if you don’t win, I still think you look beautiful,” Nathan told her before he lost his nerve, and then turned and walked over to where the lady had referred to. His face was red but he was proud of himself for not chickening out this time. He dared one glance back and a thumbs up before he looked for a place to sit.
When Rae saw that Nathan gave her a thumbs up she gave him one back. He was cute. She went to where the lady had told her and immediately when she entered the tent they began her work. Makeup, clothing, jewelry, all of it. She just hopped she could pull all of this off. It took a while for them to call her name, but when the did, she walked out of that rent with grace and professionalism. Her curly hair was up in a somewhat mohawk style and she wore a jean jacket. They wrapped her in lights and began the shoot.
(This is how she looked. https://pin.it/ipkj2rzhkrj6yv)
Nathan’s breath caught. She looked gorgeous. There was no way she wouldn’t make it. He thought of some more song lyrics, finishing his song mentally, not wanting to write while Rae was up. He smiled at her encouragingly.
Her eyes locked with Nathan's. Although her mouth didn't smile, her eyes did. She still needed to concentrate on her job. After a while it was a different girls time to go up and Rae bounced over to Nathan. "So, what did you think? Do you think I'll get in the model magazine?" The model magazine, wasn't huge, but it was a big thing for amateur models. Nathan was now the only one besides her family that knew she wanted to be a model.
“I definitely think you will; you did amazing!” Nathan complimented her. He grinned. His notebook was sitting, open, on his lap with his pencil lying next to him. The page was almost full with words scrawled across it. He hoped that he wasn’t coming on too strong.
"You writing a new song?" She noticed the notebook open in his lap. Although she didn't read it, that would have been rude. But it would be nice if it was a new song. The same woman walked up to them and tapped Rae on the shoulder. "You may keep the clothes. We'll call you in a few days to update you." Finally the stone face was gone and the woman smiled. She was quite beautiful. "You did good. Now go rest." She walked away. "So, icecream?" Rae held out her hand.
“Yeah, sounds good,” Nathan agreed with a smile. He took her hand and stood up, then picked up his notebook and pencil. “Do you want to read what I have so far?” he asked shyly. Maybe singing was off the table right now, but he could show her the lyrics. Even if it was mostly about her. He hoped she wouldn’t be able to tell.
"I would love that!" Walking down the sidewalks, she took the notebook and started to read over it. When she moved here one of the first things I noticed was the small icecream shop. Her house was pretty near to everything. "This is really good. I can't wait to hear you sing it." Rae still held hope that he would sing for her one day.
Nathan blushed, thinking maybe he’d actually find the courage to sing it for her someday soon. “Thanks,” he said. He opened the door for her, grinning. He jokingly bowed. “After you, my lady.”
(Aawwww Nathan and Rae are so cute together)
"Why thank you kind Sir." Rae curtsied and walked in. She loved icecream, but she also had to be careful about what and how much she ate. It was an old fashioned icecream shop, and that's why she loved it so much. Walking up to the counter, she scanned all the flavors trying to pick one.
Luca was bored again. He seemed to be that a lot. And he had no one to annoy. Which only made it even worse. Oh well.
Nathan followed her to the counter with a smile, his eyes roaming the menu. He didn’t have a clue what he wanted, so he glanced at Rae, wondering what she was going to get. After a minute, he came to a decision. “I’ll have a single scoop of strawberry,” he said, and then looked at Rae for her order.
"Hm… I'll have cotton candy." Rae gestured to the blue and pick icecream in front of her. "You got it." The older man turned to grab two bowls and scooped the icecream. Once he was done he handed them the little bowls and smiled. Rae reached into her pocket for a bit of cash she had. "That will be twelve dollars." Taking a twenty dollar bill from her pocket she handed it to the man.
“Thanks,” Nathan replied gratefully, realizing he didn’t actually have much cash on him. He would definitely pay next time—if there was a next time. He hoped there would be. “You didn’t have to pay for mine, though.”
(Sorry I haven’t been around much, I’ll be back normally starting tonight!)
Damien’s brows raised as all the instruments were listed off. “Wow- that’s a lot. Did you learned- learn those as a kid?” he asked. After a minute, the bell had rung for school to be dismissed. “I guess it’s time to get going.”
