“Thanks,” Kaz murmured, taking the pills and downing the water before setting the cup aside. He leaned against the arm of the couch, resting his head tiredly on it
"You did," Dylan agreed, "But secrecy is apparently very highly valued among the more 'official' heroes. To be completely honest, I stumbled upon Avery and Element on accident. I was taking a late night stroll through the college, and there they were. Chatting about some combat that had happened earlier that night. Then a big rock fell out of the sky and, well, I did the dumbest possible thing. Just walked right up and laid my hand flat."
He examined his right hand, and it slowly began to glow yellow. His eyes shimmered with the same tint. "I got a mixed blessing out of it, though."
Vaughn nodded his head slowly as he listened to Dylan. He reached over and laced his fingers with Kaz’s, giving his hand a gentle squeeze. “We all need to make a pact to stop touching weird space rocks,” he muttered.
Kaz nodded. “Yep. By the way, Kaon is currently calling you ‘insolent strands of bacteria.’ Not sure what that’s about, not sure I want to know,” he mumbled, half muffled from his face being pressed into the couch
“Mhm, he’s not too fond of us after what just happened,” Vaughn simply said, his free hand reaching up to run his fingers through Kaz’s curls in a comforting, affectionate way.
Dylan's eyes went wide, "Wait a minute. I got my extra blinding ability from the big hunk of rock I touched. Kaz, do you feel any different?"
“I have a migraine and I just spent ten minutes crying demon blood. Does that qualify as feeling different?” he asked, leaning a little on Vaughn
Dylan shrugged, "Well, there is that. Maybe it's just different for everyone." He formed a few brooms set them working.
"Artemis is gonna be down here any minute. We should at least mitigate this mess for her."
(Should we time skip? I dunno, I feel like it would just be awkward to go on from here. Just to next morning, perhaps?)
(Probably?)
(Yeah, we should just time skip)
(And oh my god, I just realized that the person who played Artemis deleted their account)
(Yeah… that's another part of why I figured we should just skip. Let's not get too far away from @AutumnBlaize, though.)
(That sounds good to me)
(I'm here, but only momentarily! And a time skip sounds good. Next morning is fine.)
Avery woke up the next morning, feeling much better than she had the day before. Apparently, a good night's rest was all she needed to get the dizziness to go away and for her mind to clear. She still didn't completely remember what had happened, though. What she did know was that there was a much neater bandage over the bullet wound, so someone must have fixed it.
(Oh, and Avery was just upset that she couldn't do much. She didn't really care what the cause was, it was just making her upset. As was previously stated, she hates not being able to do anything.)
(Bumping.)
With a loud yawn and slow mind quite unlike his usual wake-up routine, Dylan arose from bed. Last night had been tough. Even with 4 pairs of hands helping to clean things it had still taken him a good hour or two to help Artemis get things tidied up.
At the end of it, he had been dead tired. He was still dead tired.
He practically fell out of bed and stumbled out into the hall, his head still swimming in a thick soup of drowsiness.
(You're back!)
Coffee would be really nice right now, Avery thought as she carefully swung her feet over the edge of the bed. She tested her weight, remembering that she hadn't been able to walk on her own last night. Thankfully, she wasn't dizzy this morning, so she could walk. It must have been the sleep that helped the most, though how it had helped with blood loss, she wasn't sure on. She was certainly no doctor!
Avery ran a hand through her hair, hoping to tame it a bit before going to find coffee and breakfast. When she was sure that it looked good enough, she stepped out into the hall. Dylan was there, too, looking more tired than she'd ever seen him. She smiled a bit and waved at him, wondering if he'd even notice her in the state he was in.
(Bumping.)
(Sort of. Off and on, due to work…)
Dylan waved back, trying his hardest to open his eyes fully. It was Avery, he knew that much by the way she moved. What he couldn't figure out was why he felt like falling flat, considering last night.
Last night? Or this morning? Dylan couldn't rememeber.
"'Eya… Avery. You look much better. Better than I feel, at least."
(Same here.)
"Yeah, I feel a lot better," Avery agreed, nodding. Her smile looked somewhat concerned as she said, "You look about dead on your feet. Maybe you should go back to bed? I know we're kinda on a time crunch, but it won't help if we're all sleep-deprived. Otherwise, I was about to go find coffee and breakfast." She shrugged and looked away to hide the blush that had started to form on her cheeks. "You can join me if you'd like."
(Bumping.)
Dylan wasn't fully coherent, but he understood enough. "I'd love to. Though I'm not quite sure where food is in a place built for a robot."
Avery seemed much more… stable… than she did before. It was a relief to see, but he still felt a pinch of concern when she looked away. He couldn't see much of her face, but she seemed to be smiling.
"I didn't think it was possible, but your eyes are even more blue than yesterday."
Avery blinked and blushed, confused and unsure of how to respond. She turned back to face Dylan.
"R-really? They are?" she asked, reaching up to touch the area around one of her eyes.
"Yeah! They look like little oceans." Dylan said as they started for the stairs, "I guess the sleep and blood helped your eyes as well as your brain. You were all sorts of loopy last night, and giggly. As in out-of-the-blue sorta giggly. It was quite amusing."
He would've chuckled then, but he tripped over his own foot and landed with a thud on his side, nearly sliding down the stairs. He cursed, then began a small chuckle of his own, "Fuck, I think I might not be much better right now."
