@Mr.Misfit
Dylan reappeared then, looking down at her with a mix of sympathy and understanding, "That explains a few things. Dylan Sykes, a friend of Avery's." He held out his hand to her.
Dylan reappeared then, looking down at her with a mix of sympathy and understanding, "That explains a few things. Dylan Sykes, a friend of Avery's." He held out his hand to her.
Scarlet shook Dylan's hand. "Scarlet Westfield, one of Avery's best friends and teammates. It's nice to meet you, Dylan."
Avery raised an eyebrow at Dylan's sudden appearance, though she knew she should be used to it by now.
"Well, I think we've got a few questions for you Scarlet," she stated, looking at each person in the room before settling her gaze on her old friend. "Vaughn? Dylan? Anything you'd like to ask her?"
Vaughn clenched his jaw and nodded. “How did he get past you so easily? What did he say to you?” He asked, unable to hide the accidental sharpness of his tone.
Don't let his anger get to you, Avery directed her thoughts toward Scarlet, who had flinched a little at Vaughn's sharp tone. It's just how he is.
Biting her lip and seemingly staring at nothing, Scarlet answered Vaughn's questions, "I took Sam to the park not long after you guys dropped him off. We were playing 'hide and seek' and it was his turn to hide. I searched the entire playground, but I didn't find him. So, I extended the range of thoughts that I could hear and eventually heard some that sounded like Sam's, mixed with those of a man I didn't recognize. Of course, I raced after Sam as quickly as possible. I tried to get him away from the man, but, obviously, I didn't succeed." She gestured to herself, laying in the hospital bed with IVs stuck in her arms.
Vaughn’s head nodded slowly, and he took a deep, shuddering breath. God, why weren’t the windows open in here? This is a small room, he thought. “I-.. appreciate your efforts,” he said, a slight stammer in his tone, most likely caused by his breathing. He should have taken medicine for this before he left.
After giving Vaughn a slight nod, Scarlet looked to Avery. Avery, she transmitted. Seeing her friend's subtly surprised face, she thought, Calm down! I just learned how to do this! It's me, Scarlet.
Avery casually looked around the room, pretending that she wasn't having a silent conversation in her head. That's amazing, Scarlet! I'm so happy for you! What is it that you wanted?
What's wrong with Vaughn? His thoughts are… strange.
Um… He's got something that makes him act a little oddly. Why, what's he thinking?
I think he wants the windows opened.
Okay, thanks. I'll do that, Avery thought, making her way to a window and opening it, still outwardly silent. She sat down in the chair next to Scarlet's bed, then looked around the room again.
Vaughn watched carefully as the window was opened, and his shoulders seemed to relax. After a minute, he went over and sat on the windowsill, his head tilted toward the outdoors. His mind went to Sam as he sat quietly, the gruesome images of the body flashing in and out of his mind. He took a deep, slow breath of the fresh air.
Scarlet flinched as Vaughn's thoughts reached her mind. She tried to block them but to no avail. Blocking thoughts was her weakness; she could hear everyone's thoughts in a fairly wide radius if she opened her mind enough, otherwise, she only heard those closest to her, but she couldn't block them. It could get painful at times, especially if there were a lot of people near her.
Glancing at the girl by her side, Avery saw her squeeze her eyes shut. A pained look crossed Scarlet's face, and Avery bit her lip, not knowing how she could help.
Vaughn looked at the girl and frowned, the images leaving his mind for a moment he. It went to pure confusion. He had no clue what was wrong with the girl, and a small voice in the back of his mind told him not to care.
As the images left Vaughn's mind, they also left Scarlet's, and she let out a shaking sigh of relief.
You okay? Avery asked, giving Scarlet a concerned look.
Scarlet simply nodded in response, now opening her eyes.
"All right, I think we've got everything we needed to know. Unless you wanted to ask her something, Dylan?" Avery questioned, giving him a look that said they needed to leave. Now.
"No. I'm good. Thanks, Scarlet. Apologies for appearing on you."
He nodded to Avery, but a question entered his head just as he did.
Does she know Ashton?
"It's fine. I'm somewhat used to weird powers by now," Scarlet waved away Dylan's apology. After a moment she transmitted to him, And I don't know who that is, sorry.
Oblivious to the silent conversation between Scarlet and Dylan, Avery nodded and suggested that it was probably a good time to leave, then. They had important plans to make.
(Bumping.)
(Ah, I thought I responded to this earlier.)
Vaughn nodded and hopped off the windowsill, not quite wanting to leave the cool air that seeped through, but he remembered what Veronica had told him about making an effort to get along with these people. But, in his mind, getting along meant obedience. He was never fully taught how to be social, or how to get along with others, considering that’s something you learn growing up. But he didn’t get to have that for long, and it did leave his senses of perception a bit strange.
He blinked a few times and rubbed at his eyes, the contacts bothering him. He put the ‘glasses’ back on and fixed his white tshirt. He felt slightly exposed and vulnerable without something to cover the skin on his arms, and he rubbed at a small tattoo that was marked into his upper forearm.
With a small grin, Avery gently hugged Scarlet before motioning for the guys to follow her as she walked out of the room.
Vaughn stuffed his hands into the pockets of his trousers and followed Avery out, his head tilted down to make it harder to recognize him. He wanted to breathe a sigh of relief, glad to finally get out of the public eye.
Dylan vanished and followed the group out, nodding to Scarlet in silent thanks before he did so.
"Good luck!" Scarlet shouted as the trio walked out the door of her room. Don't die, please, Avery! We need our leader in one piece! she transmitted to her friend.
Why does everyone keep telling me that? Avery wondered as she walked out to the car.
Once they got to the car, Vaughn used the reflection to slip the auburn contacts out, his grey irises showing again. “I’m going to go blind one day,” he muttered to himself and stuffed the glasses away.
When Avery reached the car, she froze then spun to face Dylan and Vaughn, a questioning look on her face.
"Where the heck are we even going now?" she asked impatiently.
Vaughn blinked a few times and looked at Avery, frowning at her tone. “I suggest we pack up at the cabin, collect some things that may be useful.”
"Right… Okay, that sounds good," Avery agreed, nodding. With a sigh, she apologized, "Sorry, I'm just upset about Scarlet getting hurt. And confused." She moved to the driver's side and opened the door, speaking quietly, "I don't know how we're going to do this without Lenny…"
“It’s alright, I feel the same,” Vaughn murmured in response as he got in the back seat. As soon as he said that, the paranoid thoughts hit him like a truck, his breath catching in his throat. Voices scolded him internally, shaking him fir being emotional towards others.
(I don't know what to do…
Now would be a pretty good time for a Dylan post, though.)
(Yeah… I mean, if he doesn’t come on and impatience sets in, we can just say that he was in the car and they got back to the cabin)
