"Look," Avery said, motioning to the area around it. "It's the most secluded; there are no other markings around it for at least a hundred miles. It's slightly bigger and brighter than the others are. And it is strategically placed near a body of water."
Avery shrugged her shoulders. "And I just have a hunch about it."
Vaughn frowned softly in thought. “Could always be a trap,” he muttered, more to himself, really.
(I realized that Avery is currently the only girl in this RP, and she is also the youngest… Lol. She's also practically the leader.)
"That's true," Avery agreed with a nod. "But it's the best lead we have right now."
(Lmao Yeah)
Vaughn exhaled sharply and nodded slowly. “Alright, whatever you say.. should we pack?”
(What happened to Dylan's response? It totally made sense!)
(Okay, I'm just going to post now, then…)
"Not quite yet. I need to make a list of things we're going to need. Does anyone have paper and a pen or pencil?" Avery asked, handing Dylan the computer as she stood up. She paced the room, thinking about what they would need for the mission.
“I’ll find something..” Vaughn murmured in response. He walked into what could have been an office and dug through the drawers. His eyes glanced to photos on the desk, him being in most of them. He sighed and found what Avery needed, walking back into the living room.
When Vaughn came back with what she needed, Avery stopped in front of him.
"Thank you," she said, taking the paper and pen from him. Continuing her pacing, she started to write down a list.
- Suits and masks or exploring clothes
- Food and water
- Transportation
- Weapons
Vaughn hummed in response, moving over to the window. As he looked out it’s he thought that he should write Veronica and her family a thank you note. Maybe he should also clean up the place, get it ready for would come back over the summer. He knew he would be invited, they always invited him and the demon. Such safe people…
Dylan leaned back and looked over. "Anything else we need to know?" He asked.
Without stopping, Avery answered, "Yeah, actually. What do they have for security? It can't just be sitting there without some form of protection. There's gotta be something."
Dylan looked down at the computer again, rapid keystrokes and a slight smirk the only things changing about the mood. He slowed down, tapped the same key two more times, then hit enter. His eyes flipped back and forth as he read a long, tedious report listed as being from last week. His smirk grew into a long smile.
"None," he said, not looking up, "They haven't even found it yet. That place was actually listed as a low possibility area."
"So they don't have security around it?" Avery asked, walking over to Dylan. She sat down next to him and looked at the screen herself, skimming the information on it. "Huh. And they don't even think it's there… Why even mark it then?"
"Like I said, low possibility. It's the last place they'd expect to find it. They mapped out the area before hand, and…" Dylan stopped, then turned to Avery again, "Darlin", are you sure it's there? I mean, they have better equipment, resources, and plenty of time. I'm ready to just follow behind them, 'cause our chances of pointing to a dot and finding a miracle aren't as good as theirs."
Vaughn pushed away from the window and went back to the study. He sat in the chair and clicked a pen, a pad of paper out in front of him as he thought about what to write to the family. His eyes were trained on some of the photographs as he grew lost in thought.
Avery bit her lower lip as she looked the laptop.
Why would it be there? If they don't think it's there, why should we? she wondered.
Putting her head in her hands she groaned, "I don't know… I just have a feeling about it that I can't explain." She lifted her head, a look of confusion and conflicted thoughts crossing her face. "What if Vaughn's right?" she whispered. "What if it's a trap?"
Vaughn exhaled and began writing on the pad of paper in his usual, messy cursive .
Dylan thought it through. He wasn't a gut feeling kind of guy. Leaving his battles to chance was not his idea of fun. But Avery hasn't been wrong yet, and he trusted her more than he trusted himself, at this rate.
"I think you're right. It's there."
Avery let out a small sigh of relief and gave Dylan a small smile.
"Thanks," she started quietly, "for believing in me."
Dylan stared into Avery's eyes as he returned her smile, "No problem. We need to be on the same page, don't we?"
"Yeah… Thanks," she repeated herself softly. She looked down, suddenly feeling a little shy.
Vaughn finished the letter and tore it from the pad. He left the office and put it on the kitchen counter, beginning to clean up the counter tops and any unwashed dishes. He wanted it to be perfect for them. He wanted them to see how nice it looked when they came back.
(I'm going to be gone for like an hour, just so you guys know.)
