Avery cleared her throat to speak but decided that she didn't trust her own voice right then. Instead, she just tapped a message to Oscar, who relayed it to Dylan.

"Yes, Dylan?" the car asked, oddly polite at the moment.

@Mr.Misfit

(Relax, you're fine! I've just been super busy with school and shit. I'm not trying to ignore, nor is anyone else.)

(Lol. I figured. I'm doing school stuff, too.)

@Mr.Misfit

Dylan was about to remark that he had wanted to talk to Avery, not her car, but he thought the better of it and answered, "I was just thinking. We still have work to do. We need to go soon…"

Avery climbed out of the car from the passenger's side back seat, her eyes red from crying and cheeks flushed with a harsher emotion.

"How can you even be thinking of that at a time like this?" she exclaimed as she faced Dylan. "Our friend is probably dead, and you just want to continue with the mission?!?" She shook her head and started to walk away. "No. No, I don't know if I can do this."

@Mr.Misfit

Dylan followed her and gripped her shoulder, silently daring her to shake him off. He kept his tone civil, but he felt the edge in his own voice as he said, "You think I want to keep going? You think I enjoy this? Look at me for a second."

He knew his eyes were glowing. They were growing dim, he knew, but his palm and his hand were reflecting the rage in his lungs, in his heart. They could be seen.

"I don't want you to go, either. Losing Element just made me a helluva lot more aware that you can just as easily go. But she wants us to go."

Avery turned around, new tears had started to form in her eyes. Facing Dylan, she saw his hardened expression, his eyes glowing.

"Ele– Len– Ari… was my friend," she choked out, and a tear slipped down her cheek. "If she wanted me to go on… then I guess I can go on. For Ari."

@Mr.Misfit

"For Ari," Dylan nodded, loosening his grip on her shoulder. He searched Avery's face, and as the tears streamed down, his expression softened, "But not today. Too much has happened, and we need to get a plan together," he said, "Let's head back. We can rest up there."

With a nod, Avery let out a shaking breath and started towards the cabin. Stopping, she turned around and faced Dylan again.

"Thanks," she whispered, looking at her hands. "For not letting me go."

Vaughn was surprisingly relaxed now that he was out of the cabin. He had left a note that read..

Went out, will be back soon. -V

Along with the note, he left the address to the bar he was going to and his phone number. He had slipped out the back a few minutes earlier, taking a shortcut through the woods that led him to the main road where Veronica picked him up. He was now sitting on a bar stool, taking a quick shot. “I seriously needed this,” he said to the girl over the loud music.

@Mr.Misfit

Dylan couldn't say anything. He wasn't choking, he just couldn't bring himself to open his mouth. He nodded, and walked inside.

Avery followed Dylan inside, then walked to the kitchen. On the fridge was a note from Vaughn, which she quickly ripped off and read.

"Dang it, Vaughn," she cursed under her breath.

@Desvelarse pets

“Yeah, well, we haven’t gotten to hang out in a while, Finley! Now that you’re buddy-buddy with a different group, I’ve been so bored!” Veronica complained.

Vaughn almost choked on his vodka at that. “You’re joking, right? The only thing I know about them really is their names. We are hardly friends. Besides, they don’t like me, so why should I make the effort?”

“You’re probably just acting like an asshole,” she said in a matter-of-fact tone.

“You know I can’t help it, Roni,” he sighed.

@Mr.Misfit

Dylan read the note, considering whether or not to go after him. Vaughn wasn't exactly open to outside friends, and hadn't been the most connected of individuals. And he had been dragged half of the way. But he also had offered a place for Dylan and his friends to stay, and had fought beside them. Along with Avery, Dylan knew he would need Vaughn by his side in order to win.

Dylan thought against it, trusting Vaughn to come back. Instead he sat down for a bit, his eyes beginning to droop from exhaustion.

Avery paced the hallway, thinking about what she was supposed to do. First my friend runs off and gets herself killed, then another one of my teammates runs off to who-knows-where. We have a mission to complete, and I would rather mourn my friend, but Dylan was right, this is what she'd want me to do. She would want me to complete the mission, to find Xelnarin and stop the Fl– and stop Mutuwa.
