Klaus smiled sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. "Yeah….sorry about that."
Klaus smiled sheepishly, rubbing the back of his neck. "Yeah….sorry about that."
She chuckled. "No, it's alright." She ducked out, going to her own room and closing the door. She came back after a few minutes wearing a pale blue t shirt. "Alright. Now we can go."
He slid his hands into his pockets and walked out of the room with her, smiling to himself. Klaus was clearly opening up more and more each passing minute he spent with Jay. The fact that she may or may not be human didn't even concern him. She looked the part, acted the par, and had the same organs (he thinks) as him, so it was fine for him.
"Where do you wanna go?" he asked, "I got my wallet with me."
Jay blinked, then shrugged. "I…you pick." She replied. "I haven't been to many, so…" She shrugged again. Her hair was loose now, hanging down to her shoulders in loose curls.
"What type of food you like, then?" he asked as they reached the exit. He didn't have a card, so he couldn't unlock the door.
Jay pulled her ID from her pocket, opening the doors. "There. Uhm…" She shrugged. "Italian. Cheeseburgers. I'm good with anything but raw meat." She chuckled softly, glancing over at him for a moment.
He pushed the door open, frowning as he thought of any restaurants in the area. "Um…..I got, like, 20 bucks, so we might just have to get McDonald's or some shit like that."
She chuckled softly, and nodded. "Alright, that's fine." She dug in her wallet. "I have money too, though. We could pool our resources?" She looked up at him, wrinkling her nose a little bit.
He shook his head. "Nah, I'll be on me. It was my idea, after all."
Klaus had lied about the amount of money he had. In reality, he had well over 200 bucks in his wallet. He hoped that taking her somewhere cheep like McDonald's would make it feel like less of a date.
She nodded, putting her wallet away. "Oh. Okay." She shrugged a little. "Nearest one is…do you need me to direct you there?" She asked, tucking her hands in her pockets.
"Yeah, that would help," he admitted, cringing slightly. Everything just felt….awkward. Forced, even. It could be just 'cause he didn't really know how to talk to girls or the feeling of being watched was throwing him off, but he felt uncomfortable in his own skin as they walked towards the fast-food joint.
Jay nodded. "This way." She pointed down the street, leading him along. "So uhm…tell me something about you." She said slowly, trying to make small talk.
"There ain't much I haven't already told you," he said with a shrug. "The only thing I haven't is that I dropped out of high school to be a hero."
Why the fuck did you tell her that? he thought, cringing. Now you just look dumb.
Ahren nodded. "Alright. Send me the address. I'll meet you there…does today work for you?" He asked. He didn't have anything on his schedule today, so he could meet whenever.
"Today is fine. How do you feel about kids? I'll need to bring my brothers." Teddy stood up, looking at his email. "Nevermind, I got a sitter for them. I'll be there in less than an hour." He sent the address of the cafe through texting. "I'll see you then German boy."
Jay blinked. "Hm. Well, since I never went to school…" She shrugged. "Not gonna judge." She had her hands tucked into her pockets as she walked.
Ahren nodded. "Alright. I'll see you." He hung up, and looked at the address. It was maybe a ten minute walk from where he was. He started walking.
Teddy walked into the living room. "Hey kiddos, one of my friends is going to watch y'all while I go to a quick meeting, alright?" He called to his brothers, them nodding in response. "It'll probably be an hour, but I've got to go." He hummed, locking the door behind him and headed to his car, starting it and driving to the cafe.
Ahren walked into the cafe, ordered, and sat down at a table, rolling the coin over his knuckles again and looking about as bored as bored could be. He hummed softly.
Teddy walked in, looking around for a moment before sitting down next to Ahren. "Hello, I'm CardMaster, you can call me Teddy." He hummed as he slipped into the booth.
Ahren looked up, and nodded. "Alright." he replied, tucking the coin away. "Nice to meet you in person, Teddy." he folded his hands together, studying the other male for a long minute.
"So Fury let you go without anyone to watch you?" Klaus asked, glancing over at Jay.
She nodded slowly. "Yes." She shrugged a little bit. "And before you ask, no, I don't know why." she ran a hand through her hair, the blonde curls falling into her face a little.
Ahren looked up, and nodded. "Alright." he replied, tucking the coin away. "Nice to meet you in person, Teddy." he folded his hands together, studying the other male for a long minute.
"So," He started, resting his head on the back of his hand. "Tell me what you've found and maybe I'll help." Teddy raised an eyebrow.
"Well, it's a programming weakness in the SHIELD database, in addition to a new operation." Ahren replied, looking at Teddy. "The operation is the beginnings of a new team of superheroes, who all appear to be young adults. Using the programming weakness, I can get my name into their system, and infiltrate the team. I should also be able to get myself into a position of leadership, where I can take them down from the inside."
"Hmmmm, would two people on the team happen to be a Jay Rodgers and a Lane Parker?" He asked, a glimmer of interest in his eyes as Teddy watched the other. "I've been doing some research into those two."
She nodded slowly. "Yes." She shrugged a little bit. "And before you ask, no, I don't know why." she ran a hand through her hair, the blonde curls falling into her face a little.
He blushed slightly and went back to looking straight ahead. Fuck, she's a lot prettier when she isn't beating the shit outta me.
"What are you gonna get?" Klaus asked, distracting himself from the thoughts.
