"Um, once," Lillian responded after a moment of thought, "I wasn't very good though."

"Chess," Darren continued, "is about being ahead of your opponent. If you learn to anticipate my next move, you can counter it."

"And if I can't?" Lillian would have been silent, but she couldn't help but voice her doubts.

"You get chopped," Darren said a bit sarcastically. "But it's not too hard. Here… tell be what I'm about to do to you," Darren stepped toward her with the sword raised above his head. This was a clear overhead strike.

"Overhead strike," Lillian replied with just as much sarcasm while moving her own blade to block it. She knew he wouldn't actually do it right now, but she would go through motions anyway.

"Perfect… You knew what I was going to do and moved your blade to block it. Defensive maneuvers will save your life,"

"Is that why's the saying the best offense is a good defense?" Lillian asked him.

"Well yeah. If you're only focused on taking a stab at your enemy, you leave yourself open to attack… Which brings me to my next point, you should try your best to turn yourself so your side is facing our opponent, it makes you a smaller target,"

"Smaller than I already am?" Lillian responded with a slight quip attempting to follow his advice.

Darren chuckled, "yeah, I didn't think it was possible either,"

"I really don't think it would be possible," Lillian replied with a little laugh.

"I really don't think it would be possible," Lillian replied with a little laugh.

"The next tip is power but you have to remember that power only works if it's directed in the right places. So find your opponents weak point and strike there,"

"Got it," Lillian said for a moment before pausing, "And I'm guessing I find that through observation?"

"Mostly, yes," Darren agreed. "They'll likely guard their weakness more. Nonetheless, everyone, even 8 foot demons, have one,"

"I find that unlikely, but sure," Lillian shrugged for a moment.

"Well… Don't worry about hurting me but, find my weakness," Darren knew she didn't know about his left knee that he injured sophomore year playing football. When he stood in his 'fighting stance', he kept it tucked behind his other leg as far from the opponent as he could get it. He also had protected his his midsection (as does everyone) as a trauma response to that one time the boi get stabbed there.
