"See give yourself some credit your doing a good thing you should be proud."
"See give yourself some credit your doing a good thing you should be proud."
“I am. I'm proud of it, I'm just not used to being complimented for it. It's kind of more of an unsung hero thing.” he shrugged. “We do the job but don't get noticed or much credit from the public.”
"Well you should because if you don't do it who will? "
Marcus smiled gently, nodding. “That's why I do it. Because not enough people will.”
"Im glad you do " she smiled back at him sweetly
Marcus blushed again and shook his head. “Alright, enough about me for now. What do you do? I mean, what’s your job back in London?”
"Oh um I work in a pastry shop it's not a heroic as cleaning the ocean but I like it."
“Oooh… That sounds interesting. Do you bake then?” he asked before chuckling a little. “Uhh, the beach thing isn't my actual job. I work at the local gym.” he explained.
"Yes I bake quite a bit actually, and I know cleaning the beach isn't your job but even your job is more interesting than mine. "
“I disagree. You have a talent. Whenever I try to bake, even box mixes, something comes out wrong.” he admitted, laughing at his lack of skill. “Though I have watched a couple episodes of a British baking show and some of the stuff they make is pretty interesting.”
Maria's face flushed "well I don't know about talent but I'm not horrible at it. "
“Well, that's better than I’ll ever be.” he chuckled, knowing that it wasn't hard to be worse than he was. “I mean, I can cook. But I'm just no good at using an oven for anything other than fish sticks and potatoes.”
" fish sticks and potatoes? That's an odd thing to put an oven well the fish sticks not the potatoes, it's really not that hard tho it's pretty simple. "
“I meant potatoes in a general way. There's a couple different ways to make potatoes in the oven.” he explained before realizing what she said. “Oh! I… Uh, fish sticks are actually pretty popular. Kids love them. It's just a strip of white fish breaded and the oven makes it nice and crispy.”
"Um ew. " she couldn't help but laugh at her tone and covered her mouth
Marcus laughed with her. “It's actually better than it sounds. I probably didn't explain it right.” he said, apologetically. “It's kind of an American staple.”
"Of course it is why am I not surprised, erm I mean… I just um heh that's not how I meant that. "
“No, no. It's ok.” he laughed. “You're entitled to your opinions. And I can imagine how some American food sounds to you. There are some British foods that I heard of, but can't remember the names of right now, that I thought sounded weird.”
"I'm not surprised about that either some of of our foods are words. "
“Well, I guess it is only fair for me to say that I think some American food is weird too. Though the weirdest thing about it is the fact that a lot of the popular foods, didn't even originally start in America.” he admitted.
"Oh really like what. '' Maria felt like a child asking all these questions but she couldn't help it she was to curious
“Well, like… Apple pie. People love it here and have it on national holidays but really it originally came from… either the Dutch or maybe Germany… I'm not sure which.”
"It actually originated from England. ' she said with a smirk and sipped her drink
“Oh! Really? I could have sworn it was the Dutch…” he murmured thoughtfully but he wouldn't be surprised if he was wrong.
She shrugged her shoulders "At least that's what my grandmother told me but she could have been wrong who knows. "
