Davy's smile widened. "Great! We really appreciate it. If you have info for us, you can ask anybody in the shanty town we went through for me, and they'll rustle me up." He started off towards camp. "Now we'd better get you two back before they take role call or somethin'. Wouldn't want you to get in trouble on your first day, eh?"
Ellen nodded. "Your group have a name or anything?"
"Our code name in camp is The Weather. If someone comes to you askin' for a weather report, they'll want information on Sabrino. If you don't think it's safe to talk, tell 'em the radio's broken. Alright? Pretty basic, but it works. You'll know our real name when you come join us."
They reached the fence and, after checking to make sure no one was watching, Davy slipped them back inside. "Keep me posted. Good luck with your plan, and let me know if you need any help!" With a cheery wave, he ghosted off between the tents and out of sight.
Vin took a deep breath. "Well…that was weird."
"Yup. I'm not sure how I feel bout him. Should we head back to the main building?"
"Sure. I hope Lennie didn't freak out or anything when he realized we were gone."
"Yeah." Ellen said, walking into the main building.
"I also hope they have more food for us soon. "I'm starv–" He stopped himself and laughed ruefully. "Sorry. I should probably explain that I kind of have an eating disorder where my metabolism works super fast. It's genetic or something, I think. Anyway, I need a lot of food all the time, especially when I'm being this active and staying in such a cold place. In the desert, at least I didn't burn energy as fast."
Ellen nodded. "Interesting." They turned down a hall. "Wonder where Allman is?" She muttered.
"Um…..?" Vin looked around. "Maybe he went off to look for us somewhere else. We really should have told him where we were going."
"Yeah…" Ellen agreed, peering down a hall.
A soldier walked by and stopped, giving them an odd look. "Um, you guys are new recruits, right? Aren't you supposed to be at the orientation right now?"
"Yeeeaahhh." Ellen said, nodding slowly, trying to come up with an excuse. "We got separated from the group and have been trying to find the right place."
The woman narrowed her eyes. "Go back to the first door and go through the foyer to the main room. Don't wander off again, or I'll assume you're up to something. Clear?"
"Yes ma'am." Ellen turned and waked toward the right door.
"That was close," Vin said as the entered the main room. "We should probably be more careful not to draw attention to ourselves."
(I gotta go have supper, and then I may not be on for the rest of the night. Seeya later sometime! ^^)
"Definitely." Ellen agreed.
(See ya!)
(Hi, sorry I haven't been on. I have to go in like two minutes but I'm leaving this here for later)
The weathered officer was still at the front of the room, in the middle of a speech about their duties. "…..to serve our country is the greatest honor, and we must do all we can to protect our freedom and our people." His voice was dull and emotionless. He didn't even look at the recruits as he spoke. "The enemy is near, and danger is all around us. But we will not cower like children–we will rise up and show those fools the meaning of bravery. While you are here, behave decorously, respect authority, and carry out your orders to the letter. Victory is in our hands, and all we have to do is take hold of it." He sat back with a pained breath and pulled his injured arm closer to his chest. "Wait here. You will be introduced to your superior officers next. All further directions will be from them." Standing, he limped off to one side and out through one of the room's many doors.
(Hey guys! How's it going? I'm leaving for a trip tomorrow, and won't be back til next tuesday at least. See y'all next week!)
