Ellen nodded, smiling a bit.
Ellen nodded, smiling a bit.
"Ah, Colorado," Lennie said with a sigh. "How I love it there. Woulda lived there if not for my job."
"What was your job?" Vin inquired.
"I was a…security force member," Lennie replied. "Call it special forces if you want. Our base was in Arizona, and though we traveled a lot, that was home."
Vin raised his eyebrows. "Woah, now I see why our team's special. You've actually got experience with this kind of thing?"
"Not with war, no," Lennie said. "But yeah, I've been in my fair share of fights and bad situations."
"Huh. Okay." Vin glanced at Ellen. "What about you, Ellen? What did you do before the drafting?"
"I was training to be a technician." Ellen said, playing with the ties on her bag.
"Huh," Lennie said. "That's a valuable career path, I commend you."
"Nice. Seems like we have a pretty balanced team, all in all. There's the brains–" He nodded at Ellen. "–the brawn–" He grinned at Lennie. "–and me. The….heart? I don't know. I aced the emergency first-aid tests, so maybe I should be the team medic."
Ellen chuckled. "Sounds good to me."
"Fair!" Lennie laughed. "I think we'll be okay."
"Great! Also, since we're on the subject, I think we should have a better name than Team 300 or whatever. Any ideas?"
"Team W.A.R.? That's the first letter of our last names combined." Ellen shrugged. "Kind of stupid though."
"Uhhhhh," Lennie said. "I um. Ah. Yeah, I have no idea. Maybe like Team Not-gonna-put-up-with-y'all's-trash?"
"Actually, I like Weaver's idea," Lennie added. "I sounds cool to me."
"Hmm. That is pretty cool, actually. I'm down." He grinned. "High-five, Team W.A.R.!"
Ellen grinned too, accepting the high-five.
Lennie slapped his palm against Vin's, grinning. "Awesome."
"Now I guess we wait, and try not to die." Vin glanced wistfully at the sky outside. "I hope they give us something to eat at some point, I'm starving."
Ellen nodded. "Hope they have coffee in some form."
"Oh, to have some coffee," Lennie sighed. "Probably just ration packs for us."
He wasn't wrong. A guard wordlessly handed them out, along with forks and other eating utensils.
"Yay," was Lennie's only comment.
Vin looked at his meal dejectedly. "Ugh. These things have no nutritional value. I'd do anything for some fresh fruit right about now."
"Yeah." Ellen muttered, scrutinizing the food. "What is this even?"
"You know, I don't want to know," Lennie said. "Hold your breath, it'll dampen the taste."
