Vin's ration was already gone. "Or just eat it really fast, apparently, that works too."
Vin's ration was already gone. "Or just eat it really fast, apparently, that works too."
"Or that," Lennie agreed, beginning the charge on his own meal.
Ellen nodded, managing to wolf down her rations. "Does anyone else think the water taste kind of metallic?" She asked, taking a cautious sip of water.
Vin frowned at the water dubiously. "Might just be the container, although that's not very reassuring either. You know, I brought some water purifying tablets from home. Not a lot, but it might be worth it to use them."
"Yeah." She set down the canteen.
Vin rummaged in his bag and pulled out a bottle of small white tablets. He dropped one in each canteen and returned the bottle to its special pocket. "Give it a minute. It should improve the taste too."
"Thanks." Ellen said, watching the tablet dissolve.
"Thanks, pal," Lennie said. "Always happy to not get water contamination poisoning."
"No problem," Vin replied. "We should probably save them, though. Who knows what we'll be dealing with out there."
"Yeah." Ellen muttered, swishing the bottle before taking an experimental sip. Not too bad now. "Crazy crap more then likely."
"Yeah. Once we get to the camp, each of us should start stealing resources and compiling supplies," Lennie said contemplatively. "We'll try to make a break for it as soon as we have enough stuff to survive. We should be able to loop up through Canada and head back down towards Washington safely enough."
Ellen cracked her knuckles. "Shouldn't be too hard." That is a bold lie and you know it Ellen.
"I don't know about stealing, but I'm really good at hiding stuff," Vin piped up. "Just channel the stuff to me and I'll stash it away."
Ellen nodded. "Maybe we should talk more about this when we're somewhere a bit more secluded." She said, gesturing to their general surroundings.
(Unless they're in compartments? Or is it like a bus? Idk, I've never been on a train)
(Yeah, they're in compartments >w<)
"Yeah, until then, we should get some rest," Lennie recommended, sliding down in his seat. "Imma take a nap, wake me up if anything happens."
"Okay. G'night." Ellen shifted in her seat, shivering slightly.
"Think I'll get some rest too." Vin stretched and did a good job of at least looking comfortable. "Night."
You were woken by a guard shaking your shoulders.
"Come on, get up," she said. "We're here."
Lennie yawned and stretched, getting to his feet and ambling after her. "All right, guys, showtime."
Ellen grumbled, stretching. "I can safely say that I've had better naps."
Vin patted her shoulder and picked up his backpack. "At least now we might get to stretch our legs a bit. I'm lowkey about to explode right now from lack of exercise."
"Mm. You can say that again." She said, shouldering her duffel bag.
As you disembarked the train, you saw the tell-tale signs of an encampment: tents set up, a makeshift fence for keeping enemies out and friendlies in, a training area set up next to the entrance.
Vin took a deep breath of the fresh air. "I wonder if we'll have to do anything right way, or if they'll give us some time off first."
"Cozy." Ellen muttered. "Dunno. Guess we'll find out."
You were guided in, and directed to your tents, which were right next to each other. The guard told you to dump your stuff, then follow her to the main construct; a ramshackle hall of sorts thrown together with wood-scraps. Inside, the other squads that had been sent with you were filing in. One person stood in the middle of the room waiting for everyone to gather. He had a grim face, covered in scars and his right arm was in a sling.
