Jax reached for a biscuit and pulled down her mask, nibbling at her food a little bit. She never had much of an appetite, considering that her stomach wasn't used to eating regularly.
"Storms are exciting, aren't they? It makes me wanna go on an adventure!" Jax giggled. "Being a pirate is more fun than I thought!"
"I'm perfect," she said, bumping her shoulder against Shawn's. She sank her teeth into another biscuit. Wow, they were good. "How do you feel about this storm? I'm not sure what to feel."
This poor child. If only she knew. Lio thought. Pirateing could be adventurous, sure, but it was far from fun. This was one of these times that he kicked himself for letting a child on board, but it's not like they could go back now.
"Riiight. Well, you'll certainly get enough adventure in storm season. We shouldn't dock at one place for too long. Draws attention, you know how it is." he settled for focusing on the destination rather than the journey, so to speak.
Giving a thumbs up, he turned to the barrel and glasses. "Everything should be fine Lio, you know the crew and Chimera will make it out just fine.", the cook assured. Pouring two glasses, he handed the first one to Captain Lio before handing the other to Allison. Rael got out other glasses then started to pour some ale in as people came over.
Rael beamed as he heard Shawn, he couldn't help give a small bow. "Oh thank you, I am glad you enjoy it!", he chirped. He went back to the barrel and poured himself a glass. Usually he didn't eat or drink till everyone else was done, but a little glass of ale shouldn't hurt.

Shawn shrugged. "I don't know. I like storms but I usually don't get sleep. Plus there's a downside to this one. I have barely slept last night and Im tired. I usually don't sleep in storms…" He repeated again but then getting cut off by a yawn. "I was working on something but I messed up so it's just another scrap piece in my extra pile…"
(Okay, just to confirm, we've made Rainy first mate/quartermaster and she's training Jax to be a doctor? Just wanna confirm.)
"Oh, babe, that's awful." She rummaged around in her medical bag, withdrawing a tightly screwed jar of tablets. "These are melatonin tablets. All natural. They'll help ya sleep."
(Also to help people keep with a general theme, this is kinda like Victorian-era-y to Industrial Revolution-y with a huge steam/diesel-punk sky island magical edge.)
"Oh, babe, that's awful." She rummaged around in her medical bag, withdrawing a tightly screwed jar of tablets. "These are melatonin tablets. All natural. They'll help ya sleep."
Shawn looked at it and smiled. "Thank you, Rainy. You were a big help ever since I came" He yawned and finished eating and smiled again. "Im off to work on one more thing and then ill go to sleep… Or try?"
Andre had headed back up to check on the steering, making sure that the ship would be alright unattended for a little while longer. He came back downstairs, tying his curly dark hair back in a bun to keep it out of the way, moving to grab some food from the kitchen. He completely ignored everyone else, focused on the food.
Jax turned to Shawn. "How can't ya sleep in storms? The rain's going pitter-patter and the ship's rocking like a cradle!" She took another small bite of her biscuit, and turned to Andre as he entered.
"G'morning, Andre! Your hair's nice!"
Andre blinked at her, and cracked a smile. "Thanks, Jax." he replied, stuffing a bite of food down his throat as he devoured his breakfast.
(do y'all think Rainy's pet name "babe" works for the setting or should i choose something else)
Rainy took a dainty sip of the ale and immediately made a face. Nope, still not for her. She turned to Jax. "Jax, did you hear what I said about melatonin? I'm sure you're familiar, but I wanted to make sure."
"Yeah, I know! I used to give small amounts to my brother when he couldn't sleep 'cause of the fighting!" Jax's grin faded, but made its way back. "Only small amounts, though, because he was ten, right?"
Rainy felt a small pang of sadness knot in her chest, and she wasn't sure if it belonged to her or to Jax. She'd always hated how fast Jax had had to grow up, and she was determined to make space for Jax to be a kid for a while longer, even if it meant she'd have to take on some extra work for a few years. She smiled wide, giving Jax a big thumbs up. "Exactly, well done! The calculations are pretty simple. It all has to do with body weight and size."
Jax giggled. "Thanks! I'm gonna be a great doctor, right? Because you're teachin' me!" The girl sprung up from her seat, assuming an exaggerated fighting stance. "And I'll be a strong pirate too! 'cause I can fight! Enemies will cower in terror at the mighty Jax!" She giggled again and sat down, nibbling at her biscuit some more.
"You're the best doctor, and the best-est pirate," Rainy agreed, laughing at the younger girl's antics. "You can do anything you put your mind to. The mighty and unstoppable Jax."
Andre let out a faint chuckle at Jax's assertion. "Well, I think we'll have to work on your swordplay some more, then. If you want to be such a fearsome pirate." he said, taking a sip of his coffee.
"Im a pro at swordplay if you ever need help. Just saying…"
"Hopefully you won't need to use any swordsmanship you learn." Lio said, worry washing over his features just briefly. "If we're all finished, we should be less than an hour away from our destination, although with all the clouds it might not look it. Let's go." he said, downing the rest of his drink and shoveling the last few bites of food into his mouth.
Rainy sobered up at Lio's serious expression. She rummaged in her bag again, withdrawing a piece of parchment. "I've made a list of things we need at the next port. If you need anything, let me know and I'll add it."
Rael sent aside a little plate for himself before getting into the next exciting phase of the day, cleaning. Hearing Lio snapped him out of daydreaming, he didn't want to run behind schedule or be late for when they dock. Shoving a biscuit in his mouth, he picked up the barrel before setting it in it's usual corner. Whatever left over biscuits there were, the cook just left them there for the time being; Rael wouldn't care if people took more. "Does anyone need anything before I start cleaning up?", he asked.
At the clang of the bell, Carsyn pulled herself from Rainy's office and slipped into the kitchen, as quiet as a mouse. Conversation flowed all around her, and she listened attentively with her head down. The conversation and food distracted her from the storm, at least for the time being, and she was quick to inhale the food she had. An old habit she had unfortunately adopted from her time as a slave—very little time for breaks meant she knew how to use her time wisely. Lio's face and statement had her perking her head up and tilting her head. Fully at attention and ready to be helpful, momentarily forgetting about the weather that was going on around them.
