"This might be a stupid question… but why do all those cabins look like a five year old designed them?" Miles asked as he and Viva walked out of the pavilion.
"This might be a stupid question… but why do all those cabins look like a five year old designed them?" Miles asked as he and Viva walked out of the pavilion.
Sienne ran up to the pair walking around the camp, "Can I join?" she signed, hoping one of them knew ASL.
Miles watched her make the movements, and tried to decipher it. He only knew a little sign language from when his grandmother went deaf a month before she died. It seemed like a month was enough for him to know that the girl had asked to join. He nods at her.
Sienne was elated. She walked on the other side of the boy, "You know ASL?" she signed.
Danni walked up to Miles, she spoke in the most deadpan and flat voice possible, "Because I'm pretty sure a five year old did. Hi, Danni Jones, daughter of Hades, delighted to meet you."
Sienne looked at the girl, "Hi, Danni!" she signed, "Do you know ASL?" Sienne wanted to know who in camp could understand her. She made a mental note to buy a notepad and pencil so she could always communicate with the other campers.
"Yeah." Danni signed back,
Arianna came back and joined the small group that had formed. "Are you all new campers?" She asked.
"I am," Sienne signed, then, remembering she couldn't understand her, nodded her head. She pointed to the new kid to say he was too.
Ari nodded. Then she signed, I do know sign language, sorry if you thought I didn't. Like I said earlier, my brain processes things differently.
"Oh, ok! Easier for me!" Sienne signed.
Ari smiled. "So," She said to the other campers. "I can show you around if you want." She signed it as she said it.
"You don't need to sign," Sienne signed, "I can read lips fine. If I need you to sign I'll just ask."
Ari nodded. "Okay. Sounds good."
Sienne followed the girl, just realizing she hadn't learned her name yet, "What's your name? I'm Sienne," she signed.
"My name's Arianna, but everyone just calls me Ari." Arianna explained. "What cabin are you?"
"I'm from the Hades cabin" Sienne replied, "How about you, Ari?"
"Poseidon. So I guess that technically makes us cousins." Ari said with a smile.
"Cool!" Sienne signed. After they walked for a while, she noticed a building and some campers walking out with weapons, "What weapons do you use?"
"I can use a wide variety, but I prefer bow and arrow or a sword." Ari told Sienne.
Lewis recognized Sienne and Ari from earlier, and he carefully approached. He saw another new camper was with them and was interested. Why all of a sudden had so many new kids come?
He introduced himself to Miles and asked, "Will you be staying in the Hermes cabin, too? Or have you been claimed already?"
He decided to let his mind wander away from the prophecy and what it might have been.
Danni rejoined the conversation she didn't realize she had left, "I use a sword."
"Hermes cabin?" Miles questioned, since he had no idea what they were talking about. "And a bow and arrow? Can't you just use a gun?"
"Okay… so you really don't know much of anything yet," Lewis replied, "That's fine. We were all in your shoes once. So, I'm sure you've been told about how one of your parents was a god or goddess, yes? Well, sometimes, you don't get to know who it is right away. One of the cabins you saw out in the middle of the camp is the cabin of Hermes, the messenger god. His children all live there, as well as those who don't know who their parent is yet, or kids like me who have a non-Olympian parent. Hermes is also the god of travelers, and he is a hospitable god, I should say, so he takes the rest of us in. As for weapons? We're more like the Ancient Greeks. There's no need to upgrade to guns when our weapons do just fine. Besides, celestial bronze, which is a substance that kills monsters, is best used forged into a hand weapon or arrows. Now, of course, I much prefer to use my cutting wit as a weapon, though some days a blade will do just as well."
"I think I'll sit out for the slashy slashy things," Miles says. "I'll use my charisma to persuade people to my will. Or something."
