"Oh, hello Jack. I'm here for Paige. She has an interview scheduled soon," Mrs. Turner briefly explained.
"Oh, hello Jack. I'm here for Paige. She has an interview scheduled soon," Mrs. Turner briefly explained.
"Oh," Jack blinked a few times, "She left not that long ago. Decided to head home to get ready."
Mrs. Turner was skeptical. "Did she? Then I would have seen her when I was driving here, wouldn't have I, Jack?"
"One of my parents took her," Jack explained, "So you wouldn't have seen her unless you lookes through every window that passed you, Mrs. Turner."
"Well then. Was it your mother or your father?" Mrs. Turner asked evenly.
Paige laid on Jack's bed, breathing in his scent and trying to stay calm.
"Father," Jack was quick in his response, "Don't have a mom."
"Oh. I see. Well, I'll be going to make sure that they made it safely. Goodbye, Jack." Mrs. Turner grandly made her way back to her car.
"Goodbye," Jack shut the door behind him and locked it. He rushed up to his room and knocked three times.
Paige quickly unlocked and opened the door.
Jack ran and hugged her. He held Paige close.
"Is she gone?" Paige asked into his shoulder.
“Yeah,” Jack let out a sigh of relief, “She’s gone.”
"What did you say to her?" She couldn't hep but ask.
“To go away and never come back,” he lied to her. She didn’t need to know what was actually said.
"Liar." Her voice was so muffled though, that she wasn't sure if he even heard.
He chuckled, “Well why do you want to know? She’s gone.”
"I'm a naturally curious person."
“Okay then,” Jack grinned, “I said something to tgat effect.”
"Liar," Paige said with a teasing frown.
Jack looked at her with a raised eye brow, "And how would you know?"
"My gut tells me that you are lying. And I believe it." She giggled
"Well don't," Jack laughed, "I'm not."
At least not a total lie.
"Fine," she said reluctantly. She gently kissed him and whispered into his mouth, "I trust you."
Jack smiled was genuine, "Thank you," he kissed her back.
Paige stayed close in his embrace. She knew that he would undoubtedly protect her, so she didn't - wouldn't - fear anything.
