Arria blushed a little, “Thank-you.” He muttered, running his hands through Carters hair gently.
Arria blushed a little, “Thank-you.” He muttered, running his hands through Carters hair gently.
Carter hummed pleasantly, happy until- His phone started to ring, breaking into their moment like lightning on a tree.
Arria frowned and sighed, “What is that?” He asked quietly, upset that whatever it was had ruined the moment.
Carter sighed, standing and walking to the phone as he explained, “It’s a telephone, human’s can use it to make long distance calls.” Carter saw it was Breigha. He gave an apologetic look to Arria, then answered.
“Hello? Sorry for calling you this late, Carter. I didn’t even think you’d be up.”
“Breigha, I’m kinda busy, what do you want?”
“Busy? Do you mean with that guy Arria? Oh my gosh, Carter!” Breigha squealed on the other end, and Carter rolled his eyes.
“Breigha, I’m not- No, I am definitely not doing what you assume. I’m working on schoolwork, what do you want?”
“Well, my friends and I need a place to spend the night since our parents won’t stand for us getting home this late, and I figured you’d house is always so empty,” Breigha drawled, “So we’ll see you in a few!”
“Bre-“ She hung up before Carter could protest farther. Carter sighed, setting the phone down angrily.
Arria sat up straighter on the couch and looked at Carter, “What’s wrong, Carter?” He asked, furrowing his brows a little as he looked at the other.
“Breigha coming over with her friends to spend the night,” Carter explained with a frown at the phone. He walked back to the couch and sat down, the frown still on his face, “We should probably take you back then…” Arria probably wouldn’t want to meet Breigha and her friends. Who knows how many people who are coming with her, either…
Arria frowned at Carter and crossed his arms, "But I don't want to go back. Why can't I meet your friends properly? You met mine…" He said, looking away from him with a sigh.
“Are you sure? I don’t know how many are coming with her…” Carter trailed off, looking out his window. It’d hopefully just be a few. Carter looked back at Arria while he chewed on his lip, “If you want to stay, then I’d love it.”
Arria released a breath and looked back at Carter, "I do want to stay but I don't want to intrude to much. If you don't want me here while your friends are then I can leave…"
“No, I’d love it if you stayed,” Carter responded immediately, taking Arria’s hands in his, “But they can get a little… over the top sometimes, so I just want you to know that it’ll be a bit much in case you don’t want to stay for that.” Carter told him, doodling circles on the back of Arria’s hand with his thumb.
Arria nudged him with his hip playfully, a smile returning to his face, "Carter, I've been friends with Gallion for majority of my life, he's the definition of 'over the top', I think I'll be able to handle them." He kissed his cheek, "But… I'll tell you if it's too much, promise."
“Alright. Just say the word and I can drive us back to the-“ Carter stopped short when he saw a car pull up in his driveway, the music pounding inside of it. Then another car, then a truck with a group of people in the back, then yet anchor truck that mirrored it. Carter’s jaw fell as Breigha’s friends all started pouring into his backyard. Someone started playing music as Breigha walked through the front door without knocking.
“Ayye! Carter and Arria!” She greeted loudly, grinning, “Come join the fun, LGBT safe space!” She called with a knowing look. She looked drunk.
Arria huffed a laugh at the drunken girl, "She's drunk, isn't she? She reminds me of some of the people I've seen at the beach before." He muttered to Carter, giving him an amused smile.
“Yeah, probably,” Carter stood up with a laugh, pulling Arria up with him with a smile, “I suppose we should go meet everyone, then, though.” People were already starting to file in, one of them bringing in punch. Carter grabbed a cup for both him and Arria, smiling at his sea boy.
Arria took the cup from Carter and frowned down at it, "What's this?" He asked quietly as he looked up at Carter then down at the cup.
“Just a tasty juice kinda thing,” Carter said sipping his own. The living room was started to become crowded, despite how most of the party was out on the lawn. Breigha was out there, dancing like crazy with some of her friends.
"You weren't wrong when you said she was over the top." Arria said, taking a sip of the drink as he looked around the room at everyone, then everyone else out on the lawn, "Parties back home aren't that much different though."
“Really? I didn’t know-“ Carter cut himself off before he could say merpeople in such a crowded space, “I didn’t know your people had parties like this,” Carter grabbed Arria’s hand and led him out to the lawn, swaying a little with the music. Breigha came up to them, a little tipsy, “Hey boys! Isn’t this fun?”
Arria nodded slowly and took a sip of his drink, "Yeah, loads of fun," He grinned at her, "How much 'ave you had to drink?" He asked.
Breigha started counting on her hands, before throwing them in the air with an infectious laugh, “I don’t even remember!” Carter shook his head, laughing a bit as well. He took a sip off his punch again, then downed the cup. It tasted good, like it had a little zang at the end. Breigha started to dance away, calling over her shoulder, “You two should enjoy yourselves tonight!”
Carter frowned at her, but set his empty cup on the grass then took Arria’s hands in his, “Will you dance with me?”
Arria smiled at Carter and nodded, "I'd love too." He said, finishing his cup of punch and doing the same as Carter and placing it on the ground, "What did Breigha mean by 'enjoy yourselves?'" He asked, cocking his head to the side a little.
Carter rolled his eyes at the thought, already feeling a bit loose when he started dancing, “You know… she’s drunk, I’m not very surprised she suggested something like that.” Carter laughed, his head spinning a little. The party just seemed so much more enjoyable and colorful now… Breigha danced her way next to them again, bringing her friends along with her. A few of them started chatting Carter up with phrases like, “Who’s your boyfriend?” “Thanks for letting us use your yard!” And, “You’re so nice Carter!”
Carter didn’t notice when Breigha got on the tips of her toes to whisper in Arria’s ear, “I know Carter can be a bit of a buzz kill sometimes, I gave his drink a little X for you,” Breigha giggled as she pulled away, glancing at Carter.
Arria's eyes widened a little and looked from Breigha to Carter to back to Breigha, "I know he can be but you still shouldn't have done that." Great, how was he going to get home is Carter was drunk.
If I had a puffer fish I'd throw it at her…
“Please, a little X won’t hurt,” Breigha rolled her eyes before walking over to Carter and pushing him towards Arria. That hadn’t been a ‘little’ X, but… It hardly mattered. Carter was as high as the sky.
He stumbled slightly, falling into Arria’s arms with a lopsided grin. He quickly righted himself, putting his hands on Arria’s waist and starting to dance, “This is fun, right Arria?”
"Yeah, so much fun…" Arria muttered, but put his arms around Carter anyway. He sighed and shook his head, forcing a smile even though he was worried for Carter. And because he couldn't drive in this state, which meant he couldn't get home if he wanted. Looks like he was going be be playing parent.
