Steve smiled faintly. "Because we'll be together," He shrugged, saying it like it was the simplest thing in the world; because it was. They'd always find they're way back to each other, in whatever fractured, forgotten way they could.
Steve smiled faintly. "Because we'll be together," He shrugged, saying it like it was the simplest thing in the world; because it was. They'd always find they're way back to each other, in whatever fractured, forgotten way they could.
Bucky let out a breath, and nodded a little bit. "Yeah." He replied slowly, looking away again. What do I do now?
Steve glanced slowly out at the skyline, the coloured clouds had faded from orange and the sun was casting its final light. He turned halfway back to face the door, gingerly touching Bucky's arm. "I think I'm gonna head in," He said, figuring that he probably wanted a moment alone, "Hopefully the party's over. If it's alright, I'd like to kiss you again, sometime. But…it's okay if not. I get that things are different now and you might not–"
Bucky looked over at him, and nodded a little bit. "I…I think I'd like that too." he replied slowly, a little smile tugging at his mouth. "I just…my head's messed up and I don't know if you should." he didn't want Steve to start something like that with him and then realize too late what a bad idea it was.
Steve softly shook his head. "I've thought about this for…a while," He said, biting his lip for a moment, "'Should' doesn't mean much to me. I want this. I do. More than you know." Steve's gaze flickered down to Bucky's mouth and he could've kissed him right then. He hesitated, "But if you need time–"
"I don't. I just…I don't want you to get into this expecting…expecting it to make everything alright again." Bucky said slowly. "Because it…it won't."
Steve nodded. "I know," He said, "This isn't a quick-fix, and I don't need it to be. It's gonna take time." Steve lightly shrugged, smiling fondly at him, "I just wanna be with you, in this way. And go through it with you, if you'll let me."
Bucky took a deep breath. "I…okay." he said simply, shaking his head a little bit. "I want…" He let the breath out.
"You want…?" Steve prompted, still half-turned towards the door and looking at him like he was all he was searching for.
Bucky shrugged. "The same thing you do. I just… you just need to know that it's not…going to make everything magically better."
"Mhm," Steve faintly nodded, "I get that. And…I think you need to know that's not why I want this. Of course, I want things to fix themselves, but…I just want to be with you. That's it."
Bucky nodded a little bit. "I…I get that." He replied slowly, looking over at Steve and taking a deep breath.
"Hm," Steve quietly nodded, smiling before he leaned close, pressing a quick kiss on Bucky's cheek. "I'll– uh, be inside," He said shyly.
Bucky blinked at the kiss, a soft smile tugging at his lips at the gesture of affection. "Alright." He watched Steve go with a little smile on his face.
Steve walked to the door biting his lip and blushing furiously, still in disbelief over what had just occurred. He confessed. Bucky confessed. Tony was right. He was floating, completely forgetting the night's worries of press and presentation. He sighed happily as he approached the elevator, deciding he was too tired to track down the caterers about those figs, and instead might do well with some sleep, seeing that he hadn't slept well the previous night.
Bucky took a deep breath once Steve was gone, letting it out slowly as he tried to process this. "Holy fuck." he said out loud, the words floating out over the city.
Steve smiled the entire ride up the elevator, shaking his head like he couldn't believe it. He walked down the hall with a little bounce in his step, sighing dreamily as he made his way towards his room.
(tony standing with his hands on his hips : "what did you DO")
Tony was laying in wait like a villain from a B movie. "So where did you disappear to?" he questioned, smirking a little bit.
(there you go)
"Hm?" Steve chimed, almost jumping at the sight of him. "I was, uh…with Bucky," He said, his smile saying it all, "Yeah. That's where I was."
Tony smirked a little bit. "And what did you do with said Bucky?" he asked, raising his eyebrows at Steve.
Steve looked down shyly, his hands in his pockets. "I told him…y'know," He blushed, shrugging lightly, "And he– he told me. God. He's– felt the same, for a while."
Tony grinned triumphantly. "I told you!" he crowed, looking at Steve and grinning.
"Yeah, you did!" Steve nodded excitedly, then shook his head in disbelief, "I don't know how to properly react– This is so much…I'm exhausted, but my mind's running a hundred miles an hour! I can't– He feels the same."
Tony let out a little laugh, smiling over at Steve. "Well, congratulations. When the tabloids find out they're going to have a fucking field day." then his smile flickered. "Although…in today's political climate, you two are going to get a lot of backlash."
"Man, I can't even think about that right now," Steve smiled, shaking his head slightly, "I know it's going to get messy, but…It doesn't even matter. This is worth the yellow journalism, to me."
