(it's fine! Goodnight!)
Bucky thought for a moment. "Oh…sure." he replied with a quick smile. "Let's go." he glanced over at the elevator.
"Quietly," Steve said with a crooked smile and a nod, trying to be as discreet as possible as they separated themselves from the crowd. He chuckled, "I mean– let's not draw attention."
Bucky laughed softly as he followed Steve out of the crowd and out of the party. They were about as stealthy as two men over six foot could be.
Steve moved through the crowd with a smile on his face and Bucky in tow, finally reaching the elevator and pressing the button.
Bucky waited, going inside once the doors opened and letting out a slow breath. "I don't know who told Tony that that party was a good idea." he grumbled.
"Hm, yeah," Steve chuckled, stepping into the elevator after a quick glance down the halls, "Crowds were never really my thing, but this one was especially tiresome."
Bucky nodded slightly. "Ugh." he replied simply, putting his hands in his pocket and leaning against the wall of the elevator, letting out a breath.
Steve sighed, letting out a soft breath as he loosened his too-tight collar. "But those guys…they didn't bother you too much, did they?"
Bucky shook his head slightly, loosening his tie and running his hands through his hair, messing it up a bit. "No. I'm…I'm fine." He replied.
"Hm," Steve nodded, wondering if he was just saying that. He almost laughed at the realization of what a strange parallel this was; He was the one asking if Bucky was alright, after 'stepping in' to shoo the two men off. "Well, I'm just glad we're outta there. Though, not so much about those figs…damn."
Bucky looked at him, and let out a quiet laugh. "You can always ask Tony for the leftovers, if there are any." he reasoned, shrugging his shoulders.
"Aw, no. I don't think so," Steve smiled shyly, glancing up to see the floor numbers nearing ten, "I don't wanna bother him. He's a busy guy. But…maybe I'll track down the caterers."
Bucky shook his head a little bit. "You could still ask him." he replied with a shrug. "But the caterers is a good idea to."
Steve let out a short sigh. "Maybe," He said as the doors slid open, mentally cursing himself for not sneaking a few out when they left.
Bucky shrugged again, and followed Steve out of the elevator. "So, where are we headed, again?"
Steve smiled, nodding down the short hall to a glass door. "There's a huge balcony," He said, pointing at the door, "Nice view, has a few chairs and tables."
Bucky nodded. "Ah, right." he replied as they walked, his hands still in his pockets. He sort of hoped that they could catch the sunset.
Steve opened the door at the end of the hall, letting out a sigh of relief as a gentle breeze rushed in, warm and summery compared to the crisp air conditioning back at the party.
Bucky let out a breath as the air rushed over them, and stepped outside, going over to the railing.
Steve gingerly stepped out onto the balcony, idly keeping his hands in his pockets as he took in their surroundings. Tables and chairs were scattered over the concrete space, shaded by the tall cover of the helipad. He slowly wandered over to the edge of the balcony, his gaze drifting over the skyline; the slow-setting sun peeking through the tall buildings.
Bucky rested his hands on the railing, taking a deep breath as he looked out at the skyline, at the sunset. He felt…better now. Freer, here with just Steve.
Steve let out a gentle sigh, letting his shoulders soften as they stood, watching the sun sinking through the now peach-coloured clouds and closer to the horizon. He mistakenly let his gaze wander downward, getting a nervous glimpse of the busied streets below. "I was never afraid of heights," He said, trying to fend off the memory of the man next to him falling from the snowy peaks, "–Before the war."
Bucky looked over at Steve for a moment, and nodded. "What…" he almost asked what happened, and then he remembered. The train. Him falling. Of course.
Steve shrugged almost nonchalantly, squinting at the light reflecting off of the sleek skyscrapers. "I dunno," He said, letting out a breath, "I'm not…I'm not afraid. It just– feels like I'll see it again if I don't look away."
Bucky shrugged a little bit. "Yeah." he replied simply, unsure of what else to say about that.
