"Not even Tara knows…" Abby sighed. She'd felt bad about not telling her BFF for years. Maybe River was right.
River frowned, "Then you really should tell someone. You two are basically conjoined at the hip."
Abby smiled faintly. "Yeah. Do you want to sit?" She motioned towards the passenger seat.
River smiled at her as he climbed into the passenger seat, "Sure."
Abby put the window up and turned off the car again. "Well, I've had a secret long distance relationship with my old high school and college friend, Eric." She closed her eyes, worried about River's reaction.
River's eyes opened a bit before he responded, "Okay."
"……Partially." She admitted.
"Partially? Is there more?"
Tara sighed. "Between my mom, Sara, Abby, work, college, and every other problem I've had to deal with for the last few years, I've never had anytime to do….well, anything. I can't catch a break. I haven't slept in days Darren! It's so…..stressful and draining."
Darren sighed and nodded, "But now you aren't alone right? I want to help you Tara, I do. Just tell me what you need and consider it done okay?"
Tara nodded as she rested her head on Darren's shoulder. "I don't know how you could help me, the only thing I can think of is watching Sara but I don't want to dump her on you."
"I'll do whatever you need me to even if it's just a night out every now and then and you can stay here whenever you want to get away as well,"
"Hm……that'd be nice…." Tara trailed off.
"Like I said, anytime. You don't even have to ask you can just be like, 'Yo Darren, I'm sleeping at your place got it!' and I'll just give you a thumbs up," He laughed.
Tara blushed but laughed. "I….don't think I'll be doing that. But a night out every once in a while would be nice…"
"Whatever you want." His smile turned to complete seriousness, "I'm here for you okay?"
Tara nodded. "I know Darren…..you've said it many times." She answered, leaning up and kissing Darren's cheek.
A soft, 'I love you' escaped his lips. He didn't mean for it to but there it was. He blushed, maybe she didn't hear him.
Tara heard Darren's words and blushed brightly, and she buried her face in his shoulder and said something incoherently.
Darren's face only turned a brighter red, he had accidentally said the words and he couldn't tell if she had said them back.
Tara finally pulled her face back and said softly, "I love you too Darren."
Darren smiled, he was glad he hadn't made a complete fool of himself.
Tara dropped her head on Darren's shoulder again, avoiding Darren's eyes.
Darren laid his head on her, content with the notion of just being there with her.
Tara took a deep breath. She began humming a tune softly, closing her eyes and shutting out all outside problems.
Darren had shut his eyes too, he wanted to help her. He wanted to be the one that came along and wiped her life free from all troubles but he didn't know how. Not yet al least.
