“I’ve seen a lot of people come through with enchanted jewelry for translators.” she nodded. “You know, necklaces or earrings. But I never thought I would need one.”

(hey, just a heads up: I’m going camping this week so I won't have very good connection and won't be able to reply very often. If at all, until Thursday/Friday)
(That's fine! Have fun!)
“I’ve seen a lot of people come through with enchanted jewelry for translators.” she nodded. “You know, necklaces or earrings. But I never thought I would need one.”
"That too, that's also an option. And some people don't need enchantments or potions or anything at all. But those kinds of people are very unique, even I'm not that fast when picking up a language."
Charlotte laughed a little and nodded. “I’d say those people are lucky or naturally gifted if they can pick up languages so fast.”
"I know! I wish I could pick up languages that fast. I'm pretty good but I'm not that good. It's exhausting to learn a new language, especially when you already know multiple."
“How many languages do you know?” she asked, tilting her head curiously.
"Erm, close to ten but I don't totally remember." He shrugged. "Learning languages kept me entertained as a kid."
“That's still impressive.” she smiled. “I only know two or three.”
"Really? Which ones?" He glanced over at her with a slightly surprised expression.
“Well… basic, of course, the one we're speaking now.” she started, shrugging. “The language of Pixies, which honestly sounds more like chirps and clicks to most. And… I know some phrases in Elvish.” she admitted.
"Oh, how interesting. Did you know it's actually impossible to learn to speak Pixie without being one or one of the variations like fairies or Fae yourself? No other races have the vocal structure to make the same sounds. And when intonation is as important as it is there, it's really important to have the vocal structure to speak the language."
“Well, I'm not surprised.” she nodded. “I didn't know the reason but it doesn't surprise me to learn that. I can also read Pixie though writing it is tricky. It's mostly pictographs so… It's time-consuming to write anything.” she added, smiling up at him.
"Yeah, I could never learn to write Pixie. My handwriting is terrible, I couldn't do all that drawing. I can read bits and pieces but not enough to be considered fluent."
“Well, that's ok. I wouldn't say I'm completely fluent in reading Pixie but I have good handwriting in general.” she teased playfully.
Rodney swatted at her gently with a roll of his eyes and a smile. "Don't patronize me. We don't all have an inn to run where we're writing all day."
Charlotte giggled at the gesture, grabbing onto his finger. “Maybe not but it's still a benefit for both of us while we're together.”
"Mm, it might be. I'm certainly grateful that you can, at the very least. Pixies can be such nasty creatures to outsiders."
“So I've heard… but it's good to know that I have a bit of an advantage over other travelers in that regard.” she smiled, fluttering her wings before settling back on his shoulder.
(Heads up, I'm going on vacation so I won't be on for a while)
"Yes yes, just a bit. A very useful bit too. Maybe it'll keep me from being eaten."
(Ok! Have a good time!)
“I doubt they would try to eat you. First of all, they're about half my height and are considered to be our version of halflings.” she explained. “Yes, they're not very kind to outsiders but that's because they're more private. And secondly, they prefer sweeter foods.” she added with a smirk.
(boop)
Rodney raised an eyebrow at her with a smile. "Oh? Is that so? Did you learn that from a pixie or from experience?"
She shook her head and smiled up at him. “Common knowledge. At least where I grew up. I never actually met a Pixie but I think one, or both, of my parents did. They told me everything they knew about them.”
"Really now. How interesting. I guess that makes sense. I mean, most species of fairies like offerings of milk and honey, at least from my experience they do. Whenever I end up in a magic forest I leave some out in a little tin with some bread soaked in it so they don't eat me in my sleep. But they do leave this powder when they take it. I had it tested the next time I was in town and turns out it's this really powerful sleeping powder that comes from when fairies shed their fairy dust or something? I don't know the true schematics behind it but it's something like that. It's supposed to give this really deep, healing sleep but it doesn't feel very good. From what I've seen it only comes from a few specific subspecies of fairies? I think only two or three. All I know is the main one is supposedly beautiful but can only be seen by virgins."
(Did I steal this from one of my favorite fanfictions that has fairies? Maybe~)
