"Yeah, that's the thing with travelling. You always need more than you think and spend more than you should. Such is life."
"Yeah, that's the thing with travelling. You always need more than you think and spend more than you should. Such is life."
Charlotte giggled a little and nodded. “Another travelers philosophy. But I think I understand it. I’ve seen people around town who often buy more than they need… but without a real reason.”
"Oh, sometimes there's a reason. Maybe not all of the time but most of the time, there's a reason. It's just that some are harder to understand than others."
Charlotte nodded thoughtfully and shrugged briefly. “Well, if there is a reason, I never understood it. I don't shop much except for what I need… Most of the time. Occasionally, there are things that I see that I like.” she admitted with a soft blush.
"Well, you run an inn. You have to keep close stock on inventory and when things go bad and such. Most of us adventurers don't get that kind of luxury. But I can understand where it comes from."
Charlotte nodded. “Yeah. Running inventory is a whole different type of shopping and I used to do that all the time. But it was hardly ever my personal money. It was usually income from the inn.” she shrugged.
"Yeah, we don't have that. Some adventurers do have side jobs that they do to bring in extra money like bounty hunting or being someone's assistant. I don't. Clearly."
“Probably a good thing you don't. Bounty hunters don't have a good reputation in general. And with your flair… It wouldn't end well.” she said thoughtfully. “And you certainly don't seem like the assistant type. You seem like more of a leader to me.”
"Aw, that's very sweet of you to say, my friend. I can't say you're the first to have that sentiment although definitely the most recent. People like to say I'm the leader type although I'm not so sure I see it quite as clearly as they do."
She giggled and gave a small shrug. “That doesn't surprise me. But I've heard a lot of people don't always recognize themselves to be leaders until they're in the right situation. And some, not even then. But everyone else looks up to them to make the decisions.” she told him. “If I’m not the only one who sees that in you, then you probably are a leader type.”
Rodney blushed a bashful pink, looking away from her as he smiled. "You're far too sweet for me, Charlotte. I'm going to form cavities at this rate."
“I’m just being honest and trying to be a good friend.” she smiled playfully as she leaned against him though she was still being sincere.
He gently swatted at her. "I know that but the way you say it is so embarrassing. I'm not used to getting such heartfelt compliments, it feels unnatural."
She giggled at the playful gesture and pushed his fingers back. “Well, if we're going to be together for a while, you’ll have to get used to it. Though I will miss seeing you blush like that.”
(OKAY I KNOW IT'S BEEN A WEEK I'M SORRY I'VE BEEN DEALING WITH IMMENSE AMOUNTS OF WRITER'S BLOCK)
"Ah yes because seeing me out of my element for once is just the highlight of your day." He laughed with a roll of his eyes. "I'm sure you'll find something else to lord over me eventually, Char."
(It's ok! I saw your message on Discord. No worries!)
“I'm not sure about the highlight… But I certainly enjoy it.” she admitted with a playful smirk. “Who knows what the future will hold but I don't know what else I might be able to do that I can brag about that you can't do.”
(You still there? Or just really busy again?)
(Dramatic "I've just come back from the dead" gasp I LIIIIIVE! It only took me over a month, sorry about that 😅)
"Well, you can fly. That's certainly something I wish I could do. Seriously, my life would be so much easier if I had wings. Walking takes so long."
(Yay!!!! Welcome back!! 😁 Been busy?)
Charlotte nodded slightly. ”Flying is wonderful but, I heard it still takes the same amount of energy as walking.” she admitted. “Personally, I'm not sure if that's true or not. I just know that I can't fly if I’m using my bracelet.”
(If you call writer's block and being half dead busy then yeah)
"Maybe so. But going over things would make my life so much easier. Plus just flapping my way out of any conversation I don't want to have sounds like it'd be great, don't you think? Never having to interact with anyone you don't want, just nope out of the situation."
(😬 yikes!)
Charlotte laughed and shook her head. “That sounds like a you thing. I like talking to people… Well, most people.” she shrugged. “Being an innkeeper, I didn't always have the option to “nope out” of a conversation with a customer.”
"Well that makes one of us." Rodney laughed with a half shrug. "I much prefer the quiet forest life. People are lovely but I prefer them in small doses. It's why I stick to smaller inns and taverns rather than main ones. They're usually less crowded and I'm less likely to be interrogated for one reason or another."
Charlotte giggled a little and nodded. “I don't blame you for that. The forest does have its own charms and if you stay at the inns near the edge of town.. Those are usually the smaller ones from what I understand.” she hummed. “Though I doubt most intend to interrogate you. Except for officers.” she added with a smirk.
Rodney shuddered but smiled a little. "Don't remind me. I've been politely questioned by a few too many guards and officers for my liking, thank you very much. Can I just go into one town without being scrutinized?"
Charlotte gripped the collar of his shirt to avoid being jostled too much. “Well, if what happened when we met was any indication, I’d say it's doubtful. But hopefully having a reliable companion around might help.” she smiled, referring to herself since no one had questioned them in this town yet.
