Rodney just nodded, closing his eyes and turning over onto his side away from her. Maybe he couldn't see much but it was the thought that counted.
Rodney just nodded, closing his eyes and turning over onto his side away from her. Maybe he couldn't see much but it was the thought that counted.
“Thank you.” she smiled as she set her bag down and pulled out a clean shirt for the night. It was long enough, and comfy, but she would still have to change again in the morning. “Ok. It's safe for you to look.” she said after a few minutes as she climbed into her bed.
"Alright. You don't mind if I do the same, do you? Although I wear a little less clothing, usually so brace yourself for that."
“No. I don't mind.” she answered, rolling over so that her back was to him and hiding the deep blush that had overtaken her face.
"Thanks." Rodney got up to pull a softer pair of pants out of his bag, stripping out of his current ones to put them on and taking his shirt with it although that he didn't replace. It revealed all the scars and scratches he'd gotten on his journeys, some newer and some older, some shallow and some deep. His favorite, if anyone asked, was the one on his back that reached from his right shoulder all the way down to his left hip. It was the biggest one he had and it was years old. But there were countless others along with it. "Ah, much better."
Charlotte waited until he spoke again before chancing to look back at him. Her eyes widened at the sight of all the scars as she sat up, though it wasn't really a surprise that he had them. She remembered many of her customers showing off their old wounds… But seeing these felt different.
If he noticed her staring, he didn't say anything. He just settled into bed and stretched his arms over his head. "A soft bed after a long day, nothing beats it."
Charlotte blinked as his voice took her attention away from his scars. She hadn't meant to stare, she just couldn't look away. “It is very nice, isn't it?” she agreed, laying down on her side since fairies hardly ever slept on their backs.
He reached over to turn out the light. "Well, if you're ready to turn it in, so am I. Can I turn this off now?"
“Go ahead.” she hummed softly, her eyes already closing. “Good night, Rodney.”
He turned out the light with a smile. "Goodnight, Charlotte." He settled into bed and let himself drift off.
(gonna do a quick time skip)
Charlotte wasn't even sure when she fell asleep just that it felt like she blinked and it was morning. And fortunately, no longer tired. But she was reluctant to get out of the comfy bed so soon.
Rodney was still passed out, looking entirely too comfortable and snoring softly. If she wanted him awake, she'd have to do it herself.
Charlotte giggled softly as she burrowed deeper into her blankets. She had no plans of waking Rodney yet or getting up until she had to.
Luckily for her, Rodney was a very heavy sleeper and would remain that way for a long time unless she did something about it. But for now, he continued to sleep.
Charlotte smiled, watching him sleep so peacefully and assumed that it was most likely all the traveling he did that made him so tired. And the lack of urgency from threats to leave right away. Not that she blamed him.
He shifted, turning onto his side so he now faced Charlotte but looked no closer to waking up. Who knows the last time he had the chance to sleep this good.
Charlotte sighed softly, watching him for a few more minutes before finally deciding to get up. Her wings didn't feel as sore as they were yesterday as she stretched out.
The sound of her rustling made him stir, mumbling something unintelligible as he turned onto his back once more. Rodney really did sleep like the dead.
Charlotte froze for a moment when Rodney moved, only relaxing when he settled again. Moving quieter as she quickly dressed, grabbed up her clothes, and slid on her bracelet once she was clear of the nightstand. It felt a little sneaky leaving him alone but it wouldn't be for too long as she grabbed his dirty clothes as well.
He didn't notice her past the initial movement, dead asleep again like nothing had ever happened. And people wondered why he was so ignorant to things.
She almost chuckled as she finished grabbing the clothes and snuck out the door, even making sure to close it softly. Still fairly certain that he was asleep, she went down and looked for either the owner or another employee.
Downstairs was a man behind the counter, wiping it down and barely looking any more awake than Rodney upstairs. He didn't look up when Charlotte came down, too out of it to notice.
“Excuse me, sir.” she called out softly. “I’m sorry to bother you but can you direct me to someplace when I can clean these?” she asked politely.
His head snapped up at her voice like he'd been on autopilot. "Huh? Oh, laundry. Um, down the hall and to the right, second door should be the laundry room. Just hand it off to one of the staff there, they'll take care of it."
