Charlotte sighed a little but smiled warmly at her friend. “Thanks to you, I won't. It sounds more terrifying than what I want to experience.”
Charlotte sighed a little but smiled warmly at her friend. “Thanks to you, I won't. It sounds more terrifying than what I want to experience.”
"Mhm, I'd certainly hope not. But let's not keeping talking about it. It's a bad subject. Where is somewhere you do want to go? Hopefully somewhere a little safer."
Charlotte nodded, glad for the change in topic before giving a thoughtful hum. “I know I mentioned wanting to see the ocean. But I wouldn't mind seeing some mountains either… Maybe an Elven village?” she admitted. “It may be silly but some Fairies consider Elves to be like second cousins. You know, since Fae are kinda right between the two…”
"We can definitely do the village and the mountains on our way to the ocean because that in and of itself is going to take a while. We can make some quick detours along the way."
“Alright. The detours will be fun.” she smiled. “Anyway, the journey is more memorable than the destination, isn't it? “
"Exactly. People focus so much on where they're going that they forget about the beauty of the inbetween."
She nodded. “Right. And that's just sad. Those people might as well be asleep for the whole journey.” she sighed a little before smiling back up at him. “At least we know the value of the journey.”
"That we do." Rodney nodded with a smile. "Well, I say it's about time we pack it in for the night, don't you? It's getting quite late."
“Hmm, yeah. It is getting late. Did you get us a room?” she asked, holding back a yawn now that he mentioned the time.
"Yeah, I did. Upstairs, third door on the left. Should be unlocked but if not, I have the key."
“Alright.” she nodded as she stood up. “Are you ready to head up?”
"As I'll ever be. Let's go." He stood from the table and started to head up to their room.
Charlotte smiled softly and flew up behind him. After two days of travel, despite riding on Rodney’s shoulders occasionally, her wings were a little stiff. But she still managed to keep up.
Rodney tapped his shoulder lightly as he reached the bottom of the stairs, something he'd started doing when he offered Charlotte to sit on his shoulder.
Charlotte smiled gratefully and took up his offer. “Thank you.” she yawned, leaning into him a little more than normal.
"I thought I told you to stop thanking me for that. You're my companion, I want you to he comfortable." He chuckled as he headed upstairs to their room.
“Tired. I forgot.” she murmured as she tried to keep her eyes open. “Why am I so tired all of a sudden?”
"It's the inn. Believe me, I'm the same way. Staying outside is one thing but whenever I sleep at some kind of inn, I'm out like a light. I'm so much sleepier, I can't imagine why. I think it's the atmosphere and the preconceived notions that come with it but I'm not totally sure."
Charlotte hummed, nodding a little at his explanation. “I see. I always tried to keep my inn feeling… homey so I can understand what you mean. But I am looking forward to sleeping like that.” she admitted.
Rodney opened the door and let them in, closing it behind them. "Then make yourself at home." There was a typical human sized bed in the cozy room and then a much smaller specially made fairy one on the nightstand. "I'd say take your pick but I think I know which one you're gonna go with."
“Well, I don't think you'll fit in the other bed.” she giggled as she slid off his shoulder and flew over to the nightstand.
"Fair enough." He laughed as he slid his boots off and crawled into bed with a sigh of relief. "If you need to change or anything, just say. I'll give you some privacy."
“Actually, if you don't mind I would like to change real quick.” she nodded. She had no problem sleeping in her clothes when they traveled but right now… Well, a wash wouldn't do any harm but that could wait till morning.
"Of course. Do you want me to step out or is just turning around okay." He'd never had to do this since he'd never really had a companion but he hoped he was doing this right.
“Turning around is fine.” she assured since he was already in bed. Even if he hadn't been when he made the offer, her answer would have been the same since… With the size difference between the, she wasn't sure how much he would be able to see.
