Kaz gulped, the change in Vaughn's tone causing more of that odd feeling in his stomach again. "It was my cousin's idea. It was, um. Kind of a joke idea at first. We had a conversation about how great a tattoo that said 'Life sucks then you die' would be, and then a month later he had me draw the design. We were gonna have the words written somewhere but we ended up leaving them out."

Vaughn listened as he nodded slowly, running the information through his brain. Not really anything useful. Does talk about his cousin a lot he mentally Notes before standing up, back between Kaz’s legs. “Tell me about your cousin.”

"W-Well, um. He's about four years younger than me. We've been together ever since he was born, even though when we first met it was over a voice chat. He's been here in the US his whole life," he said, relaxing a little as he talked about his cousin. "His name is Michael. His parents are rich assholes, but he's always been the nicest person to walk the planet. Even when they kicked him out, he's always been nice."

“And you said he vanished?” Vaughn questioned further, resting his palms back on the counter on either side of Kaz.
Kaz nodded. "His roommate and him have been gone for about two months now," he said, somehow managing to keep the stutter out of his voice even though Vaughn had gotten closer again
“Any idea of where they could have gone?” Vaughn asked, meeting Kaz’s gaze as he seemed unfazed. People went missing all the time. It was normal in this day and age. Bad things just happened.
"Not really," he said. It was a lie, of course. He had a vague idea where they had gone, but he didn't need to tell Vaughn that. How crazy would 'oh, yeah, they went off to go track down a runaway god for some reason, no big deal' sound? And he definitely wasn't going to say anything about Michael's abilities

Vaughn’s eyes suddenly narrowed sharply at that. “You’re lying to me,” he hissed, pushing back from the counter and stepping out from between Kaz’s dangling legs. See? He’s a lier. He has probably been lying to you this whole time, Finley. He’s a threat, you shouldn’t have brought him there, the whispers suddenly snapped.

Kaz's eyes widened, and he froze a little. "I…What? What are you talking about?" he stammered, already missing Vaughn's presence next to him

Vaughn’s jaw clenched tightly, along with his fists. Hit him, Finley. Hit him hard, the whispers demanded, but he didn’t. “You lied,” he repeated in a sharp tone as he looked at Kaz.
Kaz scooted back on the counter a little, putting his hands up in surrender. "Okay, okay, yeah. I did lie. I sort of have an idea where Michael and Erika are, I just don't know for sure yet. But it's not important because there's nothing to be done about it."
Vaughn’s eyes narrowed sharply, but his posture relaxed slightly and his fists unclenched. “Don’t lie to me again, Kaz,” he muttered in a low tone.

Kaz ran a hand through his hair nervously. For a moment he thought…He didn't know what he thought Vaughn would do. "I…I'm sorry," he said quietly, looking down at the floor. He wanted to make some sort of excuse, but he didn't bother. The worst thing he could do would be to slip up and say something that got him shot
Vaughn let out a sharp breath as he seemed to calm, the dangerous glint in his eyes fading away. He stepped over, hand going to Kaz’s chin to turn his face towards his own. They were close at that point. “What did you say? Speak up, little demon,” Vaughn said in a level tone.

Kaz gulped, eyes shining in some mix of fear and…he wasn't quite sure. He could feel his face start to heat up again at Vaughn's touch, and he struggled to remember English for a long moment. "I…I said I was sorry," he said quietly

Vaughn gave a tricky smile like that. He actually smiled. He didn’t do that often. He also brought his thumb up to brush along Kaz’s lower lip before letting go. “Good.”

Kaz looked up at him, eyes wide. What the hell was going on? How did Vaughn go from pissed to…hot? And how did he do it so damn quickly? He opened his mouth to respond but he couldn't quite find the words for anything to say, so he sat there flustered and dumbfounded like a complete idiot

Vaughn didn’t seem bothered by it at all. His smile did drop though, going back to his normally emotionless expression. He stepped out from behind the counter, making his way down one of the isles. “Drink?” He offered, opening up one of the fridges and taking out a half full bottle of vodka.
(that sounds about right) Kaz nodded. "Um, yeah. That sounds like a good idea. Plan. Thing," he rambled, rubbing at the spot where Vaughn had touched his jaw. It still felt warm, unreasonably so against the heat of his fading blush
