Tohru gave a slight smile. The touch of another human felt nice, to say the least. Of course, being in the apocalypse, he hadn't been hugging on people much at all since-
He shuddered a bit at the thought that started coming and pushed it down.
But even before that, his family had never been the touchy-feely type. Apparently cuddling was… normal between parents and their kids? And he rarely got hugged either. Maybe a pat on the back, sometimes the obligatory hug if he returned home after being gone a long time.
As such, he was fucking touch-starved, and he didn't want to move from Levi's warmth.
"Whenever you're ready, we're not in a horrible rush," Tohru said softly.
Earl winced, rubbing his head. "We're taking a break Rachel. Despite what you may think, some of us have to rest. And also aren't on a caffeine high."
He sighed and looked back to the deer.
Flies.
Guts, everywhere.
Made him ask why they had to come across that zombie? Not only was it gross, it was a bad butcher job.
Rachel hmphed and flopped down on the ground. "Fine. Take a nap, or whatever." She said, crossing her arms.
This sucked. She wanted to be back home. Away from zombies. As far as she knew, the dogs were alive at least…
(AAAAAAAAA THE TOHRU RESPONSE IS SO CUTE but also sad)
(I'm not projecting, I'm not projecting, istg I'm not projecting :/ )
Levi leaned back a bit more into Tohru and sighed. He felt his ribs and shoulders relax and some of the pain in his chest went away. Which was weird, he hadn't realised it had been hurting. "At least one good thing has come out of this mess," He started, "We all got to meet each other. And we probably wouldn't have otherwise."
Aspen sat quite, using a sharp twig to pick at the dead skin on her knee, Arlo hopped around, fully awake now, and plucked some grass out of the ground and sat it at Aspens feet, as an offering, Aspen looked at him and smiled, petting his head gently.
"Let's get going, then. We don't want to just be standing around waiting for something to start chasing us if it wasn't already." Kas huffed a bit and looked around, clearly uneasy. He didn't like being stuck here when he could hardly walk.
Rachel smiled. "Finally, someone gets it!"
She jumped up, ready to go. But, she started getting light-headed, dizzy.
"Oh…I got up to fast…" She said, falling/flopping down onto the ground again.
Earl rolled his eyes. "You know that's going to happen when you get up so quickly. Dumbass."
He smirked, a bit smug. Of course, he did know that he shouldn't be smirking, and actually helping her.
But she did that to herself. Like an idiot.
Luka nodded, ready to go as well. He held Kas close to him as he looked around. Lilac sighed, still holding Mori. She was ready too, but wanted to make sure everyone was as well. Bean wrapped her arm around Aspen. She looked at the other girl in worry.
"That I'm glad for," Tohru agreed, "Meeting all of you, that is. You guys have been nothing but kind and helpful."
Lis was standing at the front of the group, still monitoring the area ahead they would be traveling.
Tohru let out a heavy sigh.
"Guess it is time to leave now. But that's probably for the best, huh? I hope we can find more stable shelter."
"Mmm-" Levi groaned, pushing himself forward and away from Tohru. He dragged his bag towards himself and fumbled through it for his water bottle. He found it pretty quickly, realised he wasn't thirsty, and put it back. Then he just sat there, cross-legged on the ground, waiting for someone to tell him to move.
Tohru got to his feet and dusted himself off a little. Then, he extended a hand to help Levi up.
"Come on, let's see what we can find up ahead."
(Did you guys want to skip ahead some to them finding shelter? Is there anything you wanted to add plotwise in between?)
(Skipping is fine with me)
(Alright, I'll write a skip ig?)
(Oh yeah, so I'm out of town and may be on the inactive side, just a heads up)
For a while, the group traveled along a long-abandoned road, hoping it would eventually lead to shelter. After a few hours, a small town lied ahead of them.
"Thank fuck…" Tohru murmured, "Alright, let's pick a place to crash, I guess?"
"Sure, let's get closer first," Lis agreed, "The sturdier the better."
Aspen trudged along, slightly towards the back, her baseball bat handle held tightly in her grip. She looked around, watching for movement, her legs getting tired and numb, her eyes darted around wildly and she sighed and Arlo slept on her shoulder peacefully.
Bean walked next to Aspen, swaying as she was exhausted. She just wanted to get some sleep. Luka was holding Kas as he looked around for any good shelter. Lilac was still holding Mori as she, too, was exhausted. They had been walking for a long while and it showed.
Kas had passed out again on the way and was limp in Luka's arms, looking pretty drained. Mori had fallen eerily silent, and hadn't spoken a single word for hours. His face was pale and his eyes were dull and wide.
Luka held Kas close, worry building up in his mind. He couldn’t help but look around for any place to rest. Lilac looked down at Mori. “Kid…? Are you okay?” she asked quietly, knowing everyone was exhausted. She was really worried about him…he hadn’t spoken for a while.
Mori didn't respond, only holding a bit tighter to Lilac. He kept staring blankly forward, trembling lightly and keeping silent for the time being. Kas stirred a little, but didn't wake up.
