(Alright aha)
(Oki doki)
(Hey guys, I’ve been busy too but I’m here now lol)
(Hi!)
“I…I don’t know…” Lilac muttered, visibly shaking. “I always thought my family would be here by now and we’d be able to pull it off but…” the young girl trailed off. She hadn’t seen any sign of her siblings since they were separated.
Lyn wrapped her arm around Lilac’s shoulders again, this time keeping them there. “We’ll find them,” she assured. “We’ve at least made it somewhere safe, and now we can focus on other things. Have you asked around, seen if anyone knows or spotted them?”
“I’ve tried but so far no one’s seen them…” Lilac teared up. “What if the zombies got them…?” She couldn’t bear to think about it. Bean, Hailey, and Luka all needed her and she couldn’t find them.
Lyn kept her eyes on the rising sun, the sky in a gradient of orange and turquoise, scattered with soft blue clouds. It was almost too beautiful. How could it be, when the world was so cruel?
“We don’t know that,” she murmured. “They could still be alive. We have to keep hoping, right?”
So much for following her own advice, though. Some days she just wanted to give up, throw herself into a pack of zombies and let her flesh rot. If not for the other girls, she wondered if she would still be alive now.
Lilac looked at her. “…Yeah…” she looked back at the sky. God, she wished her siblings were here to see the sunrise.
Mori seemed to be nodding off a bit as well, holding loosely to Tohru's hand with one of his own tiny ones. He was still awake, but hazy, and he was trying his best to keep watch. He looked down at Tohru when he stirred and let go of his hand, figuring the man probably wouldn't want to hold onto him. "Oh, you're awake! I don't think it's been an hour yet, but it's kinda hard to tell… are you ready to go?" He asked.
Tohru was a bit saddened when Mori let go of his hand. It had only happened once the boy realized he was awake, after all. Was he really coming across that stiff and unapproachable?
"If you're ready, we can go," Tohru said softly, "It'll maybe take half an hour to get there, if I'm correct. Not so bad."
"Mmkay." Mori got to his feet with a soft huff of strain, readjusting his backpack so it wouldn't dig into his shoulder. "I didn't see anyone or anything while you were sleeping, so we should be okay. It's the middle of the day, anyway, so we hopefully shouldn't have to worry too much…" He rambled on, only silencing himself when he realized he was doing so. "Sorry, I'm probably talking too much…" He mumbled. "B-But anyway, we… we should probably get going."
(No, baby you did good-)
(I’ve got the sheets for Lilac’s siblings ready but unfortunately one of them is gonna die)
(Oop)
(Should I send them in?)
The rest of the morning was a mix of helping the others at the outpost clean up the place, refilling their supplies, and taking naps. When lunch came around, they decided to properly discuss what to do next.
"I don't think we can survive on our own, we need an adult," Lyn said. "And we should look for Lilac's family, so why not move in with them if- when we find them?"
Josefine's eyes darkened a little as she inspected her mashed potatoes. "Sure, we can find her family, but why should we need an adult? I think we can survive on our own."
"Maybe," Lyn grimaced. "There's a slim chance. But won't that mean…?" she mumbled the last few words so that they were hard to hear, but Josefine still caught it and raised an eyebrow inquiringly.
Lyn sighed. "Are you saying we'll split up after we find her family?"
“Wait…what?!” Lilac sat up. “Guys, I don’t think we should split up…” she muttered, trying not to cry.
"Thanks for keeping watch," Tohru replied.
He hesitated for a moment.
"A-and, don't worry about talking too much. I'm glad to listen to what you have to say, okay?"
He pulled his bag back over his shoulders as well and glanced at Mori. He wanted to make conversation and help him feel at ease, but it was hard. Tohru wasn't great with kids, and he had been feeling particularly quiet after everything that happened.
"So, um… is there anything you want to know about me? I know I haven't talked much since we met, and I'm sorry."
(Should I send them in?)
(Whenever you're ready, sure)

Mori looked up curiously when Tohru said he was glad to listen to him. He didn't remember much of his parents, but the foggy memories he did have were mostly of them telling him to be quiet. "Oh, okay… thank you, sir." He started walking alongside the man, still seeming a bit hesitant and tense. "Anything I wanna know about you?" He repeated, adjusting his bag as he walked. "Uhm… I-I mean, you don't have to tell me anything you don't want to, Mr. Tohru… I wouldn't wanna make you uncomfortable."
(This child…. I'm love him so much. Also Tohru had issues with his parents as well! So that's fun! Also debating on making a middle aged character at some point just to kill them off :/ )
"I can't think of anything I'm uncomfortable with," Tohru said with a shrug, "I really don't mind."
He looked over at Mori with a sad smile. He wished he could do better for the kid.
Tohru looked back ahead to see the outline of the outpost. It wasn't far now.
(Oop-)
"O-Okay, um…" Mori considered for a few seconds. "Do you have parents?" He asked curiously. "I don't really remember mine much at all… I just know they're not around anymore. I'm fairly certain I used to travel with them, but I can't remember anything about them. I don't know what they look like or what they sound like or… or anything, really. I dunno what happened to them."
(God, I feel so bad for my kiddos)
Lilac was staring up at the sky, wishing for life to go back to what it was. Bean, Luka, and Hailey however…they were on their way to the outpost and neither side had any idea what they were gonna see.
Lyn glared at Josefine. They've had lesser arguments like these, but they usually didn't involve talking about the future or things like that. They had avoided talking about it until now because until now it had mostly been a matter of fighting to live another day.
"I didn't say that!" Josefine retorted. "I'm just saying if we somehow find them and they're–"
"Sef, don't finish that sentence." Lyn tilted her head in Lilac's direction. Josefine saw the emotion building up in the young girl's expression and wisely kept her mouth shut. She nibbled on the mashed potatoes.
Lyn turned to Lilac. "We're not going to. Let's just focus on finding your family, alright?"
