"Yeah, we've still got a good bit of time before dark," Lis said, "We can set up a fire outside and do it. I'll help, of course."
Lis' presence might have been quite off-putting to some. She was all smiles, friendly, and had perfect eyeliner- which was one of the tiny commodities she held onto when all hell broke loose. Yet, she stood there, hands covered in deer blood, and generally dirty and tired.
Tohru nodded at Mori.
"I know. I don't either."
He curled in on himself a little more, trying to find a comfortable position to rest in.
"Honestly, I think that might be part of what set me off."
(A bit late but could I join?)
(Ooh, yeah! You're always welcome to join my rps! And this one is more or less left open unless I decide to close it later.)
(Yay! I'm a bit rusty but I'll try my best. I'm going to skim through to see what's going on, then I'll add my character)
(Okay, great! Template and some about the apocalypse is on the first page if you didn't see those already, and feel free to ask any questions!)
Bean nodded. “Finally, I can put those skills I learned from my dad to use!” she grinned as she ran off to get firewood. She was excited, she hadn’t cooked any meat in a while…Lilac moved herself and Mori close to Tohru as Luka snuggled up against himself, still asleep.
(I skimmed through, but can I get a brief description of what's happening at the moment?)
Mori rubbed at his teary eyes as he huddled up with Lilac and Tohru, still seeming pretty scared. He was too uneasy to be able to sleep like the others. Kas shifted closer to Luka, wanting more warmth. He was still shivering a bit where he lay on the cold, hardwood floor.
(Bean and Lis are going to start cooking the deer meat Lis and Kas found, Kas and Luka are asleep, Mori, Tohru, and Lilac are talking, and Levi, Earl, and Rachel are Kinda just doing their own things after Levi helped Tohru through his panic attack)
(We're currently hunkering down in an abandoned house and just gained two new members (Lis and Kas). We'll probably be getting on the move soon since we're on our way to the Florida Keys for more permanent shelter I believe)
“Hey, we’re gonna be okay…” Lilac hugged Mori again. She hated seeing how upset he was but she understood why he was upset in the first place. He was scared of losing Tohru. They all were. Luka smiled in his sleep as he cuddled close to Kas.
Mori whimpered softly, not seeming very reassured. "H-How do you know…?" He asked weakly, hiccuping and holding tighter to her.
Kas relaxed a bit when Luka moved closer to him, shivering less now that he had some extra warmth.
(Yup, they about summed it up. And yeah, it's Florida keys/east coast barrier islands. Either one works.)
"Because we're all so strong…just by being here, we've proven we can survive…" Lilac smiled softly. Luka smiled some more as he slept peacefully.
"Mori, we've got a lot of people now. We all want to survive, and we have a goal to get there. Between all of us, I think we'll be fine. We'll make up for each other's weaknesses."
That was sort of a lie. Last time Tohru had been in a large group, they all ended up dying. Every last one of them. Sure, they had been ill-prepared. Sure, Tohru had more than learned from their mistakes. But this was an apocalypse. The stakes were really high, and the consequences of mistakes really dire. His mistakes last night almost got people killed as it was.
Lis hummed to herself.
"Alright, I'll start making cuts of meat while you get that fire ready and start cooking," she said.
Thank the gods…. These are probably good, honest people, huh?
"B-But I'm useless…" Mori replied weakly, hiccuping a few times. "I'm… I-I'm just a little kid. I don't really have any exploitable skills or anything like that… I'm just dead weight."
"Don't say that! You're so much more than that…" Lilac hugged Mori again. "You're good at something…maybe you just haven't found it yet…" she muttered. Bean nodded as she started the fire. She was glad to be doing something other than gathering berries and nuts.
(Earl and Rachel: "Hunting is our thing tho-")
"It's not about having skills anyway. I don't know if you understand this yet, but it's important to protect everyone. Especially kids," Tohru replied, "Kids are hope for the future, and if we let them die and treat them like dead weight because they don't know how to do some things yet? Well… that's horrible. One day, you will have skills, and you will be more useful than you can imagine. But… god, I wish you could be allowed to learn and grow somewhere not like this."
(Lmao the more the merrier ig. Maybe they won't have to worry about food as much from here on out)
A few tears rolled down Mori's cheeks and he buried his face in Tohru's shoulder as he trembled. "B-But you don't need me…" He whispered. "I-I only cause problems… I'm just another mouth to feed in times that there isn't much food…"
Lilac went silent. How long had he been feeling like this? "Mori, you don't cause problems…" she tried to reassure him.
(How should I introduce her?)
(She can maybe come across the farmhouse as a place to settle for the night?)
