(Ahh sorry, this was marked as read and I forgot to answer)
"Yeah, we probably should eat," Tohru agreed, "It's still a little dark out, so we should have plenty of time before we hit the road."
He leaned up against the wall and stretched some, trying to wake himself up a little more and shake off the soreness thT had set into his limbs and back.
Mori nodded a bit and reluctantly got up off of Bean's lap. "Yeah… I'm hungry. I don't think I really ate much yesterday." He got to his feet and stretched, yawning.
Bean nodded. “Same here. I’ll get Lilac and Luka up while you guys figure out what we’re going to eat,” she said, getting up. She headed over to her siblings and got them up.
"I'll see if I can find any rations out here. Otherwise, we might have to gather food on our own," Tohru replied, "They had a pantry down there, let's hope it's not empty right now."
He pushed himself up off the floor, finding himself lightheaded. A dull, throbbing pain set in beneath his skull. He needed to take better care of himself… but food and water had been so hard to come by, and sleeping- sleeping was so difficult anymore. He couldn't get a good night's sleep in good conscience.
Tohru undid the deadbolt on the door and took his gun from its holster, just in case anything had gotten in. It was fortunately quiet and safe in the next room over. He'd expected as much, since he'd been on high alert almost all night, but it was always hard to be sure.
Mori decided to follow Tohru, keeping a few feet behind the man as he walked. He glanced around as he did so, seeming a bit nervous. His mouth was dry and he was a little woozy as well from not eating, but he didn't like to complain about that kind of thing. He just hoped that the pantry would have something edible in it that they could take with them.
Lilac and Luka rubbed their eyes as Bean followed Tohru and Mori. She figured it was best if all three of them look that way they could possibly find more stuff.
Tohru opened the pantry door. It was mostly dust and cobwebs, save a jar of peanut butter, two soup cans, and a can of tuna.
It wasn't great, but it was something.
"This should be enough to hold us over," Tohru sighed, "but we're probably going to have to get some more food on our own later."
Bean nodded. “Yeah….” she sighed, looking away. It definitely wasn’t much but it was the best they had.
Mori nodded and pulled a soup can off of the shelf he could reach. "I'm sure we'll find something. There's still animals and stuff we can catch, right?"
"Oh, yeah, that's what I've mainly been living off of," Tohru replied, "And to think I was considering going vegetarian before this shitshow…"
"Where's vegetarian?" Mori asked, confused. The use of 'going' made him think that vegetarian was a place. "Did it get overrun by the zombies?"
“No, kid. A vegetarian is someone who doesn’t eat meat,” Bean told him, trying to hold back laughter.
"Ohh… why not?" Mori asked, still seeming confused. "Isn't meat good for you?"
“Yeah, but that’s their decision if they don’t want to eat it,” Bean nodded, pulling Mori close.
"Oh," Tohru murmured, trying to think of how to explain it simply, "Well, it's not because it's bad for you. It's more because it's bad for the animals. Yknow, since they get killed. That's one reason people might not eat meat."
"Oh…" Mori was quiet for a moment, contemplating the new information. "But meat is good for us, and there's a lot of animals, right? If we don't eat the animals, then there's gonna be too many of them or something."
“Good point,” Bean nodded again. She was glad Mori didn’t focus too much on the killing part.
"Eating wild animals is definitely better," Tohru agreed, "And especially now, you gotta do what you gotta do to survive."
That wasn't really his reasoning, but it would've been a headache to explain to a seven-year-old.
"Hunting sure is a pain, though. I usually try to fish instead when I can."
(Tohru trying to explain the ethics of vegetarianism to a seven year old-)
"Yeah… I think I've fished before, but I don't have a fishing pole with me." Mori shrugged a bit and rested his head against Bean. "We should probably bring the food out so we can share with everybody else."
Bean nodded again. “Of course,” she smiled.
(Bump)
(Hello)
(Ahh shit, my bad)
(It’s ok)
(I'm getting breakfast, I'll reply when I get back)
(Oki doki)
Tohru let out a heavy sigh and took the food back to the room where everyone else was.
"Here, we found some things to eat," he said, "Take what you want."
Mori sat down on the ground and started quietly eating a bit, not wanting to eat too much since there was so little.
All the siblings nodded, grabbing their choices. Bean sighed. This was gonna be hard for everyone, for sure.
