Evanescent Mettle
"A few years? Long enough for them to trust me with a case. Out of curiosity, why do you care so much about knowing?"
"A few years? Long enough for them to trust me with a case. Out of curiosity, why do you care so much about knowing?"
"Eh, I like hearing about peoples pasts, especially when I don't know how their story will end… if that makes sense."
"I suppose. Hey, I don't want to pry, and if you don't want to talk about this that's fine, but who were the people who killed your sister?"
"If I answer with truthfully will you trust me more?"
"Is this a bargaining chip to you? Why do you want my trust so much?"
"Cause then you'll reveal more about your backstory, and also there is less of a chance that you'll arrest me but more importantly you said you wouldn't tell me because you don't trust me enough."
"Okay? Still a little concerned about why you care so much, but I guess I'd trust you a little more."
"Awesome! Well, you see, my parents failed to pay a loan to a big shot gang owner and when they died the loan fell on my sister's shoulders and when she couldn't pay they killed her and stole most of her stuff," I don't even know why I'm telling her this, I guess if I did end up getting arrested I would most likely get executed. I guess I just don't want my story to go unheard. I don't want to be forgotten.
"What gang?" I can see the town coming up.
"I don't really remember, called themselves league of silent knights… silent killers, I don't really know," I look up and see the town coming into view, we've been making surprisingly good time.
"Oh. Did you kill them all?" I suddenly look up. "Hey, what's this town called again?
"It's called Towe, and yeah as far as I know I did"
"Cool, cool." We walk for a moment more. "Uh, how about you go into the town and do the things you need to do, and I'll stay out here?"
I raise an eyebrow and stop, "Why are you going to stay out, did you steal from here or something?"
"No, I told you! I don't steal anymore. I just…certain…groups of people will not want to see me. It's fine. I'll be fine. It doesn't matter." I turn my Watch uniform inside out and put it on, covering my tattoo.
"This has something to do with your cool tattoo, doesn't it? Well never mind that for now, if you want to wait out here I can go and get you some other clothes, I know watch members aren't usually like much around these parts."
"Yes and no? I mean, the tattoo's definitely part of it, but it's mostly me? A disguise might work, but if anyone recognizes me, you should run."
"Alright, I can do that. If you wait out here I'll go get you some different clothes," I start walking in the direction of the town.
"Thank you. Wait do you want some money for it?"
"Oh, acutally yes, please," I jog back to Masalee.
I hand Willow some coins and a single rock.
"Wow, I love the rock, I'll keep it forever. By the way, I hope you don't mind if I leave Max with you. It might look weird if I have a corpse following me." I begin walking again.
"He'd better not try to bite my arm off again!" I shout at her retreating form. I share a contentious look with Max's empty eye sockets and climb up a tree. I consider dropping rocks down to mock him and prove my superiority, but he growls. I decide he already knows I'm a threat.
I turn back to see Masalee climbing a tree and dropping rocks at Max, which I frown at but my attention turns back to buying clothes. I enter the marketplace and begin looking for something that would fit her but considering I don't know her measurements it's a bit tricky. I decide to go with something a bit bigger then what she looks to be as that tends to be better and end up buying her a dark coat with a hood and a jacket to replace the Watch one. I smile to the shop owner, say thank you and start heading back to where I left them. I wonder why they don't want her here, it can't just be because she's n the Watch, can it? That just seems absurd.
I see Willow come back and I finger gun from the tree as I say "Hi! I wasn't terrorizing this eldritch horror down here!"
