"Okay, I don't have to come in if you don't want me too, but okay." Kyle offered him a small smile.
"Okay, I don't have to come in if you don't want me too, but okay." Kyle offered him a small smile.
“You can do what you want, I guess,” Marius told him, eyes flickering away. “Should we go?”
"Sure thing, lemme go get my shoes and keys." Kyle spoke before going to do as he said.
Marius nodded, taking a moment to locate his own shoes. He rubbed at his throbbing temples, wishing that he could forget about everything that had happened.
Well, most of it.
Kyle found his shoes quickly enough, pulling them on his feet quickly. He combed through his hair with his fingers before grabbing his keys, "Ready?"
"Ready," he affirmed, standing by while he waited for Kyle to open the door.
"Cool," Kyle unlocked the door and held it open for Marius.
They took the elevator down, both trying to fill the silence with bits and pieces of conversation that melted away before long. The ride was similar, it was almost as if they had exhausted their voices just earlier that morning. When they pulled up at Marius’s apartment complex, he got out of the car, turning back to Kyle. “You can come up, if you want.” He owed the man at less that..
Kyle shook his head a little, "If you don't want me to come up then I don't have to. It's your place, not mine."
The default answer flew out of his mouth before he could stop it. “It’s fine.”
"Marius, if you don't want me up there, I'll stay here." Even though he did want to know.
He wanted to nod, to thank Kyle, but he knew that he was just being ridiculous. He was making a big deal out of nothing. “Honestly, it’s fine,” he sighed, straightening his back.
Kyle still didn't look convinced, it was painfully obvious but he nodded slightly, "Okay, but I won't go further then the entrance."
Marius gave a shrug as if to say 'do what you want', masking his relief under a veil of casual nonchalance. The pair took the elevator up, exchanging few words, and when they'd arrived at his apartment, he hesitated with the key in the lock.
"Hey," Kyle gently guided the key into the lock, begin careful to be soft and cautious with his own movements, "I'm here, you're home."
That's the problem. I'm home. He'd said goodbye to the apartment before leaving for his classes– and his suicide note was set on the kitchen table. Unfreezing himself, Marius pushed open the door and entered.
Kyle followed shortly behind but didn't go further then the entrance, just like he said. He watched Marius for a moment before drawing his gaze to the floor.
Marius couldn’t bear to look around, to see the home he hadn’t been supposed to return to. He made straight for his bedroom and changed as quickly as possible, eyes glued to the floor.
Kyle leaned against a wall, thoughts in his thoughts as he waited patiently. Maybe a walk would be good for him to clear his head, too.
He made his way back to the front door, to Kyle, dressed in a fresh pair of jeans and a white t-shirt. “Let’s go.”
Kyle dragged himself out of his thoughts, putting on a small smile, "Hm? Oh yeah, after you."
They made their way back down to the car together, hardly speaking. Marius’s eyes darted from pedestrian to pedestrian, to the trees, the lampposts, even the pigeons.
The air was cool and the sun gave little warmth on the chilly morning, making Kyle wish he put some more layers on. He wanted to talk but didn't know what to say.
Eventually, he knew one of them would have to speak. And since Kyle didn't seem to have any idea about what to discuss, Marius was forced to speak up. "So.… breakfast was good. Thank you."
Kyle waved a hand idly, "Don't mention it. I'd do it again in a heartbeat."
