Nagai smiled at the younger girl. She wished she could do something for her, give her a better life, but she knew her father would be suspicious. There wouldn’t be a way without raising her father’s suspicion and possibly getting not just herself, but Lata as well, in trouble. The only thing she could do for the time being was help her with food, water, and other necessities.
^cough^ not for long ^cough^//
^cough^ you’re gonna get found out ^cough^//
Ahem, excuse me, there’s quite a bit of dust where I am.//
Noticing a sad look in the other's eyes, Lata took her hand and gave it a light squeeze. It's something her father used to do when worry came to be too much. It was a reminder that someone was there beside you through the troubles.
Nagai smiled and squeezed Lata’s hand back. She remembered something and happily wrote, My father’s gone all day today, so I can stay until tonight! Nagai grinned, If that’s ok with you, of course.
"Of course it is," Lata responded quickly. She still didn't understand as to why Nagai wanted to spend time here of all places. It was pure irony that all Lata ever wanted was to be set free from the slums.
"The only thing is that there really isn't much to do," the young mage said with a dry laugh.
Nagai shrugged, But we’ll be spending time together, and that’s what counts, right? Nagai grinned.
Returning the smile, Lata nodded. Remembering her ability, she turned to Nagai and said, "Think of an object. Anything."
Nagai thought for a moment, *A basket.” *she decided. Nagai watched, curious as to what was going to happen.
Lata seemed to pout slightly with the mundane item, but summoned her magic to her fingertips. To show off slightly, golden whisps made circling motions in and out of her fingers. Smirking, she cast an illusion of a simple woven basket.
Nagai looked at the illusion with awe, waving her hand through it. She grinned and wrote, That’s so cool! Can you try a more complicated thing like Nagai thought for a moment, a candelabra?
"A candle what now?" Lata asked, giving the other a bewildered look. She had no idea what a candelabra even was.
Nagai’s face grew warm, Sorry, I should’ve known you wouldn’t see one. They hold candles and look something like this: Nagai sketched a candelabra as best as she could.
Letting out a small hum, she gave her best attempt at creating a candelabra, despite never having seen one. The branches of the candlestick was oil black, holding 3 white candles.
"It turns out better if I've seen it in real life," Lata explains with a shrug.
Nagai nodded, It’s still really good! she reassured Lata. She wrote, What’s the most complex thing you’ve ever made?
(I had to think on it but I've got a sad answer)
Thinking about it for a moment, Lata went through every illusion she could think of. She usually used them to distract anyone attempting to follow her with simple things like a rock or a small object falling over. As for most complex however…
"My parents. When they died, my emotional state wasn't all that great. I couldn't stand knowing I was alone, so I made the illusion so it would feel as if they never left. It's been a few years so I've been able to recuperate since then."
Quickly shaking her head, she looked back up at Nagai and smiled.
"Now I have you."
……….//
WOW
THANKS FOR MAKING ME FEEL HAPPY
AND SAD
AT THE SAME TIME!!!!//
Nagai smiled and brought Lata into a hug. When they separated, Nagai looked the girl in the eye, smiling, and nodded her head, brushing away a stray lock of hair from Lata’s face.
My replies may be a bit short, I’m working on a thing :P//
Smiling back, Lata made the candelabra disappear. Laying down on the ground, she made the ceiling appear to be scattered with stars in the night sky. It was always calming to Lata for some reason.
Nagai lay next to Lata, looking at the ceiling. She admired the stars, amazed at how real they looked. Nagai realized something as she looked at the illusion of the sky and wrote, I haven’t shown you my power yet, would you like to see?
Lata nodded, interested in seeing her ability. She thought Nagai had lied about her ability to add to her disguise, but knowing she was being truthful made her excited to see someone else's power.
So, I can manipulate the elements, but right now I only have air and earth since I don’t think there’s any fire or water nearby. Just wait a second and I’ll show you. Nagai explained. She waited until the girl read the whole thing, then started.
She indicated Lata to go to the window as she jumped out. Sure she could manipulate it from inside, but it wouldn’t look as cool. Nagai did a few unnecessary and exaggerated hand motions, mostly just to amuse Lata, and finally just had the ground move into a pillar behind her.
Lata watched, greatly amused by how strong her ability seemed to be. It was surprising how tall Nagai could shift the earth. Giving the older girl a light applause, she swung her legs over the edge of the window, now seated on the sil.
Nagai smiled. She bowed, putting the earth back in place as she did. She walked over to Lata and decided to show the air part of her power as she did. She manipulated the air to twirl around Lata, making her hair float unnaturally. She giggled as she made the young girl’s hair into a unicorn horn. Bits and pieces flew out at times, but it was still funny.
At first, the breeze felt amazing as it passed through her already messy hair. Then after it was forced to twirl into a long 'horn' she gave a light glare towards Nagai as she tried to fix it into its usual down position.
