Mariko nodded and looked at the line of text appearing in her eye, bus coming from Umber street, merge onto left, blind spot on top, small compartment, hidden space. A blueprint of the bus popped up, showing that it was model 8X. Mariko grinned and walked towards the curb, counting down the seconds when she'd have to jump.
Micah followed Mariko, looking around when she stopped at the curb. "What are we waiting for?"
"A bus." ten seconds, nine seconds, eight seconds…. Mariko was supposed to jump when it hit zero seconds. "We need to jump. Marco! Phoebe! When I say jump on the bus, jump!"
"Are you kidding?!" Micah yelled. "You did just see me fall on my butt after going down Marco's ice slide right?! I can't jump on a freaking bus!"
"Hold my hand." Mariko extended her hand to Micah.
Micah sighed and took Mariko's hand. "Fine. Let's do this."
The bus was rounding the corner, and Mariko got ready, "Jump!" she launched herself off and hoped Micah was at least trying. Her feet landed on the top with a thump and so did his. The others jumped too and Mariko breathed a sigh of relief. She pulled at a hatch and it opened up and Mariko got in, the black space holding seats that were never used. She smiled triumphantly, "I was right!"
Micah followed Mariko's lead and jumped onto the bus. He watched in shock as she opened the hatch. "I…I just jumped on a bus. While it was moving…"
"In all fairness, I helped." Mariko shrugged and then popped out her cyborg eye and reached into a compartment in her hand, pulling out a small screwdriver and a canister of oil.
Micah smiled, pulling out his pocket knife. He went through the devices on it until he finally found the screwdriver. "For future reference, I have one already."
"You're not swayed by the removal of my eye?" Mariko opened the back with the screwdriver and started rewiring and oiling. She popped it back in and blinked a couple times to get the eye positioned correctly.
Micah shrugged. "Honestly with all the stuff that's happened today, I'm not surprised." He smiled. "I think it's cool. You know, the whole cyborg thing."
"I wish it actually was cool," Dove sighed and shifted in her seat.
"It is though! The fact that it attaches to your body and that it moves like it's a part of you…and the eye looks so real…and the arm can do so much stuff!" Micah looked down at the ground. "Sorry. I'm geeking out. I just think this stuff is really cool."
"Thanks." Mariko leaned back in her seat, "You might as well rest, we're gonna be in this bus for a while."
Micah nodded and relaxed his body, taking out the gears and wheels in his pocket. He began fidgeting with them as he tried to remember all the things that had happened in the past few hours. Wow, it was a lot.
Mariko considered sitting next to Micah, but decided against it. Her brain itched for conversation and she spent 3 minutes thinking of something clever to say to him before she blurted, "Nice socks."
Micah looked up from his hands and smiled politely. "Thanks. I like yours too."
Mariko blushed as she looked at her own socks that stretched to her thighs. "Th-thanks."
Micah nodded. "I…I have a question." He cleared his throat. "So…I don't want to ruin the mood or anything, but…you have three tallies…have the police caught you yet?"
"I'm supposed to be in a holding cell right now. In fact, in three hours, if I hadn't escaped, my time for death will have come." Mariko shivered.
Micah grimaced. "Sorry I asked." He awkwardly swung his legs back and forth.
