Rune looked wide-eyes at all the store lights and fashion being displayed in the window. She pointed to a mannequin display with wings attached to the back. Of course, the wings were only for show and not for sale, “I want that!” she chirped.
"Okay, just don't go spending all of my money"
He says handing Mercy a wadd of cash, not really trusting Rune with it.
Mercy was surprised by the amount of money Young-Jae handed her but nodded at him with a smile, understanding his reasons. ”Come on, Rune. Let's get you that outfit.” She reached her hand out for the dark-haired girl to take.
Rune clasped Mercy’s hand with her own, whispering and repeating wings, wings under her breath like an excited child. She had a bounce in her step while they walked towards the store.
(I’m not really great at doing multiple people in rps… Can either of you do the cashier?)
(I can!)
The cashier glanced up upon seeing the two new customers walk in. She saw the black haired girl eyeing the wings display and raised an eyebrow. She hoped they weren’t thinking of buying that. Then they would be sorely disappointed.
Rune reached up to touch the feathers, absolutely entranced by the reminder of having wings of her own.
(Thank you!!)
Mercy was actually a little nervous. It wasn't often that stores sold the window displays and not every store did that either. But for Rune’s sake, she would try. She approached the cashier with her friendliest smile, “Excuse me. Do you have this outfit available to purchase?”
The cashier looked tiredly from Mercy to Rune still fawning over the display outfit, “The outfit is. The wings are just for decoration; they’re not for sale.”
(You’re welcome! I don’t mind at all)
”I see. Thank you.” Mercy had been expecting that answer. Of course, the wings were decoration. Aside from Young-Jae, she hadn't seen any humans walking around with wings of any kind… Except once a year. She walked back to Rune with a thoughtful look. ”Rune, did you want these clothes or did you want the wings more?” She gestured to both items to show what she was saying.
Rune pet the feathers on the wings again, “Wings, wings, wings.” She looked between the wings, the cashier, and Mercy, “Can I have?”
“No,” the cashier sighed annoyedly.
”I’m sorry, Rune. We can't get you those wings. I can buy you this outfit if you want it.” Mercy gave a sad smile, her eyes turning a soft blue. ”I do have an idea to find you some different wings, but you have to understand something.” She lowered her voice, so the cashier couldn't overhear them, ”Even if we get you wings, you'll still be human. You can't fly on your own anymore.” She placed a comforting hand on the former ravens’ shoulder. ”I’m sorry.”
Rune listened with a slight tilt to her head. She blinked and looked to the side, eventually understanding what Mercy meant, “Oh…yes,” she sighed mournfully.
Mercy hated the fact that she had to have been the one to tell her that. But she couldn't coddle Rune too much. She would soften the blow, so to speak, as much as she could, unlike Young-Jae who she could see as being very blunt. ”I am very sorry Rune. Perhaps me and Young-Jae can take you flying with us sometimes.” She offered, hoping to cheer her up.
Rune breathed out through her mouth and looked off to the side. Her demeanor lifted, while still a bit somber, when she saw another outfit on a hanger that might actually be for sale. She walked over to black turtleneck sweater and felt the fabric between her fingers, “Oo…” she whispered.
She was a bit relieved when Rune moved on to a different piece of clothing. ”That’s very soft.” she smiled, feeling the texture with her friend. ”Are you ok with the sleeves?”
Mercy couldn't imagine what it was like to permanently stay in one form. In public, she stayed fairly human but… To lose any of her forms would be fairly similar to losing a limb.
Rune held onto the long sleeves, “Sleeves? These are sleeves?” She asked, looking back to Mercy with a smile of recognition of the word.
Mercy smiled brightly, ”Yes, that's right. You really are very smart.” she praised genuinely. She believed it wouldn't take Rune too much longer before she could fool any normal human with a conversation. Maybe we can stop at a bookstore for her later.
Rune beamed at the praise, having heard and understood every word of Mercy's sentence. "I am smart, yes, smart bird is smart," she cooed to herself and went on to feel some of the other fabrics on the clothing rack.
Mercy subtly checked to make sure that no one else heard Rune’s last statement. ”You’re getting much better at speaking clearly.” she encouraged. ”Letting others know what you want. So, how about you let me know if you find any clothes that you want? I don't really shop much.” She was somewhat doubtful Rune would understand her last confession but she should be able to handle the rest.
Rune cast a smile back to Mercy just before another outfit caught her attention, “Yes, I like it all.”
Mercy laughed a bit at Rune’s enthusiasm. ”Well, as rich as Young-Jae is I don't think he would like it if we spent all his money today.” Her eyes brightened to an almost light sky blue. ”Let’s see… Which do you like more; darker colors or brighter ones?” she asked holding a black shirt and a bright yellow one.
Rune squinted disapprovingly at the bright yellow shirt, “Ew… that’s not right.” She walked over to the black shirt and felt the sleeves to judge its fabric.
Where did she pick that up? Mercy tried not to laugh at Rune’s comment. ”I should have suspected… Considering your usual colors.” she nodded, referring to the black her feathers would have been. She placed down the bright shirt and began looking for darker tones.
Rune smiled, “Yes.” then dashed off to another aisle of darker colored jackets. She pulled one of them off of the hanger to try it on.
