Kenzie nodded, then wiped the tears from her eyes and looked back up at Hunter.
"I, um… I think, right now, I just– I need a hug…" she mumbled.
Kenzie nodded, then wiped the tears from her eyes and looked back up at Hunter.
"I, um… I think, right now, I just– I need a hug…" she mumbled.
Hunter stood up and walked towards Kenzie, grabbing her arm and pulling her into him.
"I'll give you whatever you need," Hunter murmured. "As long as it makes you happy."
Kenzie let out a shuddering breath and sank into Hunter's arms.
"Thanks," she whispered, wrapping her own arms around him.
"Don't mention it," Hunter kissed the top of her head softly.
After a while, Kenzie pulled back enough to look up at him. Her eyes were still sad, but they'd regained a bit of the life they'd lost earlier in the morning.
"Do you want to take me to that place, now?" she asked quietly. "I'm done eating."
"Right, I almost forgot," Hunter smiled. "You wanna change, or…?"
"Yes, I want to change," Kenzie replied, rolling her eyes. "I'm not going anywhere in this." She gestured to her sweatpants and t-shirt.
"Right, of course not," Hunter grinned. "I need to change, too."
Kenzie gave him a small smile back, then pulled out of his arms.
"Okay. So then let's change, and you can bring me wherever it is you want to take me?"
Hunter nodded, then walked back to his room to change. He settled for a button-up shirt and jeans and took a seat on the sofa in the living room, waiting for Kenzie.
Kenzie changed into a black tank top, jeans, and a gray-and-white striped sweatshirt then looked in the mirror. She cringed when she saw the marks on her neck. Those would have to be covered up, it would just be awkward to have them showing in public. She shook her head and grabbed her makeup, using it to cover them.
When she was satisfied with how she looked, she walked out to the living room, where she saw Hunter sitting on the sofa. She gave him a small, somewhat sad smile, and asked, "You ready?"

Hunter nodded and stood up.
"Yup," he responded. "Let's go."
He grabbed his keys and proceeded to walk towards the door.
Kenzie silently followed Hunter out the door and to his car. Her mind drifted from memory to memory of her mom. The days they'd spent just lounging around before she was married, the times they'd go shopping for absolutely no reason, her mom's wedding day when Kenzie had to work hard to hold back tears.
(She didn't want her mother to remarry?)
The car ride was quiet. Hunter tried to think of what to say and Kenzie just kept to herself. Hunter hoped the place he was going to would cheer up Kenzie, but he also knew that she had to stop running away from her problem.
"I know I keep repeating this," Hunter started. "But you really need to visit your father. Both of them."
(No, they were happy tears. And it wasn't actually remarrying, just marrying. Her mom wasn't married to her dad.)
Kenzie sighed, tearing her gaze from the window to look at Hunter.
"Jacob isn't my father. He just tried to be," she said, somewhat bitterly. She shook her head and looked back out the window before whispering, "But I know I have to see them."
(Bumping.)
(Hey, so I have my exams in like 3-4 days so I probably won’t be on till they’re over.)
(Oh, bummer. Okay.)

(I'm just making sure I don't lose track of where this is while you're gone.)
"He didn't treat you right?" Hunter questioned, his voice edgy. "Or did he try to replace your dad?"
(I'm just making sure I don't lose track of where this is while you're gone.)
(I'll pop in from time to time.)

(Yay!)
"He didn't treat you right?" Hunter questioned, his voice edgy. "Or did he try to replace your dad?"
"No, no. He just…" Kenzie trailed off with a sigh, shaking her head before turning back to look at Hunter. "He was fun, I'll admit that, and he made my mom happy. He could even make me laugh so hard, sometimes. It's just that… He was never my dad, just my stepfather. I was never able to call him 'dad'. It was just too weird…"
"Yeah, I understand," Hunter nodded, making a right turn. "What's your favorite flower, Kenzie?"
