"Hey! Rubes!" Emma called, waving her over. "We're going to head to the nearby cafe to talk. Want to come?"
"Hey! Rubes!" Emma called, waving her over. "We're going to head to the nearby cafe to talk. Want to come?"
“No, I can’t. I have extra credit work to do.” Ruby lied, it wasn’t a complete lie. She did have extra credit work, but she was already done.
"Let us know if you hear anything else!" Zack called after her. He whistled to Vix, and she ran off to go get Zack's hidden satchel.
He smiled to the group, suddenly cheerful, "So, Illeyitome is off the list, Zavoem is probably on the top of this. I've heard a whole lot of jabber from Zavoem adults as well."
"C'mon!" Aidan grinned at her, not following Zack and Emma yet. "Which sounds better: extra credit or putting information together and maybe stopping or starting another war?"
Flora walked up. "War?"
Aidan rolled his eyes at Flora. "No war. That's plan Z, if everything else fails."
"No, I mean, why would we need a war?"
"If we don't stop the war, then there will be a war. Pay attention."
“Haven’t you heard?” Aislinn said, turning. “It’s all anyone really talks about.”
"A bit."
Aidan followed Zack and Emma. "Did you guys find anything super important?"
"Nothing we don't already know, unfortunately," Zack answered. Vix came around the corner, a satchel in her mouth. Zack took it from her, reached inside and threw out a snack for her, which she caught in her teeth.
"How about you, Emma?"
"Well… I found this in one of the Zavoems' backpack. I saw a suspicious device poking out her bag, and…" Emma pulled out a strange copper device, glowing a subtle blue. "A magic amplifier. Even Illeyitome can't make these! Why else would the Zavoem have them if they didn't want to use it for war? Those are illegal!"
"That's defiantly suspicious."
“None of us even have the supplies to make that,” she said, horrified. “Are the adults hiding something?”
Emma nodded gravely. "I think so- no, I'm sure of it. You know how they always think that we're too young to know anything,"
“… I’m going to go then…” Ruby said, slowly walking towards the gate. She didn’t want to be caught up in this mess.
Aidan grabbed Ruby's arm before she left. "Nope. You're part of this too."
Flora said, "People in Kemad sometimes have those."
Emma's eyes widened. "What?! First off, that's illegal! Second, where did Zavoem and Kemad even get them from? The Ileyitome can't even make those yet- and believe me, we've tried. Don't tell anyone else,"
"Well, we just kinda derp around. So nobody cares."
"I'll let you know that in Yuqed…well we don't even mention them. I have no clue what they are." Aidan responded, shrugging. "What does it do?"
“Why… am I part of this?” Ruby asked, wriggling away from Aidan.
"Because you know what we're doing. We can't have any outsiders knowing our secrets." He stated, crossing his arms.
"Magic amplifiers are exactly what they sound like," Emma said gravely. "From the looks of this one, it looks like they used copper… Of course! Why didn't we think of that! Copper is the best material for channeling aether!" She pulled out her notebook and frantically began scribbling notes.
